We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent your time reading in bed or wish you had time to read today.

I’ve got three reads on at the minute but I think I’ll be spending the rest of my Sunday night in bed with Lady Derring Takes A Lover by Julie Anne Long. I’ve been meaning to read JAL’s books for a while now and am excited to read more. I’m only at 16% but am enjoying it so far!
What book are you spending your Sunday in bed with?

I was sick for the first two days of the week but the rest of it has been relatively quiet with people starting to go on holiday. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quiet in the house with my older dog. He’s turning 15 in January and his cognitive activity has slowly declined this past year. While I don’t think it’s to the point where his QoL has deteriorated drastically, this week has been tough because the person who he has spent most of his days with for the past year has gone and will only be back in January. It’s tough because he rarely comes up to the third floor anymore as his legs can’t make it and I’m not always around downstairs. We’ve got him some calming vitamins and that has really helped but he still gets confused, anxious and can’t sleep at night. His few “episodes” have triggered my anxiety so badly that I haven’t been sleeping well since Wednesday. I still feel that ball of anxiety lodged deep in my gut and I’ve been thinking non-stop about his life and our life and it’s making me question if I’m being selfish or jumping too far and it’s just making me a bit sad is all. 😔 It’s hard to see your loves get older especially when you don’t know what the right move is next…
I’m keeping this here for a while in case more people decide to migrate over to Bluesky. If you want to find me there I’m dinipandareads.bsky.social! 💜

I’ve been putting it off but I finally started organizing the reading challenges I want to participate in next year. I’ve got my spreadsheet ready for my Popsugar Challenge options and I’m proud for having identified all books on my backlist/ARCs. I’ve got my Owlcrate reading plans down and I’ve already got the sheets ready for my usual Year in Aeldia and Buzzwordathon challenges. I’m still contemplating whether to do the 12 Book Challenge or the 25 by 25 one but let’s see!
ICYMI here’s what I posted this week:
- Let’s Talk Bookish: Buying too many books?
- Blog Tour Review: A Cruel Thirst by Angela Montoya
- #WWWWednesday: 11 December 2024
- #TopTenTuesday: Cosy or Atmospheric?
- Mini Book Review: Rookie Mistake by Maren Moore

I really hope you’re all doing okay and treating yourself with care. Let’s have a great week ahead! 💜

We’ve been fighting off illness around here, too. Sooo sorry about your doggie! I hope the calming vitamins will work to make him comfortable.

Oh no, I hope everyone’s able to fight off being ill and recover quickly! The vitamins definitely help but he still has moments of confusion. It’s very sad. I love him so much 🥺

I hope those vitamins help your dog 😦
I would be really curious to see your spreadsheets and planning for those challenges! I want to join more reading challenges this year and not only the yearly ones, but there are some months or prompts that I am struggling with. It’s still fun though.
Wasn’t the Popsugar challenge difficult? I found some prompts a bit tricky.

The vitamins have helped a lot and I’m glad for it but he does still struggle some nights. I guess that’s what happens when they get older 😦
I’ve created a really simple spreadsheet with the prompt and five book options that I can choose from depending on my mood. 🤭 If you have Goodreads, there are lists made for the challenge that give book options which I found really helpful when making my spreadsheet because I found quite a few titles that are already on my TBR. Popsugar is definitely hard and even though I’ve only attempted it once, I didn’t complete it. I don’t know if it’ll happen this year cos there are some prompts that I’m not really keen on (like the running club or the AI prompt) but let’s see. I mean, I just want to have fun with it and make it as easy for myself as possible so I’m also not going to hold back on doubling or even tripling up on reads (if I’m really struggling)!

Hoping for the best! It’s so sad when they get older.
I keep checking everywhere, yes, because I do not want to add random books. I want to join some challenges for the challenge itself but also to make it more fun and interesting. Plus hopefully it will help me interact more with other participants (I like checking other’s posts). There are some challenges, like the A to Z one, where I do not mind as much if I do not complete them, because I will not read a book just to have something for Z, for example, but I try making an effort and thinking about this when making my TBRs. We’ll see how it goes.

So sorry to hear it was a tough week. It is so hard seeing ANYONE you love get old in that way. ((HUGS))

I’m sorry to see that about your dog. Watching loved ones slowly decline is so hard, let’s included! 🫂

It is really hard to see the decline and not know how to make it better. One of the hardest things to see! I raised him like my little baby and now seeing him get all old is just kinda heartbreaking even though I know it’s natural. 🫂
