Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?
Since last week I’ve managed to finish six books! I’ve been steamrolling through Brighton Walsh’s Havenbrook series and I’m sad that I’ve finished the series but undoubtedly had a fantastic time with the Haven sisters and their loves! 🥲
Anti-Stepbrother by Tijan ★★½
This was my first Tijan so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I liked how the friendship developed between the H/h but I found the heroine too manic-pixie and she spent way too long vacillating on her feelings over her douchey stepbrother. I also didn’t feel like we got enough of the hero for me to really care about him, plus this was very angsty and I didn’t like the girl-girl hate over idiots! Overall, I don’t think this was for me. Mini RTC!
How to Love Your Neighbor by Sophie Sullivan ★★★☆☆
This started off really well for me—I liked the rom-com vibe and the cheeky and slightly antagonistic banter between Grace and Noah. Sadly, as the story progressed I found myself getting a little bored and I never felt fully invested in their romance. Though I did like their individual character development! RTC closer to pub date in Jan 2022.
A People’s History of Heaven by Mathangi Subramanian ★★★★½
This was an absolutely stunning literary debut! It’s full of gorgeous prose and vivid descriptions that flowed so smoothly and fully immersed me, making it no hardship to read. This is a story about the grandmothers, mothers, and daughters in Heaven, a large slum in Bangalore, and it is full of heart. I loved how it smartly addressed socioucultural issues through the lens of the daughters of Heaven, who are brilliant, sassy and clever young women! RTC.
Pact With A Heartbreaker (Havenbrook #3) by Brighton Walsh ★★★★☆
A great novella to introduce us to the friendship and romantic history between Mac and Hudson, who are officially my favourite couple in the Havenbrook series! This friends-to-lovers romance had the perfect balance of banter, humour and angsty heartbreak. Check out my review!
Captain Heartbreaker (Havenbrook #4) by Brighton Walsh ★★★★½
This picks up 10 years after Pact With A Heartbreaker and oh my lord, the wonderful friendship, the mutual pining, and the off-the-charts chemistry that led to some set-fire-to-my-Kindle steaminess, was so freaking good! *chefs kiss* RTC.
Small Town Pretender (Havenbrook #5) by Brighton Walsh ★★★½
While I enjoyed this, something about it didn’t click as much for me compared to the other books in the series. It could be because Nat hasn’t always been a favourite but it also took a while for me to warm up to her and Asher’s changed relationship. Overall, it definitely had the elements I loved in Walsh’s books and I did enjoy it, but it’s not a favourite! RTC.
I’m about 50% of the way through Chef’s Kiss and I’ve really had to slow myself down while reading this because it’s just too good! 🙈 It’s got loveable characters, it’s relatable, it’s freaking adorable and despite currently recovering from a bout of food poisoning, it’s also making me kinda hungry! It’s undoubtedly gonna be a 5-star read (unless something super drastic happens in the last half lol) and I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy! I also started my ARC copy of Revenge for a tour next week and I’m struggling a bit cos the writing style is just not clicking with me 🙈 I’m hoping it gets better!
Anything is possible, especially in my current mood! 😂
What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍
