Prompts: Do you own a lot of books? Do you think of yourself as a book collector? Outside of reading, do you have any other hobbies that involve collecting things? What would you love to have a collection of?

Do you own a lot of books?

Not beating around the bush on this one because yes, I do have a lot of books. Just the other day, I actually finished cataloguing all of my physical books and maybe a handful of my digital books (which far exceed the physical copies I have). Barring a few that I may have somehow missed, my library currently stands at 877 books. I could call myself out and share the percentage of read vs. unread books, but that’s definitely not what we’re here to talk about! 👀

Do you see yourself as a book collector?

Yes, as much as I’m an avid reader, I also consider myself an avid book collector! I mean, I know we didn’t talk about how many books I haven’t read yet on my shelves, but let’s just say it’s a lot. I know I’m probably not gonna be able to get to all these books in my lifetime, but one of my dreams has always been to have my own at-home library room, so that’s what these books are for! Does that sound like an excuse to justify all the money I spend on books? 🤭 I swear it’s not! I really hope to one day turn one of the rooms in my house into a floor-to-almost-ceiling library, and I’m excited that I’m well on my way to making at least the bookish part of that dream a reality! 😂

Outside of reading, do you have any other hobbies that involve collecting things?

For years, my answer to this has been no, but actually, I guess you could say I’m a collector of Pop Mart plushies and all things panda-related! If my handle isn’t obvious enough, I love pandas but never had many panda-related items to show for it. That has changed over the past year, mainly because it’s so easy to find panda items these days! My Pop Mart plushie fascination started with my cousin buying a Labubu when we were in Japan last year, and it has kinda snowballed from there. I used to only be into the keychain plushies, but I’ve also got a few figurines now. My favourites are: Hirono, Hacipupu, Skullpanda, and then of course, Labubu. 🤭

What would you love to have a collection of?

I’d love to have complete collections of all of these figures and plushies, but I just don’t have the space for it (right now). My room already slightly resembles a hoarder’s space because of the book stacks currently spread out haphazardly. My brain doesn’t like cluttered space,s but it seems that despite my best intentions, I always end up surrounded by lots of stuff. Oops. 🤣 Maybe one day I will find a clean balance, haha.

  1. I have loads of books but don’t think that I’m a book collector and I think you’ve summed up why. I think that maybe book collectors collect books without necessarily with the intention of reading them. I generally only buy books that I intend to read. I do have a few unread books at the moment but that’s really unusual for me.
I love your collections especially the pandas.

    • You know, I feel like I always buy books with the intention to read them, but a part of me feels resigned to the knowledge that I probably won’t get to all of the books that I want to read in this lifetime. 😂 There are just too many that I want to read and the list keeps growing with every year that passes. I feel like maybe I should slow down on the collecting until I acquire more shelf space, but this is also my biggest indulgence and I think I’m okay with that. 🤭 I do admire people who have small owned TBRs and who read all the books they buy immediately. Sometimes I do wish that could be me, haha. 😅 And thank you—I love my plushies and pandas too! 😍

  2. They’re all so cute!! I collect anything with the legend of zelda or a dachshund on it.

Woah.. I have maybe a good 60-ish books, if that? And yet while I keep dreaming i’m in-between houses (current & where im from) dream-me keep being like “my boooks!!! Bring them all!” .. can’t imagine brigning along such a big collection 😆
That being said; my godmother has an old house and have books EVERYWHERE! Truly magical. (In the kitchen, in the living room, desk upstairs, stair landing, her bedroom..)

  3. Awww yey to another book hoarder hahah I love the plushies and figurines! The photos are great. I missed the bit of what I would like to collect more of: art prints or postcards but very specific ones that are painted or drawn 🙂

  4. I do not own a lot of books. I used to, but now as I read them, I donate them or give them away. I also purged all books that I had already read. I pretty much read ebooks or listen to audiobooks now, so very few physical books. I do collect a couple of things, or at least have collections that I admire, but no longer add to. I love Hummel figurines, but have stopped buying them. I used to collect spoons from places I went, but again, I have stopped collecting them, just displaying the ones I already have. I now collect a Christmas Ornament from places I visit and have a small tree that I decorate with those ornaments.
