#WWWWednesday: 18 May 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I’ve managed to finish six books. It’s been another week where it feels like I haven’t read anything but, in fact, I have read a fair bit? Funny that!

To Sir, With Love by Lauren Layne ★★★★☆
Super sweet and ridiculously cute! I loved the epistolary chapters, the angsty enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance, and the sibling relationships and friendships. So much fun bubbly goodness and a rom-com I’d recommend!

(ARC) Sweeter than Honey (Honey Hill #2) by Joy Avery ★★★½
This was a fun small-town romance ft. brother’s best friend, friends-to-lovers vibes, fake dating, delightful banter and hilarious, meddling oldies! But I didn’t connect with the romance as much as I wanted to and felt there was a lot more “telling” than “showing”.

(ARC) Starry-Eyed Love (Spark House #2) by Helena Hunting ★★★½
I’m so glad I liked this more than the first book! I loved the will-they-won’t-they friends to lovers vibe and I thought London and Jackson were great together. It’s quite the slow burn but the payoff is so worth it! Check out my review.

(KU) Boss of Me by Tia Louise ★½
I’m very much in the minority here but this was a no. The more I read the more I cringed cos there were so many problematic things that kept happening and I wanted to scream! It looked like a book that would give, but give it most certainly did not.

(ARC) The Ivory Key (The Ivory Key Duology #1) by Akshaya Raman ★★★½
I was a little worried about this one after quite a bit of a rough start but the second half absolutely redeemed this for me! The action and Indiana Jones-style adventure were great and I loved the mystery and puzzles. Can has book two, pls? 🥹 Check out my review.

(KU) Meet Me Halfway by Lilian T. James ★★★★½
Planned to read a bit of this before trying to sleep and ended up staying up all night finishing it. The antagonistic grumpy neighbour turned friends-to-lovers romance was so good! It had great friendships, SO MUCH BANTER, and a heartwarming parent-child relationship. This might be one of my new favourite single parent romances!

After my TTT post yesterday, I finally decided it’s time to pick up The City of Brass and y’know what? I actually did it! 😂 I’m only 23% through so far and it’s a little bit slow but I’m enjoying the world-building and historical fantasy setting. I hope it picks up soon though!

I forgot that Falling for the Enemy came out yesterday (it’s on KU!) but I’ve been looking forward to it ever since Golding shared a sneak peek a while back. I thought the first book in this series was alright but I’m *loving* this one. The enemies-to-lovers vibe is giving me life and their chemistry is absolutely explosive! It’s got similar vibes to “To Sir, With Love”!

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

    • Haha, honestly, I didn’t have very high expectations for the one that ended up being 1.5 but I also didn’t expect it to be so bad 😂 I know I whinged to you sooo much about City of Brass but I’m so glad that I ended up loving that last bit cos it really pumped me up for the next book 😅 I hope you’ve had an amazing birthday week too, Leslie! • Whew! I was sweating it there a bit. I love that trilogy and I was like… what on earth will I do if Dini doesn’t like it?!?! haha!! I hope you enjoy the rest of it, but I think the books just get better and better!! It was a great birthday week! ❤

    • It was honestly a bit of a rough start for me and I have very mixed feelings overall so far but that last 15% of The City of Brass was WILD in the best way! I’m *so* looking forward to reading the next book now cos I need to know what happens next! 😍 So glad to hear that you enjoyed the whole series—I hope I end up loving it more too!

    • Yes, you’re so right! I loved that the sibling relationships were given so much attention and it was such a realistic/relatable depiction as well. I can’t wait to see what happens next—the stakes feel so much higher now!

    • I saw someone share an excerpt of Meet Me Halfway on Twitter and I was immediately like “ooh, I need to check this out” and got very excited when I saw it on KU! 😍 And yes, To Sir with Love was so so cute!

  3. The first two books in the City of Brass series are slow for the first half and pick up the second half making it worth it. The third book was fantastic from start to finish. Hope you enjoy it!

    • I just finished City of Brass and THAT ENDING?! Aah, I need to read the second book now, haha! It was definitely slow going but wow, that last 15% really did it for me. So, so good! 😍 I can’t wait to get to the third book now! Lol

  4. okay now i kind of regret not doing the ttt post too just so i could perhaps have the motivation to read one of the books too?? BUT I’M SO GLAD YOU STARTED CITY OF BRASS, and i hope you love it!!

    • Haha, you could always do this TTT topic whenever there’s a freebie next time? Or you could do a separate post inspired by the topic! I don’t always get motivated to immediately pick up the books that I feel guilty for not reading sooner but I’m glad the guilt got me this time 😂
