#WWWWednesday: 7 February 2024

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to finish twelve books. 😅 I didn’t know I read so much but I guess that’s what happens when you’re WFH and recovering from a procedure! None of these were particularly long, except for MQ’s book, four of them were also part of a romance novella series on KU that you probably have been seeing mentioned everywhere lately, plus a graphic novel and a kid’s book!

(ARC) Opium and Absinthe by Lydia Kang ★★★½
This was a backlist ARC that I’m glad I finally read. Check out my review.

(ARC) The Summer Playbook (Central State Football #2) by Jaqueline Snowe ★★★★☆
This was a ray of summer sunshine and I adored it! Check out my review.

(ARC) The Reason I Married Him by Meghan Quinn ★★★★☆
It’s been a hot minute since I read MQ but she’s always a good time and her OTT romances never fail to make me laugh. This was a great slow burn! My review is up tomorrow.

(ARC) If the Duke Dares (Rogue Rules #1) by Darcy Burke ★★★☆☆
I’m so glad that this ended up being better than I thought it would be, especially after what felt to me like a rocky start! I’m curious enough about the fantastically grumpy and stoic hero of the next book in this series to want to know who he ends up with so I’ll continue it.

Drewdrop by K. O’Neil ★★★★
This kid’s book is so adorable and beautifully illustrated. No surprise cos it’s by O’Neil. I would buy it for all my friends who have kids! 😍

Delicates (Sheets #2) by Brenna Thummler ★★★★
This HIT! Thummler has a wonderful ability to take sad, heavy, heartbreaking moments in life and turn them into powerful stories of overcoming and hope.

Dragon Pearl (Thousand Worlds #1) by Yoon Ha Lee ★★½
I was so looking forward to this MG fantasy but this didn’t work for me and I was disappointed by how disconnected I felt the whole time. 🥺

Destiny’s Captive (Destiny #3) by Beverly Jenkins ★★★½
This probably has one the most unique and now one of my favourite romance meetings ever! Even though this didn’t end up being my favourite in the series, reading Bev Jenkins’ romances is never a bad time and I still thoroughly enjoyed myself!

The Exception to the Rule (The Improbable Meet-Cute #1) by Christina Lauren ★★★★★
My hopeless romantic heart happily beat its way out of my chest for these T & C! 😍

Worst Wingman Ever (The Improbable Meet-Cute #2) by Abby Jimenez ★★★★★
This story made me laugh, made me sad, and made me squeal with heart-flattering delight! 🥹

Rosie and the Dreamboat (The Improbable Meet-Cute #3) by Sally Thorne ★★★☆☆
Hmm… so, this was kinda traumatic? Rosie’s experience with the pod is literally my worst nightmare and I felt the “comedic” aspect was a bit forced. I did enjoy the ending though!

Drop, Cover, and Hold On (The Improbable Meet-Cute #4) by Jasmine Guillory ★★★☆☆
This didn’t entirely work for me because I didn’t click with their chemistry & found the writing repetitive.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries ⇢ 53%

This is a buddy read with Leslie, Ali, and Julie who are reading it for the first time. It’s a re-read for me but I’m enjoying it so much more this time around on account of me not drowning in stress and anxiety. 😂 Bambleby and Emily are everything but I totally forgot how scary the fae in this book can be, lol.

February is Black History Month in the US and even though I don’t live there, I want to try and read more of the Black authors that are on my TBR cos there are plenty of them. I’m excited for these! 😍

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

  1. That Improbable Meet Cute series looks and sounds adorable. Just added it to my TBR. I hadn’t anything really cute and romantic to read this month, so this is perfect and I can read them in between some of my longer books. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. Happy Reading!
