#TopTenTuesday: “I” Got This

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is: Books Set in/Take Place During X (Pick a place, time, era, etc. Examples: Books set in Europe/Italy/Australia/Chicago, books set in Regency England, books that take place during the 1900s, books set in imaginary worlds/post-apocalyptic/dystopian worlds, books set on the ocean, books set it castles, books that take place during WW2, etc.)

But I’m clearly going rogue today! I don’t know why but this week’s topic just wasn’t calling to me, so I thought I’d continue with the bookish alphabet challenge. If you can’t tell from the post’s title, we’ve reached the letter “I”! It would’ve been nice if I could’ve made all of these titles romances, but I had surprisingly few romances that start with the letter I. Instead, you’re getting a list of some of my favourite reads that begin with “I”. I tried to only focus on books that don’t start with an article, but you might get an 11th book because I couldn’t not mention one of my ‘can’t sleep-can’t breathe-five-star-favourties’ even though it starts with ‘the’. 🤭

Check out the other letters of the alphabet: A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H

Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma
Illuminae by Amy Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
I hope this reaches her in time by R.H. Sin
In a Jam by Kate Canterbary
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

In the Weeds by B.K. Borison
In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation by Alexandra Vasti
Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova
Indigo by Beverly Jenkins
Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon
BONUS: The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue by V.E. Schwab

Have you read any of these books or are they on your TBR? What’re some of your favourite books that start with the letter “I”?

    • I definitely need to re-read it and I want to continue the series but it seems impossible to find a digital copy of the next book (and it is the only book I’ve lost in my adult life as I left it on the plane and only realised after I got on the connecting one)! 🫣

    • I’ve only read the first two books in that series and I loved the second (In the Weeds) so much more, although that seems to be a bit of an unpopular opinion, haha. I hope you enjoy it if you ever check it out 🙂

    • Fair because I forgot that it existed until this list reminded me. But as soon as I saw the cover again I remembered how deceptively heartbreaking it was and how emotional it made me, lol. A great read and I agree, the cover is very fun 🙂

  1. Ooh you’ve read Interview With The Vampire? I’ve seen the movie but never read the book, despite owning it for a decade 🙈 a couple of these are on my TBR but as of yet I’ve only read Addie LaRue and yes, yes, yes for including it despite the ‘the’. Addie 100% deserves to be on every positive book list 😅

    • Yeah, I read it ages ago cos I got a copy at a secondhand bookstore when I was living in Cambodia and was like “Okay, I guess I’m going to read it!” 😂 It’s been on my re-read list for a while though cos it’s been years since I read it and I want to keep going with the series. It’s been so hard to find the second book in any format though, I don’t know why!

And YES, Addie + Henry 4ever 🥹 I love them sm!

      • I really must get on with my copy sometime 🙈 I hope you manage to find a copy to reread it sometime 🤞 how frustrating that it’s hard to find. I also want to try her Mayfair Witches series and that one seems harder to find I think. Although it has been adapted recently I believe so maybe that will lead to them being rereleased. Given the popularity of the Interview TV series maybe that one will get rereleased sometime too. Then I imagine it’ll be easier to get 🤞

Same here 🥰🥰 definitely need to reread it one day.

  2. So many great books! Illuminae and Invisible Life of Addie are some of the greats on my list. Instructions for Dancing was also so good and maybe we read that together?? I can’t remember! haha.

    • Were we doing buddy reads already at that time? I know I read it for one of The Write Reads blog tours and it was devastating, haha. Illuminae is another series I feel like doing a re-read for at some point. It’s so good 😍 If you haven’t checked out the audiobooks I would highly recommend them cos they make reading the books even more amazing!

  3. Ouu fun, I like this alphabet favs theme you got going 🙂 I want to read Immortal Dark and Illuminae files! In Which Margo Halifax… sounds amazing, I’d love to try it as well and I loved Addie LaRue as well! 🙂 Great list, Dini!

  4. As a librarian, I can confirm that, for shelving purposes, “the” doesn’t actually exist. As long as the next word starts with I, it would still be shelved in the I’s. So you’re all good, you little rebel, you. 😉

So glad to see Illuminae on this list! One of my all-time favorites. I also really enjoyed Instructions for Dancing. So cute! I keep forgetting that I need to read Incendiary still, but that cover is so striking that it grabs my attention every time!
