Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! It’s been a very hot minute since I did one but I figured I might as well get back into it! This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.*
*Sorry if a book has been featured twice. I need to make better note of which ones I’ve done already!
This week’s featured book is The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen. It’s a YA** romantasy that came out in 2020 and has an average rating of 4.11 with several thousand reviews/ratings on Goodreads. It’s the first book in The Bridge Kingdom series (1 of 5).

A warrior princess trained in isolation, Lara is driven by two certainties. The first is that King Aren of the Bridge Kingdom is her enemy. And the second is that she’ll be the one to bring him to his knees.
The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom enriches itself and deprives its rivals, including Lara’s homeland. So when she’s sent as a bride under the guise of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture its impenetrable defenses. And the defenses of its king.
Yet as she infiltrates her new home and gains a deeper understanding of the war to possess the bridge, Lara begins to question whether she’s the hero or the villain. And as her feelings for Aren transform from frosty hostility to fierce passion, Lara must choose which kingdom she’ll save… and which kingdom she’ll destroy.
Why do I want to read it?
I don’t know which cover that I like more here but I have the Kindle edition with the cover on the right! But I digress… A few months ago, this book started appearing like clockwork on my Kindle ads and I was always intrigued by it every time I saw the cover but I never really took a proper look at it (and what it was about) until recently. Honestly, I didn’t know it was such a popular title! But so many reviewers I trust have rated this highly, and some of them don’t give high ratings often, so that has made me even more curious and excited to check this one out. A warrior princess spy? An enemies to lovers romance? I’m always on the look out for more romantasy books and this one sounds right up my alley 😊
**My only question is: is it really YA? Or is it NA or even adult? I’ve seen some mixed shelving going on on GR!
Have you read The Bridge Kingdom or is it on your TBR too?

I haven’t read it, but it’s on my TBR. I love the author and even have the first book – just need to find the time to read it! lol

I have read this one and liked it! I still need to continue to book two but since book three hasn’t released yet I may just wait and do a reread, haha.

Yes, I saw your rating and I was like ooh, it’s high so it must be good! Haha I can’t wait to give it a try. Or maybe I’ll wait until book three releases? Though it’s not a trilogy, right?

I believe it is! I’m pretty sure the third will be out next year.

I love this series and for some reason I automatically thought it was adult fiction when I first read it. I had to check and yes Lara is 20 years old so I guess it could be NA or adult.

I saw your rating for it! I’m excited to give it a go cos it does have super high ratings and it sounds really good. I did see it has steamy scenes (right?) so I was wondering if it was really YA or not 😂

A warrior princess spy? How badass is that? 🙂 Not being clear on the genre (or rather, the intended age) is such a pet peeve of mine. I don’t want to go in expecting an adult story and find out it’s YA.

Right? It sounds really good! I wonder if it’ll be any better going in expecting YA and getting NA or adult—but yeah, I don’t like it when it’s the other way around! But it has some great reviews so hopefully it won’t be disappointing!
