So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Series I’d Like to Start/Catch up on/Finish.
I know I’m not alone in saying that I’m great at starting series but I’m pretty horrible at completing them. There are only a handful of series that I’ve actually finished and many of them are before I found out there was an online book community and before I started blogging. Maybe there’s a connection there? 😂 But I digress… Here are a few series that I hope to finish at some point because I’m still interested in the books—some of these have been on my TBR pre-2019 but some are newer!

2 books to complete – The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden
1 book to complete – Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
1 book to complete – The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
1 book to complete – Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber
1 book to complete – Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

2 books to complete – The Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty
3 books to complete – The Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne
3 books to complete – The Cemetery of Forgotten Books by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
2 books to complete – The Poppy War Series by R.F. Kuang
1 book to complete – The Aurora Cycle by Amy Kauffman and Jay Kristoff

Have you read any of these series or are they also on your to-complete list? What is one of the oldest series that’s on your TBR? How long does it take for you to lose interest in a series or decide you no longer want to read it?

The only one I’ve read was Throne of Glass. I loved it, but I’m Maas trash. 🤷🏻♀️

I mean, from what I remember, I know I was really enjoying this series. It’s just been SO LONG since I read the second to last book that I feel like I need to re-read the previous ones to remember what happened before finally picking up KoA! 😂

Strange the Dreamer and The Poppy War are both amazing series!

I did love the first books of both series (and they emotionally wrecked me!) so (I think) I’m looking forward to finishing these series! 😂

I hope you can read The Heart Principle soon and finish up that series.

I know! I was beside myself with excitement thinking about that book before it released and yet here we are, still sitting unread on my shelf… For shame! 😂

The Winternight Trilogy! I enjoyed the first book, but actually thought it was the weakest looking back. Utterly adored 2 and 3. It’s still one of my favourite series.

Oh wow, that’s very exciting to hear cos I do remember enjoying it! I read the first book several years ago now so I’ve totally forgotten a lot of it. Though I plan to pick up all three in December and read them all in one go… Hopefully, it’ll actually happen! 😂

I’ve finished a lot of these! I do need to finish ToG though, haha.

You’re actually really good with finish series, Joanna! 😂 I feel like you’re the one bookish friend that intentionally works through series and does a fantastic job getting all the books read! Teach this panda your ways, pls! 🐼

Haha thank you! I do try my best and it helps to keep a doc on google to write down ones that aren’t completed and then highlight the ones that are so I know what I can do. Longer series just take forever for me to get through though!

If only I could be so consistently organised… 🫣 Haha, that’s a good idea to remember for the day I get my bookish self together! 😂

I read Helen Hoang’s first two books but have yet to read The Heart Principle. So many reviews I’ve read make me think it’s not the story I’d been hoping for.

I know, that’s part of my hesitation with picking it up especially because I was ridiculously excited for a full on romance for Quan BUT I’m going in with low expectations so hopefully, it won’t be too bad? I hope you enjoy it whenever you decide to pick it up, Tanya! 💜

I’m with you on Daevabad and The Poppy War trilogies! I did finish Winternight, I loved those books. I’ve tried two of Hoang’s books and didn’t care for them.

I’m hoping to finish the Winternight Trilogy this December! I really want to read it and figured it’s now or never (kidding, it’ll never be never, lol)! 😂 I can’t wait to read the books!

The only series you listed that I’ve tried is Strange the Dreamer. It was a really good book. I hope you get to finish that series.

I loved the first book in the duology and remember being so emotionally wrecked by that ending. Hopefully, I’ll get around to finishing this series sooner rather than later! 😂

Lol, you know what, yes, we are all enablers of each other when it comes to picking up more series than finishing. I haven’t read The Heart Principle either, but I just got distracted by other romance books. The Dragon Republic might be my favorite of the series, but gosh, it hurt.

I think the book community are pro-enablers when it comes to finishing any book before adding new ones to our lists. 😂 I keep getting distracted by other books all the time! I’m glad to hear TDR was your favourite in the series—I can only imagine how painful it must’ve been considering how I felt at the end of TPW!

The Angel’s Game sure looks like a good read.

