Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to read 5 books. It was a bit of a mixed bag with mostly so-so reads and one big win, so at least there’s that!
Among the Beasts & Briars by Ashley Poston ★★★☆☆
I was disappointed that I didn’t love this more but I went into it expecting something completely different. This is a light fantasy fairytale that was a little whimsical, with writing on the younger side of YA, but it was a lot spookier than I expected! Sadly, I didn’t really connect with the characters and inconsistencies in the story/characters kept jarring me out of the zone. Not bad, but not a fave. RTC!
The Crowns of Croswald (The Crowns of Croswald #1) by D.E. Night ★★☆☆☆ (or 1.5 idk)
I FINISHED IT. I FINALLY FINISHED IT! And I wept with relief when I did. 😂 Wow, this is one of those books that sounded like it’d be amazing but it ended up being so very, very not for me! There were some interesting world elements but I simply couldn’t get into it and did not care. This took me two months to finish and I honestly wish I had DNF’ed it. Check out my full review.
The Tobacco Girls (The Tobacco Girls #1) by Lizzie Lane
This was a blog tour read and it was an interesting historical fiction from a perspective that I’ve (personally) never read before. The premise was really interesting and I was expecting a lot more. In the end, I just don’t think it was for me, but my opinion is definitely in the minority! Read an excerpt.
Ever After Always (Bergman Brothers #3) by Chloe Liese ★★★★★
My week of reading was saved by this book. I had no doubt that I would enjoy it but I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I did. Marriage-in-crisis romances aren’t always my jam but I shouldn’t have worried because I have loved every one of Liese’ books in this series. I gushed A LOT in my review. TL;DR: if you’re looking for a great marriage-in-crisis slow burn romance with great representation for anxiety and body positivity then look no further! Check out my review here.
Sew Basic by Kat Addams ★☆☆☆☆
This was a free book that I got from a romance author’s newsletter, in which she features books from other authors. I checked out reviews after I finished it and I feel like I read something completely different to everyone else because the lowest rating I found was 3 stars and I just… Huh? There were some Romeo-Juliet forbidden enemies-to-lovers vibes that could’ve had potential but insta-love? Nup. Unlikable, shallow & extremely privileged characters? Yeah, nah. The steamy wasn’t even really steamy? Simply put, I guess this book was just not my jam. 😂 (I mean no offense if you liked it!).

I’m finishing up Girl on the Ferris Wheel for my stop on the blog tour tomorrow and so far, it’s not a bad but the writing is leaning more towards the younger end of YA. It’s giving me major flashbacks to my first relationship as a freshman in HS and how truly awkward those firsts can be, and it’s kinda funny and a little painful to reflect on 😂 I started Starfish again last week but I had to take a break because oof, this book makes me so emotional?! I mean, I’m an emotional reader anyway, but wow, this is next level (and I do mean that in the best way)! 🙃 I will also be continuing House of Earth and Blood and eventually, Permanent Record (unless this will be my first (very painful) DNF of 2021 cos I haven’t felt the pull to pick it up again since putting it down at the end of December)!

I do have some blog tour reads that I need to get on and that I’m really looking forward to. Trading Secrets is an ARC I got from the author but… I’m starting to feel like it’s really not my jam. It sounded so interesting but I’m struggling to get into it. I’ve decided to put it down for now but I’ll hopefully come back to it again soon.

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Hope your 2021 has kicked off on a strong bookish note! Happy reading, friends! 😍

I have really been wanting to read Among the Beast and Briars. Too bad you didn’t like it 😦 Also, House of Earth and Blood is phenomenal. One of my favorite books of last year and I NEED the second book now! -Christie

Well, I liked ATBAB well enough, I just thought I’d love it? Lol but it wasn’t bad just different to what I expected. I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up, Christie 😊 I can’t wait to get back to HOEAB and will hopefully get to soon after my blog tour reads this month! Hope you’ve had a great week!

I’ve heard a lot of positive reviews about HOEAB but I guess a lot of it from SJM fans. I have liked her books previously so I’m looking forward to seeing if this’ll be any different. It’s an intimidating chonkster though 😂 Hope you’ve had a great week (in reading and in general), KB!

YAYAY!!!! I’M SO HAPPY YOU LOVED IT! 🥰😍🥰 Haha, I totally get your feeling though. I felt annoyed with myself for not picking it up as soon as I got the ARC but it’s okay. We’ve read it. We’ve loved it. Ah, the heartwarming feels 🥰 Are you on the TBR Beyond blog tour for Cast in Firelight? I just started it last night! I hope you enjoy it, Becky!

Hahaha I loved it & instantly threw it at my sister shouting she had to read it 😂. I am on the TBR tour for it, I missed out on an Arc through NG so got excited when I was accepted on the tour. Hope you enjoy it ☺️

Starfish has me really curious- I guess that cool cover always draws me in. The Poston book has me kinda interested too, even if it does skew younger a bit…

Starfish has been really good so far but as an emotional reader and as someone who can definitely relate to the protag’s feelings it is super heavy! The cool cover is also what drew me in too 😛 I was definitely in the minority with my feelings towards Poston’s book so I would definitely recommend it if you’re interested in it! Happy reading, Greg!

I can’t wait to hear what you think of House of Earth and Blood and Cast in Firelight! I enjoyed both, though HOEAB was a bit slow at first. And The Mistletoe Trap is a super cute read. I hope you enjoy all of your reads!

I still haven’t picked up HOEAB again cos of blog tour reads lol. But I picked up Cast in Firelight last night and I’m enjoying it so far! I ended up reading The Mistletoe Trap on a whim last week and sped through it in a few hours cos it was unputdownable! Such a cute and sweet read–defo will be checking out more by this author! Hope you’ve had a great reading week, Julie 😊

Sorry you didn’t love Among the Beasts and Briars more. I also read that last week and I had a pretty good time with it. I’ll admit though that I get sucked in with certain tropes pretty easily and it’s easy for me to overlook some flaws because of that LOL. Hope you enjoy your reading this week, Dini!

I’m so disappointed I didn’t love it more either, Lisa! I don’t know why… I guess I was just expecting something completely different? But I know I’m defo in the minority with my feels! LOL I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed it 😍 Hope you’ve had a great week!

I didn’t know what I expected going in to that one–I had assumed it would be some kind of beauty and the beast retelling but it turned out really surprising. I was like ‘zombies from the woods okay I’m down with this’. I think it helped that I was somehow into the weird horror elements. It was a lot more horror than you’d think going into it! So I can totally see how it could throw someone out of it.
Thanks, I’ve had a pretty good week–just need to work on actually finishing a book haha. 🙂

I actually still haven’t picked it back up again as I’ve been prioritising my blog tour reads and so it’s pretty early days in the book. But I’m enjoying it thus far and I can see myself really getting into it once I set aside time for it! 😉 I know a lot of people loved it!

It really was so good! A bit of a slow burner in the beginning while the scene is set but once it gets going it is just incredible! I can’t wait to read the next one when it eventually comes out!
