#WWWWednesday: 24 May 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I managed to finish reading three books. I finished off this series that I didn’t particularly enjoy but I wanted to figure out if this author was for me or not—I think the answer still isn’t super clear but it’s leaning more towards “not”.

[KU] Bellamy Creek Series #2-4 by Melanie Harlow ★★★☆☆
So, for some reason I ended up reading the whole Cherry Tree Harbor series and… I have really mixed feelings. I think I wanted to see if Harlow was another new author to add to my faves list but I don’t think so. While her writing is easy fare, I didn’t vibe with the way certian issues were handled and particularly how the MMCs were portrayed. A mini-series review will be coming soon!

  • The Assassin and the Libertine10% → I haven’t made much progress. My brain is just not in it!
  • The Burning God31% → Woof, this book is tough. It’s like three times as dark and gruesome as the previous books and it’s heavy. That’s not to say I’m not interested to see where it’s going but I think we’ll take our time finding out cos reading this takes a lot out of a body, lol. 😂

The magic of ✨mood reading✨ means it could be any of these.

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I only read the first two books in the Bellamy Creek series. I don’t think I liked that one enough to continue it. I did love her Cloverleigh Farms series. I will admit that she’s not an auto-buy author for me. I have had mixed results with her books at times, so I don’t blame you for not putting her on your favorites list either.

    • Yeah, I don’t blame you, Deanna. I really don’t know why I continued—maybe cos I was hoping that they’d get better and I wasn’t sure what else I as in the mood to read at the time—all I knew was that I wanted something “lighter”. I think before I dive into her Cloverleigh series I’ll take a break from her for now. Lowkey kinda disappointed that I didn’t love her books more cos I’ve heard a lot of good things about her romances. Ah well, can’t win them all! Lol

  2. So I’m curious: what would be the corresponding mood that would make you read each of those books? 😁 Like if you read the first one it’s because you were wanting something that felt…? And so on 😊

    • I gotta be honest, I think the reason I ended up picking up and sticking to the books in the series is because I didn’t know what kinda mood I was in and I wanted something that required little to no thinking, especially cos most of my thoughts were caught up in playing Zelda and reading The Burnin God (which is super dark) 😂

  3. Oh gosh… The Burning God is a tough one. You have to be in the right mindset because it is so brutal!! I am sorry that your finished series wasn’t the best! I hope you are having a wonderful week, Dini!! ❤

    • It is *so* tough holy granola 😭 I’m so scared to like anyone in this book cos they either gonna do something unforgivable or they’re gonna die a horrible death and I never know which one it’s gonna be. Kuang got my feelings in a chokehold though, lol.

      • I remember being there. Absolutely no one is safe!! Haha. It makes it for a bit of a torture read. I can’t wait to see what you think when you finish it!!

  4. I’m at that point in the burning god too! I didn’t pick it up yesterday but will read some more today. Part 1 was wild.

    • Ooh, I hope you love The Bergman Brothers series. I love those books so much—Liese can write any kind of romance and I’m sure I’d love it. The way she writes, the diversity and rep, the character growth, the steam, the swoon, it’s all just fantastic 😍 I hope you enjoy the series! And The Poppy War is… Pretty incredible but it is also incredibly dark 👀
