TL;DR: Juniper Harvey was such a treat to read and while I think it’s perfect for all ages, I think it’s especially perfect for middle-grade readers who love magic, adventure, myth, and good friends. The story starts off a little slowly as we get to learn about June but it doesn’t take long for the action to start and it continues all the way to the end! I really enjoyed the unravelling of the mystery and the truth behind the dreams, the magic, and of course, the friendships that were made along the way. I would also recommend this to anyone who’s interested in stories about powerful and vengeful gods!

But really, how good does this book sound? I’m still in the process of reading this right now and I’m looking forward to diving back in (y’know when my job stops murdering me 😭) and giving it my full attention ASAP because I’m loving the mix of dark mystery and saints blessed magic. Something really sinister is going on and I can’t wait to find out what it is!

Spontaneous Hiatus

Sorry to anyone reading this absolute moan of a post, I just need to let my feelings out!

This post isn’t really book related but it’s me announcing a spontaneous hiatus for at least this week and depending on how next week goes, maybe another week, too. Work is really affecting me and I have no capacity to think of anything else right now. I’m so fucking exhausted and feeling incredibly hopeless and I hate it. I know it’s just this phase of work I’m in right now, but I feel so unsupported by the people I need the most support from even after continuously voicing my concerns.

Not to sound dramatic but today was a day that had me trying to hold back tears as I discussed with colleagues this annual report that I barely understand what I’m doing with anymore—completely smashing what little I understood of it to begin with.

I barely held back the tears on the long and seemingly endless journey home this evening while simultaneously trying to avoid having a full-blown panic-fueled anxiety attack.

And it finally ended with me being unable to hold back my tears when I got home and made it into the shower, all throughout dinner, and as I continued to figure out what the hell I need to do to get this thing done by the deadline next week.

I am so so so incredibly exhausted. I just want to keep crying. And I hate that it’s making every moment miserable and affecting my reading because my brain just can’t compute.

I’ll be wrapping up my Sunday in bed still reading Seven Faceless Saints by M.K. Lobb. I’m only about 7% in but I’m definitely intrigued by what’s happening—it’s giving me a combo of Nevernight and Wicked Saints vibes and I’m hoping that the execution of the story will be good!

TL;DR: This dual-pov second-chance romance was a delightful slow-burn as Beckett and Evie learn more about each other but also about themselves. Beckett is absolutely the perfect book boyfriend and that plant-daddy really had me swooning! If you loved him in the first book with his kittens, then you’ll definitely love him more now because not only do we get to see him with more animals, we get to see him come out of his shell in full simphood glory! It was swoontastic! 😍 This was a great second book in this series and I can’t wait to continue on to the next.

Monthly Wrap-Up: January 2023

Well, I don’t know about you but to me, January simultaneously felt like it would never end and like it passed way too quickly for my liking. This was the month I started my “new” job, returned to work 4 of 5 days in the office, and felt a ridiculous level of stress and pressure that I haven’t felt in quite some time. It has been both good and bad and although it’s gotten slightly better and I’m slowly finding my feet, it’s been a lot to adjust to!

With my first chunky new paycheck I decided to indulge in new tech and invested in my first ever tablet—the 5th Gen iPad Air and of course, I got it in the colour purple! 💜 I think 2023 is fast becoming the year I take my favourite colour and make it into my whole aesthetic and I’m not mad about it at all.
