This week’s topic is:
In Which Season Do You Do Your Best Reading?
Suggested by: Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly
Prompts: Is there a month, quarter or other specific time of year when you do your most reading and why do you think that is? Does this tend to fluctuate every year or is your reading pretty ‘steady’?

Is there a month, quarter, or other specific time of year when you do your most reading? Why do you think that is?
This is something that I’ve low-key been thinking about for a while now because this year has been so different to my “usual” yearly reading routine over the past few years. In 2025, the time when I’d normally read the most and when my reading usually starts to “drop” seems to have flipped. Most years prior to this, I would do my best reading at the start of the year. For the first three months, I’d be smashing those bookish goals and I’d basically be kicking off my reading year with a massive bang! 💥 I also tend to get a bit slump-y around May-August, and at this point in the year, I would notice my reading start to steady slow down until around December.
That hasn’t been the case in 2025. My reading year got off to an incredibly slow start and that pace has pretty much remained consistent for most of the year so far. I’ve had reading spikes in May and August, which as previously mentioned are normally months I’d feel slump-y, but also the usual dips in reading around April and June, coinciding with holidays and family events.
Thinking about previous years, it made sense to me that my reading was high at the start of the year when my energy is at its highest because even with being a jaded bean, there’s always something hopeful about starting a new year. The mid-term dip also made sense as the summer holidays roll around and the rush of adrenaline from work begins to wane as the tiredness and stress catch up to me as things slow down.
Does this tend to fluctuate every year or is your reading pretty ‘steady’?
For the most part, I think my previous years of reading have stayed pretty steady; at least enough for me to tell what months I usually start to dip and how that will affect my reading and even my blogging. That said, it obviously does depend on various things that happen throughout the year, mostly do with work and how stressful that is for me and how it affects my mood. As a mood reader, this is probably the biggest disrupting factor to my reading. I really miss the days when I could read a lot more than I do now, lol.
As mentioned above, 2025 as a whole has been a lot more emotionally and mentally taxing in so many ways, especially seeing what’s happening around the world and in my own country, and it has clearly affected my mental health a lot more than I ever anticipated when the year started. Let’s see how this year wraps up—for some reason I’m feeling slightly hopeful and that’s great, but I’m also not trying to put that pressure on myself. We’re going with the flow!

Do you notice your reading soaring and dipping during a particular time of the year or does your reading stay pretty steady throughout the year?

Interesting post. I read pretty much all the time. The only time I don’t is when I’m on holiday. Too much being a social butterfly 🦋

I feel I read pretty much all the time as well although there are some dips and lulls throughout the year. 🤭

I can totally relate to being a mood reader and the stress of everyday life affecting my blogging and reading. Can only wish that things get better in your country and that your mental health improves!
Unfortunately, we don’t talk enough about mental health and its toll on us all. Take care and happy reading! Also, I am so happy to hear that this year, despite everything else, has been a steady one when it comes to reading 🙂

An interesting question. Not sure I have a reading season, but my reading drops at obvious times – the holidays and vacation. I go on vacation where I do stuff and my daughter comes to visit for the holidays, so my reading drops. I do try to maintain my 5 books a week though.

5 a week is pretty amazing and consistent! The holidays are usually always a tough time for me when it comes to reading because I always end up busier than I anticipate and then all my reading plans fly out the window 🤣

I learned in answering this that what I thought about my reading habits was wrong!
Let’s Talk Bookish: Best Season For Reading

I saw a few people mention that actually 🤭

Going with the flow sounds great to me. I find reading is a great way to escape from worries etc. it’s when I often reread books that I know J love. I think my reading stays fairly consistent throughout the year but maybe is more in the Summer when we’re on holiday and especially if I have long flights

Reading really is the best escape and I love that I have it! I don’t know how I would’ve dealt mentally over the last few years if I didn’t have books 🤭 The holidays are a great time to catch up on reading! I always find that I end up reading way less on holiday, even when I have massive reading plans lined up, haha.

I get that. I read less in my actual holiday but I have 20 hours travelling each way so I get a fair bit of reading done then😀

I tend to read more books in the winter time since I’m not spending time gardening! There’s usually an uptick in my stats.

Ah, that makes sense! I can’t believe that the winter months are already fast approaching 🫣

I can relate to 2025 being mentally taxing! Which is why I have been reading so much more than usual to escape reality lol.

Fair enough! I feel like it’s kind of done the opposite for me but I hope that the year ends on a high note—at least in terms of reading if not in terms of the world being less of a dumpster fire, lol!

Oh such a dumpster fire! Yes let’s hope for great books, since we can’t control everything else.

That’s a good question. I wish I have an accurate answer but I feel like as a mood reader, I can’t tell you exactly which season. Lol!

As a fellow mood reader, I totally get it. Aside from the two main dips/highs that I mention, I think for the most part it really depends on how stressful or intense a year is for me when it comes to reading more or less 🤭

I don’t think I have a best season, although I’ve never tracked it aha – would be interesting to do so. I think it ebbs and flows depending on current inspiration and how busy I am at work etc… Although I do love Autumn as a reading season as mugs of tea, cosy blankets and candles are the best! 😀 xo

Fair! Now that I’m working somewhere that actually keeps me busy, I definitely have a lot less time and that has really impacted my reading moods and thus, how much I read! I miss living in a place with more than two seasons because I miss autumn and how cosy everything becomes when sweater weather commences 😍

Yes I can imagine, after a busy day at work I also struggle to pick up books sometimes. Ahw noo I’m sorry you don’t get autumn weather anymore – sweater weather and candles and all definitely encourage me to snuggle up and read aha! xo
