#WWWWednesday: 18 December

Friends, we’re a little over halfway through the last month of 2019! How insane is that?! So it’s time for December’s second to last WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

Since last Wednesday I’ve read five books! My reviews for most of these are coming but see my mini-reviews below:

Darkdawn (Nevernight Chronicle #3) by Jay Kristoff ★★★★☆
I did it friends. I finally read the last book to one of my new favorite series and while it wasn’t everything that I wanted, it was still a super satisfying read. I was going to rate it 4.5 stars at first, but after sleeping on it I decided to keep it at 4 stars. Kristoff managed to bring all the elements together in a fast-paced and highly intense conclusion full of all the swearing, all the smut and all the #stabstabstab moments that you could ever want. All my burning questions were answered and overall, I was pretty satisfied with the ending. I know I said I’d write my review the day after finishing this read, but alas gentlefriends, I should’ve known my talents for procrastination better than that! It’s coming though…

Cold Feet at Christmas by Debbie Johnson ★★☆☆☆
My first Christmas romance that ended up not being half as festive as this deceptively cute cover portrayed it to be. It was also a pretty damn disappointing and more than a little annoying read. It started off REALLY strong and I was so here for the characters and I was excited to see how their story would play out, but it quickly went downhill after the first few chapters. I ended up face-palming myself more times than I could count and wanting to throw my Kindle across the room screaming “WHY?!” by the end of it… My Kindle thanks me for not doing that though! My review is going up tonight so if you want to hear me rant some more, be sure to read it! 😂

The Snowman (Harry Hole #7) by Jo Nesbø ★★★½
I finally picked this book up and I’m glad that I read my first book in the Harry Hole series by Nesbø. I think this was probably one of the more densely written crime thrillers that I’ve ever read, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing but it did slow me down a bit trying to get through all the information. None of the characters were very compelling except for Harry himself, and even he took some time to grow on me. It was a pretty satisfying conclusion that left no room for questions though as everything was very well explained! My review will be posted tomorrow so be on the look out.

All I Want for Christmas is You by Miranda Liasson (+Bonus: Christmas on Mistletoe Lane by Annie Rains) ★★☆☆☆
I was reluctant to continue my Christmas romance reading after that first disaster but I’m glad I gave these a shot because I really enjoyed both stories! They were heartwarming and definitely brought the festive vibes to the table and it was exactly what I was hoping to find in a holiday read! These two stories were full of fun and fluffy romance, family drama, holiday spirit, and not to mention DOGGOS (I mean, just look at that very good boi on the cover)! 😍 Reviews for both coming soon.

What are you currently reading?

I’m continuing on with Descendant of the Crane now and while I was really into it when I started, the pace has slowed down a bit and I haven’t been pulled to keep picking it up. I’m determined to finish it this week though! I also started Trophy Life today and it’s proving to be a pretty easy/fluffy read. I still want to improve my NetGalley score before the year ends and although it’s looking like 100% is more than impossible, I’m hoping to get it up to 80% (at least)! Fingers crossed that I got this 😅🤞🏽

What will you read next?

I don’t know what I want to read next. I have a few books that I still want to get to before the year ends and while I’ve managed to cross a few off the list already, there’s plenty more to go — especially the eARCs! But I think I’m in a weird fantasy/romance mood right now so I’m thinking that one of this small stack of five should satisfy that. We all know how good I’m sticking to any form of “TBR” though so who knows what I’ll actually pick up next! 🤣

What are you currently reading? How’s your week going?

  1. I started reading Jo Nesbo books a few years ago after I received one as a present but lost memento in keeping up with them as I borrowed the rest from the library and they were taking too long to arrive. Hoping to get back into them soon. But maybe I think I should tackle TBR shelves first🤔

    • Yeah, I feel like you have to be in the right mood to read Nesbo (or just thrillers in general really) but I found that it was quite densely written so if I’m not in the mood for it I would lose interest and momentum very quickly. I think tackling the TBR shelves first sounds like a grand plan, Mani 😉 Haha same for me!

  2. I’ve been kind of slow reading wise but I have too many books on loan from the library to be dragging my feet like I am! And I’m going to read Wicked King next, too! Can’t wait to see what Holly puts us through in it.

    • I totally feel you! My reading has slowed down incredibly. But I just picked up Wicked King last night actually 🤣 My strong dislike for Taryn is already growing and she’s just made her “first appearance” in the story. LOL

  3. I’m so glad that you finally finished Darkdawn. ❤ And that I'm not the only one who had issues with certain things in it haha. I feel so not alone now. You want to read Winterwood and The Bone Houses and then tell me if I should read them, because they both look really good. xD
