The Contradictions Book Tag

Hi, friends! Hope everyone is doing okay 💜 I’m back with another tag today!

A few weeks ago, Jordyn @ Jordyn Reads tagged me to do The Contradictions Book Tag! It’s an original tag created by Daniela @ If Only For A Page and it was lots of fun to do but I also found a few of the prompts a little tough to find answers for, especially for the ones about tropes (my brain decided to go on vacation)! Now without further ado, let’s get to it.

1. I LOVE THIS GENRE BUT DIDN’T LIKE THIS BOOK

when sparks fly by helena hunting

I know HH is a popular author but this was my first book by her and it just didn’t click with me. It could be because I didn’t like both characters, especially the leading lady? I’m happy to say that I liked the second book better though!

2. I RARELY READ THIS GENRE BUT I LOVED THIS BOOK

killers of the flower moon by david grann

I don’t read a lot of non-fiction but I read this as fast as I usually read fiction and it quickly became one of my favourite books (still is). It’s so well-written and engaging!

3. I LOVE THIS TROPE BUT DIDN’T LIKE THIS BOOK

josh and gemma make a baby by sarah ready

Despite not being a big fan of angst, I do really enjoy the brother’s best friend/best friend’s little sister trope but this one didn’t work out for me.

4. I HATE THIS TROPE BUT I LOVED THIS BOOK

heartbreak symphony by laekan zea kemp

I strongly dislike the instalove trope and the romance in this one had those vibes. Luckily, the romance wasn’t such a big part of this that it bothered me all too much!

5. I LOVE THIS AUTHOR BUT I DIDN’T LIKE THIS BOOK

the ocean at the end of the lane by neil gaiman

I’ve read a few of Neil Gaiman‘s books now and I love his writing and the whimsy, magic and darkness in his stories. However, this book just didn’t work for me. I also listened to it on audio (narrated by Neil himself), which I thought would help me enjoy it more, but sadly, I didn’t and found it a little boring (if I’m being honest).

6. I PREVIOUSLY DISLIKED A BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR BUT I LOVED THIS BOOK

normal people by sally rooney

The year before this book came out, I was recommended Rooney’s debut, Conversations with Friends, and I absolutely *hated* it. 😂 Like, it made me so frustrated and angry and it was just not a good time. So it was such a total surprise to me when I loved Normal People and I still think about it to this day!

7. I LOVE THIS COVER BUT I DIDN’T LIKE THIS BOOK

frozen hearts and death magic by day leitao

This cover ate but sadly, the story inside was not great (imo). I was so excited to start reading it but it read so young and maybe it was the whole “telenovela” in written form that just didn’t work for me? Whatever it was, I didn’t enjoy it and this is one of those books I really should’ve DNF’d!

8. I DON’T LIKE THIS COVER BUT I LOVED THIS BOOK

the mindf*ck series by s.t. abby

IMHO, all the covers in this series are terrible. They make it seem like this series is something completely different from what it is. The Mindf*ck series was such a pleasant (albeit gruesome) surprise and I loved it so much!

That’s it from me, folks! I won’t be tagging anyone specifically but if you want to do it, be sure to link back to me so I can go check out your answers and see what the tea is! 😉

Have you read any of these books? Do you agree/disagree with my answers?

    • It was a toughie for sure but I did end up having fun answering them (and felt so good when I managed to get all the answers filled lol)! I hope you enjoy answering this one—I can’t wait to see your answers! Also, YES! The Mindf*ck Series was so so good and such a surprise with these covers 😂 Not at all what I expected, haha!

    • HAHA, YEP. The whole series has awful awful covers which make the content seem like something completely different to what it is. I mean, it does have sexy times but it’s not erotica 😂 Thanks for tagging me, Jordyn 💜
