Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday, I’ve finshed 4 books. This is probably the most I’ve read in a week in ages so I’m quite proud of myself! 😊

Swordheart (Swordheart #1) by T. Kingfisher ★★★★½
And no one is surprised that I absolutely adored this book! It took me ages to read it but that’s definitely down to my volatile reading moods as of late (and gaming—definitely blaming gaming). But of course, I loved Halla and Sarkis, Zale and Brindle. Loved meeting the new characters and reconnecting with the old (and by that I mean I first met them in The Saint of Steel series).
Sunday’s Best by Bailey Hannah ★★★★☆
For a little novella, for the angst and pining, for the heat, I would say this was a pretty fun sexy romance. It does feature tropes that I’m not normally into so I was a little nervous going in, but honestly, everyone got what they deserved and I’ll leave it at that! I’m definitely more curious about this author’s books now—they’ve been on my radar for a little while but I’ve never really heard anyone talking about them. If they’re anything like this novella though, I think I’ll enjoy them!
Never After by Alexis Hall ★★★★★
I’m a person that’s often deep in my feels and that translates to when I’m reading too, so naturally, I’m a very “emotional” reader. This absolutely gutted me. Alexis Hall took some emotional claws, raked it through my chest, and dug around a little bit before retracting said claws. Holy granola, the way this had me ugly crying at 3am on a Wednesday. It hurt so good! Again, while the romance is a huge part of the story, this isn’t a romance. It’s gut wrenching, heartbreaking, so deeply vulnerable, and gorgeously written. It is also narrated incredibly by Steve West and, if you enjoy audiobooks and are curious about this book, I would 1000% recommend doing the audio. His performance is stellar and probably made me love this even more!
In the Labyrinth of Drakes (The Memoirs of Lady Trent #4) by Marie Brennan ★★★★¼
I’m not sure what to rate this yet, but I’m sticking with this for now. This was the shortest book of the series but probably the one I most wanted more of! As always, there’s so much that happens and it was so fantastic being back with Isabella and Tom. There was some delightful pining and angst in this that I thoroughly enjoyed! I also loved that we got to spend time with the brother that Isabella actually enjoys spending time with. He was such a welcome addition to the crew! As a group, Leslie, Charlotte, Veros and I discussed how it gave us The Mummy vibes—from setting, characters and banter, action, and discoveries—and I think it’s such an apt comparison! We’re all very sad that there’s only one more book to go before we reach the end… 😭

I’ve only got one read on at the minute!

The Unbroken (The Magic of the Lost #1) by C. L. Clark ⇢ (64%)
I’m buddy reading this with Becky and we’re having very mixed feelings about it. We’ve talked over it quite a bit and it seems like everything just skims the surface, so we don’t get the depth needed to connect with and care for these characters. I love that the MCs are so incredibly complex, but also, they are so frustratingly indecisive I want to give both a good hard shake. 😂 Their actions make them come across much younger than they are!

Not sure where the mood will take me!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

Our Wives Under the Sea has been one of my favorite reads this year! If the mood takes you that way, I hope that you enjoy it!

Hmm, okay, you’ve convinced me that maybe I should give it a go. It seems like a book that I could binge over the weekend even? 🤔 I’ve heard lots of good things about it!

You could certainly binge it over the weekend! It was beautifully written and hard to put down for me.

I’m currently reading 2 books, unusually for me.
Dreams of Bronze by Camilla Lackberg which is a library borrow.
Hope for the Best by Jodi Taylor.
I like to keep my daily reading stats going on my kindle. Lol
In the last week I finished 🥁
1 Badass Alien Boss by Cara Bristol
2 Anna and the Alien by Honey Phillips
3 And the Rest is History by Jodi Taylor
4 An Argumentation of Historians by Jodi Taylor
Up next will probably be a few more St Mary’s Chronicles, plus a new Honey Phillips at the end of the week

Yay! Are you listening to the audiobooks still too?

Not me! I don’t do audiobooks!

Oops, I thought that was you who turned to the audiobook to see if you’d get into it more. I guess I must’ve recalled someone else who was initially struggling to get into the series. My bad! 🤭

You SHOULD be proud, you did soooo well, congrats!
I do not see any Kingfisher book in your next reads, that is weird😂
I am also not sure what I’ll read next. I’m in a romance streak but I want to add a light fantasy read and I cannot come up with anything. Hope you have fun with whatever you pick!

Hahaha, it is weird, isn’t it!? I’m telling myself to wait to get my hands on a physical copy of the newest Kingfisher before I continue reading her books. So I guess I’m giving myself a break! 🤭
Yay for being on a romance streak! I’m a bit sad that I haven’t been in the mood for one of those in a really long time. I’ve got so many romances on my TBR but the mood just hasn’t stuck yet. I hope that you enjoy whatever you pick up next, Anna! 💜

Now it makes more sense! I know you really enjoy her stories so I was a bit surprised, but of course, there are also other books.
I think it’s because I am easing back into it and since my reading time has been a bit unpredictable, even if I have more of it, romances are easier to get back into than fantasies, though I am craving light and cozy fantasies as well, I just do not know many so I haven’t started.
Well, if you need a push to read a romance, just let me know! But again, if that’s not what you’re craving, just go with what you feel, you’re reading a lot of cool books lately! Have fun with your picks!💜

So glad you enjoyed Swordheart! I’m hoping our opinions will change on The Unbroken by the end… once we both get back into it anyway. Enjoy your reads 🙂

I feel like maybe the author’s trying to do too much and not giving enough? 🤔 I want to be more positive about it, but… We’ll chat. I’ve got major mixed feelings, haha

I’m so glad you loved Swordheart! I’m counting down the days until I can get my hands on the next book!

Me too! Now I’m struggling to wait to get my hands on the physical book because I know it’ll take a hot minute until it lands in Indonesia (if it does). But I also want the physical copy cos the covers are so pretty 🥹 That and I just don’t need to be spending more on double copies…. RIGHT!? …Right. The struggle do be real as a book lover. 🫠

Almost six months since I’ve read it, and Never After is still sticking with me. It gutted me. Maybe someday I’ll be okay enough to do a reread via audiobook.

Oh my goodness, I did not expect that it’d sucker punch me so hard in the feels, but I respected and loved it 😭 It just hurt so good!!! The audiobook really is top tier (+it was my first romance audio with steamy bits too, so that was interesting!) and I’d highly recommend it, although I do get holding off due to emotional damage! 😂

Ooooh, I actually just started the Lady Trent memoir series a couple of weeks ago and am almost finished with the first book. I’m planning on writing a review for it as there’s some bits I really love about it and some bits that have really niggled at me xD

Ooh, I’ll keep an eye out for that review! I’ve absolutely adored this series (the third book is my fave) even though I know they’re not perfect, and there are bits I always want more of at the end of each. I’ve still had a great time with them though, so if you continue with the series, I hope you enjoy the rest of them too!

I’ve never heard of Never After before but now I’m curious (since I do love a good doomed/tragic romance….)
