The Magical Readathon: Orilium Spring Equinox 2024

Get excited—it’s almost time to return to the Orilium Academy for ✨The Magical Readathon: Orilium Spring Equinox 2024!✨

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, our lovely host G @Book Roast created this Beginners Guide to the Magical Readathon, just in case you’re interested in starting your own journey to Orilium!

As someone who’s generally terrible at completing reading challenges, this is one challenge I join without hesitation every year because not only is it very fun but it’s also very relaxed and low-key, which means less pressure and as a notorious mood reader, this makes it easy for me to keep up!

CHARACTER BACKGROUND

Guild Tier Status: Exhaulted (360 pts)

  • Name: Meeska Shonara
  • Guild: House of the Arcane
  • Calling: Illusionist Rogue
  • Status: Adept
  • Background: Urban
  • Province: Kerador
  • Heritage: Earthling (Fire)
  • Conduit: Staff
  • Legacy: Pocket Dimension

Following two years of study at Orilium, Meeska is now an Illusionist Rogue Apprentice. Although they’re two years out from becoming an Illusionist Rogue Master, they’ve decided to pursue a different calling this year: Mage Hunter. They feel their Illusionist Rogue capabilities complement being a Mage Hunter as they can use a myriad of illusions and disguises to assist in capturing the baddies.

Orilium Spring Equinox 2024 Prompts + Possibility Pile

Now that Meeska is embarking on a new scholarly journey to become a Mage Hunter, they need to take four classes this Spring semester: Elemental Studies, Spells & Incantations, Conjuration and Restoration. As always, as an epic mood reader, possibility piles are the way to go for maximum flexibility, lol.

ELEMENTAL STUDIES: Call Lightning — Source of light on cover

SPELLS & INCANTATIONS: Spell: Quick Count — Random number generator title length

I used the Google random number generator and got the number 17. This took a whole lot of frustrating searching and counting (and re-counting) but I managed to find five options! Through this exercise, I’ve come to realise that a lot of my books are 15-16 letters long!

CONJURATION: Blinding Prism — Colour Wheel

I spun the colour wheel and landed on Orange!

RESTORATION: Regaining Consciousness — Book you think could cure slumps

Well, this is a great but tough prompt because I’ve been struggling to fight off a slump-ish feeling ever since getting back from my holiday. These options will be very specific to me, obviously… BUT if anyone has any recs from personal experience, I’d love to know, please and thank you! 😍

In addition to following the syllabus, Meeska is also going to be participating in the Lore side quest line, which opens on 1 April. It sounds really fun and apparently, will involve more than reading (such as posting on socials), it should be a cool challenge!

And that’s it for the Orilium Spring Equinox 2024! These are all pretty interesting prompts, especially the number generator one, and I’m excited for Meeska’s new journey as a Mage Hunter Novice. 😍 Anyone else joining the Magical Readathon this year? Is your character changing callings or pursuing the Master status?

    • Thanks, Caro! I hope you have an amazing Spring Equinox 😍 I thought it’d be fun to shake things up with a new calling this year but who knows if I may regret that decision after the Autumn Equinox, haha. Maybe I’ll go back to my previous calling next year to keep my character on their toes! 😂 i can’t wait to read Bookshops & Bonedust so I’m glad to hear you really liked it! Happy reading 💖

  2. I need to sit down and figure out what my character will do this term. I plan to look through the callings again to see if something new looks fun and fits Padwin’s interests. I love the character art! It looks so great. I’ve always wanted art of my character, too, but I suck at art and am too cheap to commission it. Lol.

    • I thought it’d be fun to shake things up but maybe I’ll change my mind after this year ends and go back to reaching for that ‘Adept’ status in my previous calling. I hope you find something good and fun though! 😃 Also, this character art was made by one of those pfp art generator things that were popular before AI generators came around)—I took inspiration from Joanna who made her character’s art through this too! I can try to find the name for you if you want! 😃

  3. Yay, I’m so excited for magical readathon!!! I’m so confused on the levels. I went to the discord and it seemed like we would be working towards adept at the end of this year?! So adept in training and we would be working towards master next year?! But idk how we would start as novice and finish as one the first year. Ahhhhh. Haha. Anyways, there’s so many books I want to read on here!! 😍

    • Honestly, I’m probably mistaken about what level I’m on and you’re likely right so that means I’m still not an adept. 😂 I was honestly very unsure about how I was counting it but what you said makes absolute sense, so I’m going to change it, HAHA! I hope we have fun this semester in Orilium!

      • LOL! I kept finding so many conflicting things so who knows which one of us is right! haha. I think it’s going to be a fun one. I have a lot of fun books on my list, besides First Binding, which is huge. haha

    • Thanks, Sophie! This readathon is my favourite and I look forward to it every year! Haha, I think the reason why I’ve been putting off reading Lily and the Octopus for so long is cos I know it’s gonna send me through the emotional wringer. I think I’m almost ready for it, lol 😂

  4. Good Luck with this Readathon, Dini. Do you read just one from each prompt, or try to read them all? Your choices all look like good stories, at least based on the covers, which I love.
