Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve been you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

This Sunday I’ve spent my day partially in bed with Gods of Jade and ShadowAlong with about three other books that I’ve started/stopped reading since I finished my last read on Saturday 😂 I’m enjoying Gods of Jade and Shadow, but because of my crazy reading mood it’s taking me a little while to get into it. Basically, I love it while I’m reading it and I’m immersed in the richly described world, but when I put it down I’m not (yet) racing to pick it back up again. This is 100% my mood and nothing to do with the book though!

The Mayan God of Death sends a young woman on a harrowing, life-changing journey in this dark fairy tale inspired by Mexican folklore, for readers of The Song of Achilles and Uprooted.

The Jazz Age is in full swing, but Casiopea Tun is too busy cleaning the floors of her wealthy grandfather’s house to listen to any fast tunes. Nevertheless, she dreams of a life far from her dusty, small town in southern Mexico. A life she can call her own.

Yet this new life seems as distant as the stars, until the day she finds a curious wooden box in her grandfather’s room. She opens it–and accidentally frees the spirit of the Mayan God of Death, who requests her help in recovering his throne from his treacherous brother. Failure will mean Casiopea’s demise, but success could make her dreams come true.

In the company of the strangely alluring god and armed with her wits, Casiopea begins an adventure that will take her on a cross-country odyssey, from the jungles of Yucatán to the bright lights of Mexico City–and deep into the darkness of the Mayan underworld.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve been feeling pretty listless this past week and I’ve also been plagued by migraines for three days out of the week and it’s been a struggle to find my way out of the fog that seems to be sitting heavy over me lately. I don’t want to be negative in this space because it’s my happy book place but it’s just what it is right now. I feel like while I was more “okay” at the start of the pandemic, the seclusion has started getting to me more. I know I’m lucky and very privileged that I can at least be with my family, but mixing my “work” space with my “rest” space has not been conducive to productivity and my mental health. I might try to find another space to work, maybe even work with my dad downstairs if possible, but let’s see!

On a more positive note, I set up some fairy lights on my bookshelf a few weeks ago but it was overcast and storming this morning, so I had my blinds open, my fairy lights on and I curled up for a bit on my lazy chair. It was so relaxing! My shelves are still half-finished (the bottom half is just a mess) but I’ve also ordered more fairy lights to complete the look!

Reading & Blogging Recap

I didn’t have such a great reading week thanks to my migraines and my erratic moods haven’t helped any. I had a fair few books going last week and ended up starting three more just yesterday but nothing is particularly jumping out at me. I’m continuing on with them in phases to see if one will stick! It was a pretty blog tour filled week and next week will be as well, and aside from that, not a bad blogging week overall! Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is upgrading my WordPress to get a custom URL. I feel like I should just do it but I’m hesitating because I don’t want to loose what I’ve built up here. Anyone have any experience with upgrading from free to premium on WP?

On that note, here’s what I posted this week, ICYMI:

Top 5 Saturday: Award Winning Books
Blog Tour Review: May Day by Josie Jaffrey
First Lines Friday: 18 September
Blog Tour Review: Hollow Road by Dan Fitzgerald
Blog Tour Review: The Beast and the Bethany by Jack Meggitt-Phillips

This is a track that I heard on a vlogger’s video and I am obsessed. It’s such a relaxing beat and I’ve listened to it on repeat more times than I care to count now. The original is even more soothing acoustic but this mix is *chefs kiss* and I’m gutted it’s not on Spotify! 😂

TRACK HIGHLIGHT

I hope you’ve all had a good weekend and that you have a great week ahead! Take care of yourselves and of each other, friends 🖤

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your migraines! Fingers crossed that this upcoming week gives you some reprieve ♥ Your bookshelves are so gorgeous! I stan fairy lights. I get what you mean about mixing sleep space with work space, it’s so hard to “turn off” after work when you’ve been working in the same place that you relax. Sending good vibes and love your way!!

  2. Sorry to hear that you’ve been in a bit of a fog. It’s totally understandable! I was working from home for about 3 months at the start of things and having to go back to the office, while kind of a pain and also scary, was also a huge relief in a lot of ways. It’s definitely hard to separate things when you have to do everything in the same space. Hope that you’ll feel better this week. ❤

  3. You won’t lose anything if you go premium. It should automatically link your new URL to it but it will also keep the one you currently have. I have TessaTalksBooks.blog and TessaTalksBooks.com as well as the free WordPress URL linked to mine (don’t ask). They all work and I haven’t lost anything or anyone ❤️ Hopefully no more migraines 🤞and definitely try to separate your workspace from your rest space – it does make a difference. Hoping you have a wonderful week!

  4. Oh my gosh, I totally need to read Gods of Jade and Shadow an do keep forgetting, so thanks for the reminder! Glad you’re enjoying it so far.

Sorry to hear about your migraines. They absolutely suck and I hope you feel better. Your shelves look gorgeous though! And while I have no experience at all with WP premium, since I went self hosted, I might be able to answer questions if you want to know anything specific if you message me!

The book sounds awesome too, its on my radar but I don’t have a copy yet (but I really want one).
I have like the cheapest subscription to WP and it was very easy, I just really felt great getting my own .com address. 😉
