Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp [22]

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve been you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

Today finally saw me leaving the house after not even unlocking my front door yesterday? Yes, it was that kind of Saturday. BUT today I was really thinking about the book that I should be reading because I need to stop putting it off for my group read: The Orange of the Priory Tree by Samantha Shannon. Honestly? I think I’m really letting the INSANE thickness of the book get to me because every time I look at it, I am filled with dread at the thought of picking it up? I’ll be taking it to bed with me tonight though, after I write this post. I will. Really. I promise!

A world divided.
A queendom without an heir.
An ancient enemy awakens.

The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction—but assassins are getting closer to her door. Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic. Across the dark sea, Tané has trained all her life to be a dragonrider, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel. Meanwhile, the divided East and West refuse to parley, and forces of chaos are rising from their sleep.

What are you currently reading?

How is it already Sunday evening?! I’m really gutted the weekend is already over and I dread the thought of going back to work tomorrow. I think that might be a sign that it’s time to look for something different soon? I know a lot of my dread has to do with my mental health and how I just feel consistently drained every day, even if I don’t do much, and it’s such a struggle to get out of bed every morning… But this weekend has been pretty low-key. I literally spent Saturday inside and sprawled on my couch. I finished Godsgrave on Saturday morning (5:30am to be exact!) and ugh, this series has absolutely SLAIN me. I am equal parts terrified and excited to pick up Darkdawn. How will this series end and most importantly: will my feels be ready for even MORE slaying!? Stay tuned, folks. I decided I needed a palate cleanser before starting on Priory, so…I ended up finishing two contemporary romances 😬 Despite the extremely minimal movement, my Saturday was pretty productive?

Sunday saw me spending the whole day outside. I helped my friend set up her ‘stall’ at a pop-up art market (check out her work because she’s amazing)! After working hard hammering tacks into a board and setting up, it was a pretty chill day full of coffee, people watching, smiling at strangers (lol not creepily), watching artists paint, and listening to some fantastic chilled tunes. It’s days like today that make me glad I push myself out of my ‘comfort zone’ of staying home all day. Even though I didn’t talk to a lot of people, it was still me getting out of the house!

Reading & Blogging Recap

I think I had a decent good reading and blogging week? I managed to finish five books this week, although one was a very short graphic novel, but I think five is pretty much be average for me! Obviously my favorite read this week was Godsgrave, and I’ll be posting my review tomorrow, so stay tuned 😍I’m really hoping to get into Priory when I pick it up in bed tonight. I am already falling behind on the group read, I’m just very intimidated by this book and I’m quite worried I won’t like it. BUT I don’t want to psyche myself out of reading it before I even properly try, so I’ll just say that I hope to be pleasantly surprised! On that note, check out a recap of my posts this week, in case you missed any:

Friday Favorites: Unfinished Series! (I felt so attacked… lol)

Also, I leave you with this gem of a song that I can’t get out of my head. Sabrina Claudio’s voice is luscious. I feel like I could drown in it. Her music is so chilled and a little sensual (her voice tho), but so so nice to relax to. It was definitely my vibe today. Have a fabulous and relaxed Sunday, friends!

How has your week been? Hope everyone has/had a great weekend and I hope your week ahead is WONDERFUL! Let me know how you’re doing in the comments and let’s chat, friends 🙂

  1. I’m bitter because there is an ARC of Toll less than 3 miles from me in a horrid little bookstore.

    Otherwise I’m ok.

Ok let me end on something positive. It is not 100 degrees in St. Louis and that is a miracle!

    • Omg, wait, what?! REALLY?! 😲
Glad to hear that you’re OK otherwise though and that it’s not so hot anymore! That’s pretty much the temp here + humidity in a couple of months because of the Australian summer winds blowing up. I’m SO not keen for it 🙈

      • YES AND I’M PISSED/BITTER and a bunch of other words I won’t use here. There are many layers to this situation. Things I can’t get into here. Just… ALL THE THINGS. Beyond them having a copy of Toll. I called my mother raving for like an hour. She was like… when are you moving to Colorado again because I really think St. Louis kinda become Toxic. And I was just like yeah well maybe if someone could just be nice to me and give me a break… but you know… what. ever.

Yes I’m *ok* otherwise. I had a really good meeting yesterday morning. I really do St. Louis to figure out it is fall and not summer. lol. I hope the weather shifts for both of us!!!!! Its funny to because as far as St. Louis weather goes? It was not a bad summer at all. Lots of rain but heat wise it wasn’t bad. But now that its fall– hello 3 digit temperatures. Bleh. lol

  2. I feel you Dini! Committing to a book as chunky as priory is definitely hard. In fact I think committing to a TBR in general is hard ergo I just read according to my mood. But hopefully your fellow buddy readers will help to spur you on rather than let you get too much in your head. Honestly I thought priory was quite an easy book to read despite its length. It’s not that confusing, not too heavy on the info dumping etc etc. So hopefully you’ll find that motivation but if you don’t then dump it for a later time. Life is too short to feel stressed about books. Books should make us feel good not psyche us out. Much love my friend :)))) <333

    • I’m so much of a mood reader too but I totally agree, books shouldn’t stress us out! LOL I think I’m going to lock myself in after work over the next few days to catch up with the rest of the group coz they’re MILES ahead of me since I kept putting it off 🙈I tried to read during lunch today but then everyone kept coming to find and interrupt me LOL fail. I caved and bought the e-book last night though because my arms were getting a freaking work out holding that chunkster up! Hahaha 😂I think once I get into it I’ll be fine! Thanks, Emer! Hope you have a lovely week ahead 🥰

  3. The art fair sounds like a lot of fun! I always enjoy things like that too, there’s something about art and music and being outside. 🙂

The weekends go by WAY too fast. It’s not right haha. And good luck with Priory- hope it’s as good as it looks!!

    • I ended up having a great time at the art fair, actually! It was just nice to people watch and listen to good music! Lol there’s definitely something about the vibe of all of it that makes it great! We should have like extra hours to tack on to our weekends haha if only though eh!
Thanks Greg! I’m trying to get into it, hopefully this week it happens for me. It’s just so freaking big and I’m too easily intimidated 😅

    • I caved and bought the e-book yesterday and honestly, it makes such a huge difference. Haha I not only don’t have to stare down the beast every time I pick it up, but my arms don’t get jelly-like from holding it up for ages 😂

    • Weekends really are never long enough, even when they’re long weekends, and I feel like I’ll forever moan about it 😂 I’m pretty sure that if I dropped this book on my face it’d give me a bloody nose. Definitely good to keep by the bedside as a weapon! Haha

    • I know what you mean! I’ve been so distracted by everything else since starting it so I haven’t really got into it yet. Still early days though, hopefully this week I’ll be able to get lost in it 🤞🏽
