#WWWWednesday: 5 November 2025

Leslie and I are planning a group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl starting in January 2026! Find more details on Leslie’s page or at the end of this post!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I managed to finish 2 books and I thoroughly enjoyed both. One is even a contender for top 3 favourite of the year!

A Worthy Opponent by Katee Robert, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones

A Worthy Opponent (Wicked Villains #2) by Katee Robert ★★★☆☆
It’s been years since I’ve read Katee Robert but I’m still subscribed to their newsletter, so I saw when she announced that the Wicked Villains series was now on KU for the first time ever. I remember reading the first book way back when and found the wicked twist intriguing. I liked this Hook x Tink romance where Peter plays the villain, but I wanted so much more character and relationship growth—although I loved Hook! I think this does lean more towards erotica, and although I can’t speak to it, from what I’ve heard (and what I’ve read) I think Robert explores BDSM and D/s dynamics well. At less than 300 pages there’s only so much development we can get, but I wanted so much more of it!

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones ★★★★★
If you told me at the start of the year that a literary horror would be a contender for one of my top 3 or 5 reads of the year, I never would’ve believed you. Yet, here we are and this book is a very strong contender. It was so thoughtful, well-written, and deeply and painfully emotional. It’s an exploration of America’s brutal and bloody history, as well as the peoples, histories, and cultures the “birthing of this new nation” erased along the way. There was so much deep seething rage in these pages and rightfully so. I’m not ashamed to admit I cried big uglies when I read the last line! 😮‍💨 I loved reading and discussing this with Charlotte and best believe I will be reading more of SGJ’s backlist (hopefully, there are more with this level of horror that I can handle, lol). Ugh, ALL THE STARS AND FEELS!

  • The Midnight Shift42% ⇢ This is my current morning commute read and I’ve made more progress than I thought as I only started it yesterday. It’s a fairly straightforward/easy read but I’m not finding it particularly engaging at the moment? It’s fine, it just feels very emotionally flat.

  • The Last Devil to Die23% ⇢ Leslie and I are continuing our buddy read of the TMC series! This one already had me crying at Ch16 and Leslie said I shouldn’t read this in public, which is why I’ve been keeping it for my pre-bedtime reading. Sadly, it’s been so busy I just haven’t had time to read before bed! 😭 I missed this crew. They are so wholesome and hilarious and just… Ugh, all the feels!

  • I Killed the King61% ⇢ I actually started this last month and… I’m still reading it. I haven’t been paying it as much attention as I probably should considering it was an ARC. It was a bit tough to get into and there are some plot holes and confusing bits, but also interesting surprises that I didn’t see coming (yet also have me wondering where it’s all leading). Lots of twisty turns here!

I’ve got my buddy read with Leslie for the next Osman book, but I’m mostly going with my mood (as usual)!

Join our group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl in January!

Even before we finished the seventh book in September, we already knew we wanted to do a bigger re-read of the series in the lead up to the eighth book coming out in 2026! We also figured this would be really fun reading in a bigger group, so that’s what we’re doing! We’ll start in January and read roughly 1 book per month to prepare for the release of the next book later in the year! We’re hosting it on instagram so leave a comment below or message me or Leslie on Instagram if you’d like to join.
GET EXCITED, CRAWLERS! 🧨

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. I still have yet to read Katee Roberts even though I have the first 3 books in the dark Olympic (?) series. I know, I really should. I’m glad I stopped myself from buying more before I read anything of hers since I’ve no idea if I even like her writing style. 😂
