We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Books I Meant to Read in 2023 but Didn’t Get To.
As a mood reader, it’s absolutely no surprise that I said I would read a whole buncha books and then never got around to reading them. I’m not saying that the books never get read whenever my brain says “read this now” but more often than not, if I don’t catch the mood on time, the book gets passed over until whenever the mood strikes again. Can anyone else relate? 😂 Anyway, here are the ten books that I was sure would get read in 2023 but I never got around to reading.
One Dark Window
Before I Let Go
Act Your Age, Eve Brown
All My Rage
Lessons in Chemistry
The Marvellers
The Heart Principle
A Brush with Love
Educated: A Memoir
Furiously Happy
Do you always read the books you set yourself to read every year or are you more of a mood reader like me? Have you read any of these or are they still on your TBR too?
Lessons in chemistry was a nice one. I almost finished the audiobook in a single sitting too.. I hope you like it ..!!!

I’ve heard a lot of good things and some mixed things too. But I’m looking forward to picking it up 😃 I also got the audiobook to go with my physical copy cos I feel like the reading experience will be better/more impactful that way!

Yes.. Lessons in chemistry was nice in audio, but these days I feel like I enjoy everything in the format 😂😂

Fair enough! I’m excited about it cos I heard the narrator was really good 😍 Can’t wait to read it!

Ohh ya she was definitely very good.. kept me hooked throughout and brought out the main character’s quirks very well.

“I’m not saying that the books never get read whenever my brain says “read this now” but more often than not, if I don’t catch the mood on time, the book gets passed over until whenever the mood strikes again” lmao DINI I RELATE SO HARD TO THIS. IT’S LIKE IF I DONT PICK UP THE BOOK AT THE EXACT TIME MY BRAIN WANTS ME TO, IT GETS BORED AND MOVES ON TO THE NEXT BOOK. IT’S SO MEAN OK. but also would high five you on all my rage and educated i’ve been meaning to read them both since 2022 or something (so like youre definitely better off)

HAHAHA I love that I have really found my people here through this book community 💜 I mean, we don’t even have to explain ourselves, people just GET IT and I LOVE IT! I’m pretty sure I had those books on my TBR from the moment they came out so Educated has been sitting pretty on the shelf for a miserably long time 😂 I hope we both enjoy them whenever we read these books though, Anoushka!

Honestly, I think I jinx myself whenever I set myself an actual TBR for year because guaranteed I don’t actually read those books haha. The only one of these I’ve read is Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert which was so bloody good!! If you’re in the mood for a good laugh, definitely pick that one. I literally had cramps in my belly from laughing so much.

LOL as a total mood reader I can absolutely relate. I love setting lists and thinking up of lists to tackle but it never happens. Possibility piles work better for me—less pressure that way, haha! I love Hibbert and the Brown Sisters series so I’m not sure why I still haven’t read Eve’s book but I hope 2024 will be the year for it! 😍

Aw, I loved FURIOUSLY HAPPY and EDUCATED was so good. I grew up about 20 miles south of where Tara Westover grew up. Crazy, huh? I meant to read LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY last year too, but my hold still hasn’t come through, lol. Maybe this year. Ha!

Oh wow, that’s wild! I can imagine that would’ve made a difference in your reading experience too! I can also imagine that the holds on Lessons in Chemistry must be very long cos it’s such a popular book and then there’s also the TV show which probably made it even more popular?! I hope it comes through this year though 😃

I loved One Dark Window! I hope you enjoy that duology when the mood hits you to pick it up. 🙂

Ooh, is it a duology? Not sure why I thought it’d be like a trilogy or something but this makes me keen to get started on it sooner rather than later! I’m a fan of duologies these days 😂

Yeah. It’s a duology. I really like duologies, too. It gives a little more time with the characters without becoming unwieldy.

Ooh, I totally forgot that there was a show! I haven’t heard much about it but I’m glad to hear you loved it 😃 Is it already over or is there another season? I hope you enjoy Lessons whenever or if ever you get around to it!

I think it’s just the one season! I would definitely recommend it 🙂

I can also relate, I feel like if I miss the right mood it’s so difficult to pick up some books 🙈 I hope you enjoy Act Your Age, Eve Brown, it’s my favorite of the Brown Sisters books 🥰

I relate to the struggles (and joys!) of being a mood reader 😀 I also still want to read One Dark Window, Lessons in Chemistry and The Heart Principle. Hope you’ll love all of these!

I hope you’ll love all of them too, Lindsey!

A Brush with Love was fun! I bet you will like that one. The Heart Principle reads more like women’s fiction than romance. I went in knowing that and it helped a lot compared to experiences some other readers had.

I think I will like it considering how much I loved Lizzie Blake! 😍 I have heard that a lot about Heart Principle but I’m still looking forward to it, I think. Still a little sad knowing Quan didn’t get that full on romance like the other two did but still, some Quan is better than no Quan!? 😂

Yep! And I hate that people tore Huang down after and she hasn’t released anything since. It makes me sad because it was still a good book.

Oof yes as a mood reader, it’s definitely hard because one moment you’re interested in A and then the next you’re interested in B 😅 I’ve heard so many great things about One Dark Window!

Although I’m usually a list person, I definitely think there are lots of books that just need the right mood to hit properly. And, for those, it’s better to wait it out.

I totally agree although sometimes I wish that my moods were a little less erratic and would give me more time to actually pick up a book before moving on to the next one 😂

One Dark Window, Furiously Happy, and Lessons in Chemistry are ones that I enjoyed! All My Rage is one that I pre-ordered and have yet to read it. haha! I hope you get to all of these and you enjoy them when you do!! Have a wonderful week, Dini! ❤
