📖 SYNOPSIS

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes a witty take on a romantic comedy classic, My Best Friend’s Wedding. Steamy, laugh-out-loud, and full of charm, these two best friends heat up the pages while proving true love might be right in front of you.

Have you ever heard of a man-in-waiting?

Yeah, neither has my best friend’s soon-to-be monster-in-law. Ooo, sorry, I meant mother-in-law. Nor has she heard of the term, what the bride wants, the bride gets.

With wedding planning underway and a short timeline, my best friend, Lia, has recruited me to help her battle the snarly beast that is Mrs. Beaver. Not scared at all, I accept the challenge as her man-in-waiting–aka, man of honor–and take matters into my own hands.

The only problem is, with every second we draw closer to the wedding, I’m starting to see my best girl in a different light.

She’s always been beautiful to me, but now… I find myself staring a touch too long. My hand lingering for one more minute. And when she’s upset? Allowing her to sleep in my bed.

And before I know what’s happening, it hits me like a ton of bricks. I’m in love with my best friend. Not just in love, but infatuated.

No one compares to her and nothing seems to distract me from that realization.
Not the girl I try to date while I help plan Lia’s wedding.
Not her angry fiancé who thinks I’m growing too close.
And not the looming deadline of her nuptials.

Which means, there’s only one thing left for me to do. Prove to Lia I’m the one she should be with instead. But with the pressure of her engagement, the stress from her soon-to-be mother-in-law, and the breath-stealing nerves running through me, I’m finding it a lot harder to claim the girl than I would like to admit.

Say a little prayer for me…

TL;DR: If I’m being honest, I didn’t remember much about Breaker from the previous Cane brother’s books, but I did like his story! It was sweet and swoony and I enjoyed how devoted he was as a friend and lover to Lia. The story had a strong emphasis on their friendship, which I loved, and it was definitely more of a slow burn too, but it still had Quinn’s signature comedy, quirkiness and charm! If you love a friends-to-lovers romance where the MMC falls hard and fast first, then you’ll probably enjoy A Long Time Coming!

“I think about you every second of every day, Lia. I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anything in my life.”

At nearly 500 pages, I have to admit that this romance is a bit of a chonkster! It was great that we really got to see how strong Lia and Breaker’s friendship was and how much time they spent together. Knowing this was a romance and thus would have a HEA, it was easy to look past the fact that both have relationships with other people—I mean, Lia is obviously engaged to someone else—but nothing more intimate than kissing happens. However, if you don’t enjoy seeing MCs with people other than the HEA love interest, you might not enjoy this because honestly, we saw more of Lia and Breaker as friends than as lovers!

As much as I loved seeing their friendship, I would’ve really liked it if we got to see more of how their relationship developed and saw how they navigate the change in their relationship. We do get a bit of that but I wanted more! I think it would’ve helped me feel more emotionally connected to the story because we spend a lot of page time with the (ex)fiancé and his mother, but knowing that it wasn’t going to last had me ready to skip past those parts to get to the good stuff when Lia and Breaker finally get together.

That said, I genuinely liked Lia and Breaker. They’re equally geeky and adorkable nerds who love their games, their fandoms, and spending time together—they clearly adored each other and their banter was funny and cute! It was so obvious how comfortable they felt around each other and that cosy feeling leapt off the pages. I also loved the friendships Lia forms with Lottie, Kelsey and Myla—the FMCs from the previous books in this series and their connection reminded me so much of my own with my besties, which was wonderfully heartwarming! They were a funny bunch of ladies and I loved how openly they talked about everything.

Between Lia and Breaker, I think he was more my fave because I felt he was a bit more dynamic, and we got to see more sides to him from the billionaire, the businessman, the best friend, the hopeless swoontastic romantic, and the filthy mouthed alpha. And, by the way, the steamy scenes were wicked hot (unsurprising cos it’s MQ after all)! 🔥🥵 But Breaker was just so incredibly sweet—in fact, almost sickeningly so with how much he worshipped the ground Lia walked on, lol! He was also thoughtful and considerate and it’s safe to say that I was a fan of his.

Ultimately though, I wanted more time with them after they progressed beyond just friends, especially since for Lia these feelings really seemed to come out of the blue. Breaker at least had more time to process his feelings and although it’s obvious where the story was gonna go, I felt their dynamic needed a bit more time to develop. Regardless, this was another fun romance from MQ and while it’s not my favourite or most memorable of hers, I still enjoyed her signature rom-com vibes!

    • I kinda thought this would be a new favourite from Quinn so I’m kinda sad that it wasn’t… 🥺 I still really enjoyed it though and I did find it charming but I wanted more of them! So much more of them cos they were adorable and Breaker was SO swoony!
