So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is actually a freebie and so I decided to do a topic that I don’t think I’ve done before: Book Quote Freebie (Share your favorite book quotes that fit a theme of your choosing! These could be quotes about books/reading, or quotes from books. Some examples are: quotes for book lovers, quotes that prove reading is the best thing ever, funny things characters have said, romantic declarations, pretty scenery descriptions, witty snippets of dialogue, etc.)
Prompts to do with quotes are always a little troublesome for me as I never keep proper track of that while reading. It’s a good thing that reading on my Kindle makes keeping track so easy but I’ve also started annotating my books while reading which has helped significantly! For this week’s quote freebie I’ve decided to share a few from ten of my most recent reads. I tried to choose ones that weren’t spoilery but maybe these quotes will make you want to check out these books! 😉

THE CITY OF BRASS
“You’re some kind of thief, then?”
“That’s a very narrow-minded way of looking at it. I prefer to think of myself as a merchant of delicate tasks.”
“I’m not sleeping alongside you in some temple dedicated to fish orgies.”
FALLING FOR THE ENEMY
“Just knowing you, Jasper, being with you, it’s taught me everything. Like, even when things were bad between us and we hated each other, you gave me focus, something to fight against and for. And I feel like… I know myself so much better for it. Where my lines are, what’s important to me. How far I’m willing to go, and how much I’m not the person I thought I was, but… that’s better too, in a way. […] Thank you, for being that person for me. For showing me that I’m stronger than I realized.”
THE IVORY KEY
“My mother used to say that once you’ve made a choice, you have to act as though it’s been made forever. But I don’t know if I believe that’s true. Our lives aren’t decided by one choice, but by a series of small decisions that build up to pivotal moments. You can always make a different choice at the next juncture.”
MEET ME HALFWAY
“It was time consuming, but I’d learned years ago, spending a few extra minutes babying my curls was the difference between “Yes, girl, work it,” and having animals bow down to me as their new king.”
“The coolest thing about choices, bud, is they’re yours. You don’t have to like anyone if you don’t want to. You should never be rude without cause, but there is nothing that says you have to like Mr. Garrett.”
STARRY-EYED LOVE
“I can understand not wanting to lose that closeness, but if you have to let your own dreams languish so they can live theirs, is that really better?”
TO SIR, WITH LOVE
“I live a good life—I do. But I’m learning it’s a life lived largely for the people around me, to support their expectations, to never rock the boat, to never let anyone down. I feel trapped, but how does one find that balance—to be true to oneself without being selfish?”
EVERYTHING FOR YOU
“Life is not a romance novel.”
“One of my biggest beefs with life.”
“Being alone is not the same as being lonesome.”
“True. But sometimes it’s nice not to be alone.”
“You’re the fucking sunrise of my heart, love.”
FAKE IT TILL YOU BAKE IT
“My name is Jada Townsend-Matthews, and I am enough. My name is Jada Townsend-Matthews, and I am… going to beat her ass!”
Oh, shit.
“Anyway, he then said he thought I was beautiful and I was more beautiful on the inside than I was on the outside.”
“And you haven’t declared your undying love yet? Girl. Girl. I admire your fortitude and resiliency. Couldn’t be me.”
A PSALM FOR THE WILD-BUILT
“You keep asking why your work is not enough, and I don’t know how to answer that, because it is enough to exist in the world and marvel at it. You don’t need to justify that, or earn it. You are allowed to just live.”

THE EMPRESS OF SALT AND FORTUNE
“Angry mothers raise daughters fierce enough to fight wolves.”
“You will never remember the great if you do not remember the small.”
“She disappeared like Kazu did, like any number of women did over the years, unremarked, and their demise as unremarkable as surely they were not.”

Do you keep track of your favourite quotes when you’re reading? Have you read any of these books or do the quotes make you want to read them?

“You keep asking why your work is not enough, and I don’t know how to answer that, because it is enough to exist in the world and marvel at it. You don’t need to justify that, or earn it. You are allowed to just live.”
Absolutely.

I tried not to share spoilers but I’m not sure if I did a great job at it 😂 Hopefully if I did share anything spoilery, it wasn’t so bad.

Nghi Vo has such a mystical foggy way of writing those books, it’s like every line could be a quote. And you KNOW how I feel about City of Brass. ^.^
Here’s my nonfiction quotes post — maybe you can find a nonfiction title to give a try despite them not being your fav 😀

Yes! Vo’s book started off really confusing and I was 99% sure it would go over my head but ugh, I’m so glad it clicked for me. I could annotate the f out of her book lol

I think the To Sir, With Love one hit so hard because of how much I can relate and how much I struggle to find that balance 😂 And yes, I don’t know what I’d do without my Kindle. I love it so much!

It is so good! It was my first book by this author and I’m so glad that I’ve finally read her work. It’s a novella so not very long to read but the way she absorbed me in the story and characters was fantastic. I hope you enjoy it if you decide to give it a try 🙂
