#TopTenTuesday: Book I said I’d read in 2023 but didn’t…

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books I Meant to Read in 2023 but Didn’t Get To.

As a mood reader, it’s absolutely no surprise that I said I would read a whole buncha books and then never got around to reading them. I’m not saying that the books never get read whenever my brain says “read this now” but more often than not, if I don’t catch the mood on time, the book gets passed over until whenever the mood strikes again. Can anyone else relate? 😂 Anyway, here are the ten books that I was sure would get read in 2023 but I never got around to reading.

One Dark Window
Before I Let Go
Act Your Age, Eve Brown
All My Rage
Lessons in Chemistry

The Marvellers
The Heart Principle
A Brush with Love
Educated: A Memoir
Furiously Happy

Do you always read the books you set yourself to read every year or are you more of a mood reader like me? Have you read any of these or are they still on your TBR too?

  1. “I’m not saying that the books never get read whenever my brain says “read this now” but more often than not, if I don’t catch the mood on time, the book gets passed over until whenever the mood strikes again” lmao DINI I RELATE SO HARD TO THIS. IT’S LIKE IF I DONT PICK UP THE BOOK AT THE EXACT TIME MY BRAIN WANTS ME TO, IT GETS BORED AND MOVES ON TO THE NEXT BOOK. IT’S SO MEAN OK. but also would high five you on all my rage and educated i’ve been meaning to read them both since 2022 or something (so like youre definitely better off)

    • HAHAHA I love that I have really found my people here through this book community 💜 I mean, we don’t even have to explain ourselves, people just GET IT and I LOVE IT! I’m pretty sure I had those books on my TBR from the moment they came out so Educated has been sitting pretty on the shelf for a miserably long time 😂 I hope we both enjoy them whenever we read these books though, Anoushka!

  2. Honestly, I think I jinx myself whenever I set myself an actual TBR for year because guaranteed I don’t actually read those books haha. The only one of these I’ve read is Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert which was so bloody good!! If you’re in the mood for a good laugh, definitely pick that one. I literally had cramps in my belly from laughing so much.

    • LOL as a total mood reader I can absolutely relate. I love setting lists and thinking up of lists to tackle but it never happens. Possibility piles work better for me—less pressure that way, haha! I love Hibbert and the Brown Sisters series so I’m not sure why I still haven’t read Eve’s book but I hope 2024 will be the year for it! 😍

    • Oh wow, that’s wild! I can imagine that would’ve made a difference in your reading experience too! I can also imagine that the holds on Lessons in Chemistry must be very long cos it’s such a popular book and then there’s also the TV show which probably made it even more popular?! I hope it comes through this year though 😃

  3. A Brush with Love was fun! I bet you will like that one. The Heart Principle reads more like women’s fiction than romance. I went in knowing that and it helped a lot compared to experiences some other readers had.

    • I think I will like it considering how much I loved Lizzie Blake! 😍 I have heard that a lot about Heart Principle but I’m still looking forward to it, I think. Still a little sad knowing Quan didn’t get that full on romance like the other two did but still, some Quan is better than no Quan!? 😂

  4. One Dark Window, Furiously Happy, and Lessons in Chemistry are ones that I enjoyed! All My Rage is one that I pre-ordered and have yet to read it. haha! I hope you get to all of these and you enjoy them when you do!! Have a wonderful week, Dini! ❤

    • I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I mean, I’ve loved the first two books in the series and I adore Hibbert’s writing so this should be a win for me, right?! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Lessons and Brush with Love! I can’t wait to pick both up 🙂

    • I heard it was great and hilarious! I was so eager to get my hands on a copy and then of course when I finally do I don’t get around to it 😂 I hope I get to The Marvellers this year! It looks so good and its been a minute since I read a MG fantasy so I hope we both love it!

  5. I’m with you there, Dini. I have so many books I wanted to read in 2023. but then read other books instead. I will never get to all the books, but I have good intentions. When you do read these, I hope you enjoy them all.

    • I read a couple of chapters and while I remember it being sad and disheartening reading about their situation, it also wasn’t hard for me to put it down and not come back to it (yet)! I hope I end up enjoying it though 🙂
