#WWWWednesday: 7 January 2026

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

It’s been close to a month since I’ve done one of these but I actually haven’t been reading all that much over the past three weeks so I thought I’d squeeze in all those books as well. 🤭 Since last week specifically though, I’ve finished three books.

Traitor’s Blade (The Greatcoats #1) by Sebastien De Castell ★★★★☆
I was having trouble figuring out what to read so I let a random number generator pick for me and this was what I got. It seems that old fantasies are working well for me at the moment! This was an epic political fantasy set in a brutally cutthroat world. I (mostly) liked Falcio as our main POV but sometimes the violence and evilness of the villains felt gratuitous and the humour a little bit try hard? 😬 I don’t know, something about it stopped me from fully connecting emotionally but I’m keen to see what happens next cos there were some good twists at the end!

A Tempest of Ravens (The Noble Exiles #1) by E.A. Bard ★★★½
I’m sad I didn’t love this as much as I thought I would… While there were enjoyable moments as the story progressed—particularly the historical context and atmosphere—the uneven pacing, repetitiveness, and a lack of connection to the characters, left me wanting more.

The Nanny by Lana Ferguson ★★★½
I don’t know what made me pick this up specifically but it’s been on my TBR for years. It was… fine? I really liked Cassie’s relationship with Sophie and how she wins the young girl over. I liked that she was good at understanding people (like Sophie’s aunt) and getting them to let their guards down (positively). It was a bit frustrating that Cassie and Aiden weren’t better at communicating though. They were just very horny for each other, lol. Which was fine? But I just wished they talked more!

Royal Assassin (The Farseer Trilogy #2) by Robin Hobb ★★★★☆
It took me over a month to read this but wow, what a journey! Fitz goes through so much and it was absolutely heartbreaking and gut-wrenching following him on this journey. I’m not a violent person but boy did I want to get violent with (who I’m guessing is) the penultimate villain of this trilogy (I hope). I cannot wait to see what happens in book 3…

In A Second (Friendship, Rhode Island #3) by Kate Canterbary ★★★★½
Ah, Canterbary so rarely gets it wrong and always serves such a freaking good time. I loved this second-chance single parent romance. The angst, the pining, the sexual tension. Jude and Audrey were amazing together and with Percy and Bagel, the hound. 🥹 I loved it!

I’m meant to be re-reading Dungeon Crawler Carl right now with the group read and I’m making slow progress on it because my mood has just not been there… I should also be reading an ARC that’s being published on 20 January (Better the Devil), but I’m also thinking about these other two titles… I’m gonna try the first chapter or something of each book and see what hooks me!

I don’t know what my mood is in the mood for 😂 I’ll wing it!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. I love Paladin’s Grace especially if you’re in the mood for something a bit lighter but still fantasy. I reread the first two in the Farseer trilogy and meant to read the third but I never got round to it. It’s so long for one thing and also, the books feel very dark to me and I never felt quite in the right mood. Maybe this year😃

  2. I’m currently reading A Turn of the Tide by Kelley Armstrong

In the last week I read 🥁
1 Alien Instinct by Cara Bristol.
2 Snowstorms and Sleigh Bells by Kelley Armstrong.
3 The Poisoner’s Ring by Kelley Armstrong.
4 Cocktails and Chloroform by Kelley Armstrong.

Probably more Kelley Armstrong next, as I’ve had most of these 2 series for ages. I’ve got a kobo+ subscription for the few remaining, so it will be these next, plus maybe a few others to cover the cost!
The new Christine Feehan is awaiting too
