Goodreads Monday – The Songbook of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon

Welcome back to Goodreads Monday! It’s been a very hot minute since I did one but I figured I might as well get back into it! This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it. Easy enough, right? Feel free to join in if you want to! I’ll be using a random number generator to pick my books from my insanely long GR Want-to-read list.*

*Sorry if a book has been featured twice. I need to make better note of which ones I’ve done already!

This week’s featured book is The Songbook of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon. This is a historical fiction that comes out tomorrow (16 March)!

New York, 1960: For Benny Lament, music is his entire life. With his father’s deep ties to the mob, the Bronx piano man has learned that love and family can get you in trouble. So he keeps to himself, writing songs for other musicians, avoiding the spotlight…until the night his father brings him to see Esther Mine sing.

Esther is a petite powerhouse with a gorgeous voice. And when Benny writes a hit song and performs it with her, their collaboration thrusts the duo onto the national stage…and stirs up old issues and new scrutiny that the mob—and Benny—would rather avoid.

It would be easier to walk away. But the music and the woman are too hard for the piano man to resist. Benny’s songs and Esther’s vocals are an explosive combination, a sound that fans can’t get enough of. But though America might love the music they make together, some people aren’t ready for Benny Lament and Esther Mine on—or off—the stage.

Why do I want to read it?

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I still haven’t read any book by Amy Harmon even though I have all of her books on my TBR and they’ve been sitting on there untouched for quite a while… Shame, I know! 🙈 The cover and title of this book immediately caught my eye and piqued my interest and I did start it already but I put it aside to finish my current blog tour read. I’m going to be picking it back up ASAP though because I enjoyed what I’ve read so far (only about 10% in) and I can’t wait to come back to Benny’s story. I have a feeling this one is going to crush me? Make me feel crazy emotional? I don’t know. I have a feeling it’s gonna be great though! 😍

Have you read anything by Amy Harmon? Is this book on your TBR?
