#WWWWednesday: 22 October 2025

Leslie and I are planning a group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl starting in January 2026! Find more details on Leslie’s page or at the end of this post!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I managed to finish 3 books and they were all romances!

(ARC) Temping is Hell (Necessary Evil #1) by Cathy Yardley ★★★★☆
I was so excited when I got the ARC for the new Cathy Yardley paranormal romance! It’s not her usual genre but I have to say that it was still as enjoyable as her contemporaries. Main difference is that it was completely bonkers but in the best way. It’s over-the-top, hilarious, and quirky and I really enjoyed meeting Kate and Thomas. Kate was an absolute riot with her no filter chaotic good vibes! I only got sad that it was over and who knows how long we have to wait until the next one! 🫣

The Earl That Got Away (Sirens in Silk #2) by Diana Quincy ★★★★½
I thought this was a great Persuasion retelling ft. a Palestinian-American FMC and an British MMC who unexpected becomes an Earl! The yearning combined with a wild mix of other emotions was so freaking good! I loved the slow burn and seeing these two contend with their hurt, anger, guilt, and oh so much longing… These characters were written with such heart, especially Naila who I found particularly relatable, but I also loved Hawkthorn and how much he grew. I sure hope there’ll be another book in this standalone series because I don’t want it to be over!

The Gilded Heiress by Joanna Shupe ★★★★☆
I picked this up the minute I heard that this was a spicy Anastasia retelling and I think Shupe got it pretty spot on. I don’t think I’ve read (m)any romances set in the Gilded Age, so I found the setting unique, and I liked how easy it was to picture the scenes playing out like a movie before me. Leo is so jaded and while Josie isn’t an “innocent” per se, her do-good heart and innocent charm was a good contrast. I wish that certain aspects of their personalities/stories had been explored in more depth, but overall, this was a fun and sexy retelling!

I’m still kind of all over the place with my reading mood. Since I finished Gilded Heiress this morning, I haven’t picked up anything new, I’ve just continued with one of my group buddy reads.

  • The Tropic of Serpents57% ⇢ Time is passing much differently in this book compared to the first, and I think it’s making the story go much faster! I do miss hearing all the smaller details, but I think it fits how things have changed, especially Isabella’s role. I will say if you don’t like bugs, certain parts will make you squeamish (like it did me, ugh, I can still feel it, lol!) but thankfully, we haven’t been overloaded with those moments.
  • Jade City48% ⇢ It’s actually been a minute since I picked this book up. I’m scared because I know what part is coming next and I don’t want to be in public while reading it because I ugly cry every single time. I don’t expect this third time to be any different! 🤭
  • A Man Called Ove40% ⇢ I haven’t made any progress on this yet as I want to binge it in one go. Let’s hope this weekend calls for it!
  • Lady’s Knight6% ⇢ Maybe I’ll pick this up again soon…

I’m really going with my mood.

Join our group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl in January!

Even before we finished the seventh book in September, we already knew we wanted to do a bigger re-read of the series in the lead up to the eighth book coming out in 2026! We also figured this would be really fun reading in a bigger group, so that’s what we’re doing! We’ll start in January and read roughly 1 book per month to prepare for the release of the next book later in the year! We’re hosting it on instagram so leave a comment below or message me or Leslie on Instagram if you’d like to join.
GET EXCITED, CRAWLERS! 🧨

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  5. Oooh I love the sound of The Earl that Got Away, that one’s going straight on my TBR. I’m about the same % through Jade City as you and I’m blaming my current read (Witchlight) on why I haven’t picked it up again, but really it’s because I know what’s coming and I don’t want to go through it again lol. I hope you enjoy all your reads 🙂
