#WWWWednesday: 29 September 2021

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I’ve read six books. It’s more romances from my side although I think I’m going to stop with this particular romantic suspense series for now… I also found my first 5-star read in months!

Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors (Guild Codex Universe #1) by Annette Marie & Rob Jacobsen ★★★★☆
I’ve never read anything set in this universe but this was such a fun read! Lots of magic, rogue magic guilds, the “magic police”, hunting psychopaths and ex-best-friends, demons and more. Kit is our main character and he’s delightfully witty and deviously charming! Can’t wait to read more from this universe (and there are a lot of books to read). RTC.

Lucky Number Eleven by Adriana Locke ★★★☆☆
Minor spoiler: I’m not a fan of the surprise pregnancy trope and this one surprised me by having it so this is a “it’s not the book, it’s me” moment! 🙈 I liked Branch at the start but he was quite the dillweed when he found out about Layla’s situation and it took time for me to be convinced of his turn-around attitude. I respected Layla’s determination to be on her own but I kind of wished we saw more strength from her character—it was more tell than show. There were defo cute banter-filled moments though and I’m glad they worked out their HEA in the end! RTC.

Honor’s Revenge (Masters’ Admiralty #4) by Mari Carr & Lila Dubois ★★★½
Hugo, Lancelot and Sylvia were an unlikely trio but they worked together really well. Hugo & Sylvia are huge scholarly nerds that thrive on deep discussions about writing and art, while Lancelot balances them out by being the gruff knight in their relationship. This was steamy AF! 🥵 Dastardly loose ends are also tied up and we’re one step closer to learning about the Mastermind. RTC.

Bravery’s Sin (Masters’ Admiralty #5) by Mari Carr & Lila Dubois ★★★½
After what feels like forever, we finally learn the truth behind the Mastermind in Nyx & Grigoris’ story. This was a couple I’ve been eager to read about since we get a glimpse of their chemistry in the previous book and their romance did not disappoint. The final showdown with the baddies though was a little underwhelming and if I’m honest, quite a *whomp whomp* moment. RTC.

Wrath’s Storm (Masters’ Admiralty #6) by Mari Carr & Lila Dubois ★★☆☆☆
This was just not for me. I loved the criminal investigation aspects of profiling and hunting down a serial killer but the reveal also kind of fell flat for me. The story dragged on and sadly, I did not feel the chemistry with this trio—their insta-love was too insta for me! RTC.

Good Girl, Bad Blood (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder #2) by Holly Jackson ★★★★★
Woo, I found my first 5-star in ages! 😍 I didn’t think I’d love this one more than the first but here we are! Pippa is such a fantastic character and my heart keeps breaking for her as she slowly spiralled out of control the deeper she got pulled into this mystery. This was well-paced and emotionally charged and I defo recommend it! Check out my full review.

I’m planning to finish As Good As Dead, the third and final book in the AGGGTM series tonight! This is much darker than the first two books and I’m legit terrified! I then plan to focus on The Goddess of Nothing At All. Things are “fun” and “happy” right now and I’m scared when things are that way in Norse Mythology retellings cos they’re never happy, so ya know something bad is bound to be just around the corner. Welp! 🥲

I’m also 30% through Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections but have put it aside for now to focus on some tour reads. I’ve made zero progress with She Who Became the Sun… 😬

More ARCs, more tours… and probably (most definitely) a lot more romance! 😉

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

    • I haven’t heard of her books before but I got this as part of a romance book club freebie! It wasn’t my favourite or most memorable but I think it was definitely more cos the trope wasn’t one of my faves!
