We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is: Books Guaranteed to Put an End to Your Book Slump (Which books would you recommend to someone (it’s me, I’m someone) dealing with the dreaded book slump? No book is grabbing their attention or making them excited to sit down and read and they are suffering for it.)
Okay, to say these books are guaranteed to get you out of a book slump is a bit too much pressure, but these books helped me shake that slump-y feeling, so perhaps they can help you too! It’s also interesting that this week’s topic is about reading slumps because I just wrote a post about it (and bookish hangovers + how to get over them!) last Friday. In line with some of the tips I mentioned, I think these are good options to check out if you want to try a different genre or format to try and get over a slump.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman — the audiobooks specifically + the entire series!
Blades of Furry: Vol. 1 by Emily Erdos & Deya Muniz
Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert — or the whole Brown Sisters trilogy!
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman — this whole series is *chef’s kiss*!
Lunar Boy by Jes and Cin Wibowo

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera — the audiobook specifically!
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
Night Hawk by Beverly Jenkins

What books would you recommend to get over a reading slump? Is there a specific genre that’s your “go-to” to get over one or does trying something new help out the most?

I’ll be onto Dungeon Crawler Carl #5 next, and the series definetly perks me up when I’m getting book frustration.

100% because I perk up every time I realise that I still have another DCC book to read! The audiobooks are so amazing and I already can’t wait to re-read it, haha. I hope that you enjoy(ed) book 5, Louise!

I wasn’t able to get into The Thursday Murder Club when I tried last year. But I’m going to watch the movie when it comes out and then I’ll give the book another go I think.

The first ‘Good Girl’ book is so fun and good! I need to read more and Richard’s book looks really intriguing too. More potential for the TBR! 🙂

I loved the first Good Girl book but the second one wound up being my favourite of the bunch 😃 I hope you enjoy the books if you ever try them out!

Your comment about trying a different genre or format makes the most sense to me! I think that books slumps (or hangovers) often happen because of too many books that are too similar, and so mixing things up is the best way to beat it. Great list!

Thanks, Nicole! I do think shaking things up and trying something different is a good way to break the monotony. 😃

The only Brown sister I haven’t met yet is Eve. And I have enjoyed reading the Thursday Murder Club series, and I can’t wait to watch the movie in the next week or so!

Eve’s story is so much fun! I hope you enjoy it if you get around to trying it 🙂 I’m so excited to watch the movie as well. I don’t know why I thought it was a series but I’m just so keen to see these characters on the screen! I hope the humour, wit, and chemistry translates well, hehe.

I tried to figure out how to include Richard Osman onto my list. Maybe I should have made a category for books with lots of cliffhangers or full of intrigue. Good choices!

Or maybe a cozy mystery genre, if that’s not something you read often! But a category for books with lots of intrigue is a great idea—I’d check out that list for sure! 👀

Heck yeah for DCC!! 🥳I also need to read The Seven Year Slip. It’s looking at me very accusatorily from the shelves!

Before the Coffee Gets Cold is a great suggestion! It’s quick and very good. I need to read the others in the series! I almost put SYS on my list!!

I think it’s the perfect “get out of a slump” type of read. Short and impactful! I need to read the others in the series too but I’ve heard that they’re just as enjoyable. I hope we both love them 🙂

Some good choices here! Dungeon Crawler Carl interests me, I am seeing it EVERYWHERE atm and everyone seems to churn through the first 5 books in like, a week haha. That sounds sure to cure any slump

I’m deeply in the trenches of the DCC world and I don’t ever want to leave, haha. 🤣 Despite the books being absolute chonkers, it’s so good and easy to devour. I will say that it’s probably not for everyone, but as outrageous and whacky as the story can be, the plot and characters gain so much depth as the series continues and it’s amazing. I would recommend checking out the audio if you’re interested because it’s perfection—the voice actor does an incredible job giving voice to all these characters!

I have read a few of these, but Night Hawk is calling to me. I just read the blurb and it sounds good. I don’t think I’ve ever had a book slump. Maybe because I read so many different genres, I just switch it up.

I will never not recommend Bev Jenkins’ books but this romance in particular feels so perfectly paced for breaking that slump! It’s so awesome that you’ve never had a book slump, Carla! I’m envious of that but I guess that means I just need to switch up my genres more! 🤭

I have never read a Bev Jenkins’ book, but I will see if my library has any of them. Thanks, Dini.

It is such an outrageously fun LitRPG! I also didn’t expect the depth we’d get as the series continues but it’s so so sooo good and I can’t recommend it enough (especially the audiobook). 😍 I hope you love it if you check it out!

I haven’t read any of these but most of them are on my TBR. As someone who used to adore YA thrillers I can totally see how the ones you’ve mentioned could help (and they’re also books I hope to get to soon). Given your thoughts on the Poston one recently I’m not surprised to see that here either.
