#WWWWednesday: 29 October 2025

Leslie and I are planning a group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl starting in January 2026! Find more details on Leslie’s page or at the end of this post!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I managed to finish two books and I thoroughly enjoyed both. One is even a contender for my October favourite!

The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan, A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

The Tropic of Serpents (The Memoirs of Lady Trent #2) by Marie Brennan ★★★★☆
I loved this group buddy read with Charlotte, Leslie and Veros (and so thankful they let me jump in on it)! 💜 This was so different from what I expected, mostly because I thought there’d be more dragons, but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. It was interesting to see how Isabella’s influence and mark extended beyond the study of dragons, and I enjoyed seeing the impact through her interactions with the various local communities she ends up working and living with. No spoilers, but I didn’t expect the role she would have in this particular war but it was so awesome and proves just how much of a baddie she is! 🤭 I also loved her relationships with Natalie and Thomas, especially how the one with the latter evolved over the course of their journey together. They’ve come a long way!

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman ★★★★★
I’m so pleased to say that I’ve finally read my first Backman book and I couldn’t be happier that it was this one. Oof, the ugly tears I shed for this one. It’s an equally heartbreaking and heartwarming story that will infuse you with all the feels! It’s a wonderful story about family, love, loss, loneliness, and friendship. While you may have read tearjerkers featuring ornery old men with kind hearts buried underneath all that grump, you haven’t read Ove’s story, so if it’s still on your TBR, I would highly recommend reading it!

I’m still kind of all over the place with my reading mood. Since I finished Gilded Heiress this morning, I haven’t picked up anything new, I’ve just continued with one of my group buddy reads.

  • The Buffalo Hunter Hunter53% ⇢ I’m buddy reading this with Charlotte and loving it so much! This is my first book by SGJ but if this is the kind of horror he writes, then he’s definitely got a new fan in me. It’s horror but of the very human variety. It’s horrific, gruesome, brutal, and infuriating. Frankly, I’m mildly obsessed with Good Stab’s story and I’m eager to see how it continues to entwine with Beaucarne’s. This is such an engrossing read and I’m loathe to put it down every time (ugh, work getting in the way of my enjoyment, lol)—I just want to binge it!
  • Jade City48% ⇢ I admit to not having picked this up in… A while. I’m doing a fantastic job of avoiding the heartache I know is coming… I fear I gotta just suck it up and get it over with—this weekend! 🤭
  • Lady’s Knight6% ⇢ Maybe I’ll pick this up again soon… (It didn’t happen (again))

I’ve got my buddy read with Leslie for the next Osman book, but I’m mostly going with my mood (as usual)!

Join our group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl in January!

Even before we finished the seventh book in September, we already knew we wanted to do a bigger re-read of the series in the lead up to the eighth book coming out in 2026! We also figured this would be really fun reading in a bigger group, so that’s what we’re doing! We’ll start in January and read roughly 1 book per month to prepare for the release of the next book later in the year! We’re hosting it on instagram so leave a comment below or message me or Leslie on Instagram if you’d like to join.
GET EXCITED, CRAWLERS! 🧨

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  2. I just finished The Echo of Lost books by Barbara Davis and I loved it.

I am currently not reading anything because I read 21 books this month and now I am taking a well deserved break.

I still have a few books on my TBR for the month. Misplaced Magic and The Forgotten Witch which are in the same series as the Book of Lost Enchantments which I accidentally read out of order. I am not 100% committed to reading them though as I have a few arcs to get through.

  3. I’m so happy you’re loving the Lady Trent series so far! One of my all-time favourites.

I have absolutely failed at joining the Jade City group read… Maybe I’ll catch up soon…

  4. I’m so happy that you finally read A Man Called Ove. I loved that book and have watched both movies (the one made in Sweden with subtitles, and US starring Tom Hanks). I think I loved it so much because he reminded me of my husband. 😁

  5. I’m SO glad you’re enjoying Buffalo Hunter Hunter, it’s definitely my kind of horror and I can’t wait for you to get to the end. I finally bucked up and read past that part in Jade City, it was just as bad as I remembered lol, but I forgot how much the story picked up pace after it.
