Hello, friends! It’s been a minute since I found a book tag that I felt like doing so I was pretty excited when Leslie @Books are the New Black tagged me to do the Reading Firsts: 2024 Edition Book Tag! If you haven’t yet discovered her blog, go check it out because it’s great and she is a wonderful human being. 🌻 I’m excited to dive into this one cos it’s not one I’ve done or seen before so let’s get to it!
This tag was created by Tanya Patrice @Girlxoxo.
First book read in 2024
Sheets
I’ve had this graphic novel on my TBR for a while now and I thought it’d be some kind of cute read but I was wrong. This was a tearjerker! It was a very sad but beautifully told story.
First review of 2024
Dark Star Burning, Ash Falls White
This was the first review I posted in 2024 and it was for a blog tour. I thought this was a very satisfying conclusion to this duology!
First debut read in 2024
To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods
I’m really sad about this one because it was not only one of my most anticipated reads of 2024 but also one of my most anticipated debuts! This didn’t work for me at all. 🥺
First new-to-me author of 2024
Emily St. John Mandel
I’d heard a lot of good things about this author and although I have all of her books on my TBR, I hadn’t read any of them until Sea of Tranquility. It was wonderful and I can’t wait to read more by this author soon!
First book of 2024 that slayed me
More Happy Than Not
This book… I don’t even know how to talk about this book. It just absolutely wrecked me. I was a mess and it left me with a wee book hangover! I’ve read a few of Silvera’s books but this one is one of his best.
First book of 2024 that I wish I could get back the time I spent reading it
Dragonpearl
This was another huge disappointment for me. It’s an MG fantasy that I’ve had on my TBR for a while and I was so excited to read about Korean mythology in space! Sadly, this one bored me a great deal. I’m still sad about it!
First five star book of 2024
Night Hawk
I’m cheating a bit here cos technically Sea of Tranquility was my first 5-star read but I want to show off more great books I read this year so I’m sharing my second 5-star read. This was also my first Bev Jenkins, who has quickly become a favourite author. If you love historical romance, I’d highly recommend checking her out!
I’m tagging: Chris | Yolanda | Celeste | YOU!
And that’s it for the Reading Firsts 2024 Edition book tag, friends! I’d love to know your answers to this one too 😍 I hope you had some great 2024 firsts and that the rest of your reading your is fantastic!
More Happy Than Not is one I remember well simply because of how it ended. Glad you enjoyed it.

Ooh, yeah. The ending in the original is a rough one. This copy that I have has an alternate ending and… It soothes the soul a little but yeah, still very rough! 🫣

Oh really? I guess I should check that out. It’s been so long though. It might not do much for me at this point.

OK, maybe alternate ending is the wrong word for it. More like, extended ending! I don’t know if it would hit the same if the book isn’t still as fresh in your mind although if the conclusion stuck with you all these years, you might still enjoy the extension! 🙂

This is a lot of fun! I haven’t read Dragonpearl yet, but I’ve been looking forward to it, too. However, I’ve seen multiple mixed reviews, so I’m not sure when I’ll actually get around to reading it, now.

I was so excited about Dragonpearl and I was so sorely disappointed when I finally read it. I think it was mostly the writing style that didn’t work for me, which is a bummer. I hope you do enjoy it if/when you get around to picking it up 🙂

Oh, writing style can be a hard thing to get past with a book. But, writing style is also very personal, so maybe I’ll still enjoy it after all.

Yes, that’s true! And I hope you do enjoy it whenever you get around to it 🙂 Happy reading!

Sheets looks so cute! Maybe I need to read it to get out of my reading slump lol. Great post!

I would say that in this case looks can be quite deceiving. Without spoilers, I will say this isn’t the “cute/happy” read that I thought we’d get 🤣 But still a great read all the same! Graphic novels are great for helping to get out of a reading slump. I hope it works for you, Yolanda!

I read Sheets a few years ago, and yes, it was not what I expected either. I did this tag, but it was linked to the original one and it had a few different questions one it, but I think I like this version. Great answers, Dini.

Loved seeing your answers for this Tag! ❤️ I’ve been meaning to read a Emily St. John Mandel book as well. I’m thinking of starting with Station Eleven as I’ve heard so much about it 😄
