#TopTenTuesday: Oh, the Villainy!

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is: Villains (favorite, best, worst, lovable, creepiest, most evil, etc.))

I almost went rogue today because of course, the minute we’re asked to recall something so specific, my brain thinks we haven’t read any books with villains at all. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It took a bit of time for me to come up with this list, I’ve repeated some authors but I do think they write fantastic villains! Also, I realised that naming some of the villains in these books might be spoiler-y so, while I’ve named a few, I’m mostly just listing the book titles. This list is a combination of my favourite villains, the most heartbreaking, and ones that have stuck out most recently. I know there are probably lots more that I can’t think of at the moment, but this is what we’ve got!

HOLLAND — Shades of Magic Series by V.E. Schwab
AYT MADA — The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee
THE GODS — The Goddess of Nothing at All by Cat Rector
ELI & VICTOR — Villains Series by V.E. Schwab
Read it and BAWL — The Poppy War Series by R.F. Kuang

The Will Darling Adventures Series by KJ Charles
The Sixth World Series by Rebecca Roanhorse
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
The Bridge Kingdom Series by Danielle L. Jensen
Sands of Arawiya Duology by Hafsah Faizal

Have you met any of these villains or are their stories still on your TBR? Who are your favourite villains (if you have any)?

  1. I *did* go rogue this week, for exactly the brain freeze reason! XD You did a great job here through, with a couple I’d never have thought of but are brilliant (terrible?) villains. I love the entire “the gods” on The Goddess of Nothing at All, and I enjoyed the reveal in Slippery Creatures.

  2. The fact that I haven’t read any of these… I do have some on my TBR, like both Schwab series. And it was great of you to not add the names of the villains in some of them, for sometimes it is more gutting when you are not expecting who the villain is.

  3. You picked so many good ones, Dini! I had total brain freeze when I started my post. I could only think of one villain – President Snow from The Hunger Games. lol It was a struggle, too, because I didn’t want to give any spoilers.

  4. I love a good villian so the fact that all of these books have good ones makes me even more excited to get to them. I agree that Holland in the  ADSOM series was superb and I can’t believe I haven’t gotten to Vicious or the Jade books yet 🙈 im very intrigued to see Trail Of Lightning listed here too! I loved Black Sun by the author but somehow haven’t tried that one yet, despite owning it. Now I have an extra reason to check it out. Great list.

    • Holland really is superior. He’s just… such a good villain and I can’t believe Schwab managed to make me feel for him by the end of this series! UGH. I LOVED IT! 🤣 I almost added Black Sun on my list as well I wanted to mix it up a little more. 🤭 Trail of Lightning was so good, it’s just upsetting that the series will never be finished at this point, lol.

      • Its always good when an author can make your feelings do a U turn like that. Yes I’ve noticed that there never seems to be an update about the last two books. I guess thats one reason I keep putting off getting to it. Although I really should when I have the first two sat on my shelves 🙈