The first book in this series is one of my all time favourites so I’m looking forward to continuing on with the series eventually 🙂

I bought the first book in the Caraval series after I succombed to the pressure of needing to know if it was as good as everyone said. But I still haven’t even read the first chapter. Why is buying books easier than finishing them aha

Haha, why do I relate to this so much!? I can’t even count the number of times I read a quote, excerpt or review of a book and immediately went to buy it and then left it unread. Let’s just say I won’t be running out of reading material any time soon. At all. Like, ever! 😂😂😂

The Winternight Trilogy made my list, too. I also need to finish Muse of Nightmares and the Aurora Cycle series.

I have *grand plans* to finish the whole Winternight trilogy this December… If you want to read it too, maybe we can do a buddy read? Let me know! 🙂

Aurora’s End and Kingdom of Ash are awesome finales. Happy reading!

I can’t wait to read both of them. I’m so glad to hear that they’re awesome finales cos there’s nothing more disappointing than a lacklustre series ending! 🙈

I still need to read The Kingdom of Ash and Aurora’s End too. And i haven’t started The Poppy War series but want to, especially after reading Babel. I hope you get a chance to read all of these, Dini!

I don’t know if I talked about it with you but I’d be down to do a series buddy read for TPW next year if you’re keen? I think reading it with someone (or even someones) would definitely be good for all parties involved—y’know, for all the emotional support I’m sure we’ll need, LOL!! 😂 Let me know!

Yes! I think you mentioned it. Let’s do it!!

The Heart Principle and Aurora’s End are also still on my TBR! I was super excited about both but then I saw some mixed reviews and I ended up procrastinating… but still really want to read them both! I thought Kingdom of Ash was a great finale, hope you’ll enjoy that one when you get to it.

I think I only recall seeing one review for Aurora’s End but I did see the mixed ones for THP. I think knowing that it’s different from what we initially expected will probably help me when I eventually pick it up. 😂 I think! I hope you enjoy both of them whenever you read them.

I am right there with you behind on TOG, The Aurora Cycle, and The Kiss Quotient. Honestly, I have put off The Heart Principal because of the reviews I had seen. Maybe one day.

Yeah, the mixed review for THP have definitely contributed to me not picking it up immediately but I think knowing that it’s gonna be totally different from what I expected will help, especially now that a lot of time has passed! 😂 I hope so anyway, I do still want to read it one day!

Winternight and Kiss Quotient are two series that I have read and enjoyed. I hope you get a chance to finish them. I have not read any of the others, but some of them sound interesting. Nice list, Dini.

Hmmm, you make a very good point. Most of the series I’ve left unfinished are ones I started pre-blogging. Oops! 😂 I do miss just getting lost in series. Pre-blogging, I would often reread entire series that I loved. I still need to read The Heart Principle and the entire Throne of Glass series. Great list, Dini!

I don’t often re-read but I do feel like I worked through series a lot quicker before learning about the book community and ALL the other books that I’ve discovered along with it! 😂 I wouldn’t change it though! I hope you enjoy ToG and The Heart Principle as well, Dedra! 💜

I really need to finish Muse of Nightmares but I’m so scared that it will crush me 😂 Same goes for TPW series actually!

Great list. We have Muse of Nightmare in common. I’m happy to see I’m not the only one with a series problem :D. I hope you get to finish the Throne of Glass series: it’s a great series I re-read every summer.

Wow! If you re-read ToG every summer, it gives me hope that I can also re-read it to finally finish it once! 😂 That’s amazing! I hope you enjoy Muse of Nightmares whenever you get around to picking it up!

This might be controversial, but I might hold off on finishing Helen Hoang’s series. The first two are definitely the best. The third one gets really, really sad.

Yeah, I’ve heard that it’s quite different to what a lot of people expected and I’m curious about it especially because it’s Quan! BUT yeah, I defo will go in with different expectations, that’s for sure! Thanks for the heads up 😊

I finished TOG and the Aurora Cycle this year. I kind of cheated with TOG, I skipped Chaol’s book. 😂

Haha, y’know, Chaol gets a lot of flack but I never got the hate. I actually didn’t mind his book! I mean, he wasn’t my fave or anything but tolerable. 😂 I wonder if that’ll change once I re-read the books before finishing the series! LOL
