Favourite reading spots

What is your favourite place to read?
These days I technically only have one favourite place to read: my bed! But over the years I’ve had several favourite reading spots: my big cosy chair (that really belonged to my doggo), at a cafe, and by the beach or our pool (I lived in Bali for close 7 years), to name a few. This prompt actually sent me on a trip down memory lane to look at some of the bookish photos that I used to take back when I was very active on bookstagram in 19/20 so I thought I’d also take the chance to share some of these photos here!

I read at home most often (again: my bed!) and I prefer silence but I also read on the train to work every morning and some evenings if I don’t go home with my colleagues. I also like to occasionally eat out or go to cafes alone and of course, I have a book in hand when I do! I tend to get distracted very easily from my reading if I’m with others but that doesn’t include strangers! I’ve become very used to my own company in the past few years and so I’ve gotten quite good at ignoring strangers when I’m out doing my own thing. I’m still aware of my surroundings and I do get distracted by loud noises sometimes, but it’s very easy to focus on my own thing!
However, if I’m sitting with someone I know, even if they’re doing their own thing, I tend to get distracted by what they’re doing and find myself reading less. Also because we inevitably end up talking, unless whoever I’m with is also reading! 😂
Do you enjoy books more when reading in certain places or environments?
I feel I do enjoy books more when I’m in my own space/comfort zone without the distraction or buzzing of other noises and people around me. I find that being alone while reading allows me to really get absorbed in the story and not get pulled out of it at random. A quiet place is it for me!

I prefer silence and being alone, too. I get distracted too easily otherwise. Lol. My big comfy recliner in my library is currently my favorite place to read.

I’m tempted to bring back the big cosy chair into my room but there’s so little room as it is. I can see why it’d be your fave reading place! 😍

I also prefer silence for reading and find it hard to read when I’m with people I know – it just feels more natural to engage in conversation! I do love reading in cafes and parks but often get distracted by conversations around me (i love to eavesdrop lol) so my favorite reading spot is also my bed and my couch haha

Haha, mood. I won’t lie and say I don’t get distracted by people’s conversations but I’ve gotten really good at tuning the nonsense out these days 🤣 I think it’s a product of spending ample time with myself, lol. And thank you! It makes me miss taking book photos but then I remember how much time and effort it took (and how much that took over my life) and I’m okay with just admiring how I used to it, haha

I suffer from insomnia, so I only allow myself to sleep in bed, but I have a great chair near the window that I read in. I am like you, I like quiet when I am reading….I like quiet in general.

I suffer from insomnia too but never even considered how reading in bed would affect that! 🤔 Now you’re making me wonder if I should reconsider doing this, lol.

I tend to only read either at work on my lunch break or at home before I go to bed, but I think at home in bed is my favourite place to read. Nobody’s trying to talk to me or moving around while I’m trying to read when I’m at home 😂

Ooh I love this post, Although I must admit my bed is my least favourite place to read! 90% of the time I’ll be snuggled up on the couch or my favourite reading chair in the living room, but my favourite place would probably be to treat myself and head to a cafe or bar for a coffee or cocktail and enjoy some me time with my current read 😀 xo

I used to love reading in bed but not as much since I moved into my current apartment. Now I have a lovely living room that is more atmospheric for reading than my bedroom. I was able to finally have space for my dream red armchair and that is now my favourite place to read 🙂
