#WWWWednesday: 19 October 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I managed to finish seven books. I’ve unexpectedly binged my way through a dark mafia romance series that wasn’t even on my radar until I randomly clicked on it while browsing on KU. More on that below but it wasn’t what I should’ve been reading though (sorry, to my ARCs and tour reads)!

(ARC) Runaway Groomsman by Meghan Quinn ★★★★☆
I had such a great time reading this! It’s a sweet, swoony slow-burn and I would recommend it if you’re looking for an entertaining small-town rom-com (that’s actually comedic)!
[CHECK OUT MY REVIEW]

(Audible) A Thief in the Night by K.J. Charles ★★★★☆
I didn’t expect my first romance audiobook would be a historical MM romance but here we are and I loved it! This novella was funny, mysterious and sexy, and I think both narrators did a great job capturing each character’s personality. I want more of Toby and Miles, please! 😍

(KU) Dark Verse Series by RuNyx ★★★½
The Predator (3★), The Reaper (3.5★), The Emperor (4★), The Finisher (3.5★), The Annihilator (3★)
I generally don’t read mafia romances so I don’t know why I picked this up cos I knew nothing about this author or series! It’s definitely binge-able but not great quality writing though it satisfied my need to read and not think too hard. I’ll do a mini-series review even though (annoyingly) the series isn’t finished yet. I highly recommend checking out the content/trigger warnings cos this book involves human sex trafficking, amongst other dark and disturbing topics!

I’m currently reading THREE books—one ARC and two buddy reads.

  • The Miraculous Sweetmakers: The Frost Fair by Natasha Hastings → 45% → I’m a bit behind for my tour stop tomorrow but I think I can finish by tonight! 🙈
  • Babel by R.F. Kuang → 35% → BR with a group of bloggers → Let’s just say, holy granola! 🤯
  • Wolfsong by TJ Klune → 42% → BR with Leslie & Destiny → Still haven’t picked it back up again…

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

    • Honestly, I don’t even know how seven books happened Jordyn cos for the past two months it’s been one or two books per week, if that! 😂 I’m definitely planning to read all of Charles’ books—I so enjoy her writing and characters and romance! 😍

    • Babel is incredible and I’m in awe of Kuang’s brain. I feel like I keep saying that but it’s true—this book is just mind blowing! I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the book to come back to you and I hope you enjoy it whenever you read it! 😃

    • Girl, I don’t even know how it happened. I didn’t even particularly *super love* these dark romance books but I just got on a roll with bingeing them and next thing I know… All five in the series were done 😂 Now I’m paying for it by not having the ARC I needed to get done read OR our Babel section done, lol. Welp!

      • Lol… hey… sometimes that’s nice though! I definitely took on way too many arcs this year and I plan NOT to do that next year. I have mostly only read ARCS the last half of the year and that’s so sad.

    • Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that Babel put you in a slump! 😞 It’s defo not light reading and honestly, I think I probably would’ve struggled without listening along to the audiobook and having other people to chat with about it. We broke it down in chunks spanning the whole of October so as not to get overwhelmed and it’s helped a lot! I think being in the right mood for a heavy “academic”-esque read that you have to “work at” is necessary though. Once you get through at least like 40% then things start to pick up faster and becomes more enjoyable! It’s definitely blowing my mind 😂
