Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

Since last week, I’ve finished 4 books. Joining the gym and having the audiobooks for two of these books helped me get through them quickly, especially Project Hail Mary, once I started listening to the audio again. Overall, it was a great reading week as I really enjoyed/loved all of the books I read!
Saint Catherine by Anna Meyer ★★★★★
I really enjoyed this contemporary adult graphic novel. Catherine was a relatable character! Her experiences, feelings, and thoughts on religion made me reflect a lot about my own. Check out my full thoughts!
A Closed and Common Orbit (Wayfarers #2) by Becky Chambers ★★★★☆
This was more of a “spin-off” from the main crew of the Wayfarers series, but it follows Sidra and Pepper, two characters who play important roles in the first book. I was a lot more invested in Pepper’s perspective, and I loved learning about her backstory. Sidra’s pov, while interesting, was a bit frustrating at times. Still, it was a great story, and I can’t wait to continue the series buddy read with Leslie!
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir ★★★★☆
It only took me 17 days, but I managed to quickly finish the book once I started listening to the audio again. I don’t know why I stopped in the first place, but it made the story much more entertaining. I’d highly recommend it! While the science-y bits—and there were plenty—made this a slog to get through as my brain is just not made for it, I ended up really loving the more personable moments. I laughed, I cried, I contemplated a lot… It was great! 🚀
Sliding Home (Out of the Park #2) by Jaqueline Snowe ★★★★½
This was a great second-chance romance featuring two realistic and easy-to-root-for characters. I loved Mitch and Brook and how emotionally vulnerable their romance was. 💜 This had the character depth in (indie) romances that I feel like I’ve been missing lately… Check out my full thoughts!
A Lesson in Vengeance ⇢ 50% ⇢ I’m enjoying this much more than I thought I would! Not only because it’s a rather slow burn (as most dark academia thrillers are), but also because it’s a step outside of my comfort zone with all the ghostly, supernatural events. I’m invested and I feel driven by the need to know exactly what’s happening! The tension is thick… 👀 I think this might be another winning Owlcrate buddy read with Leslie, Julie and Ali!
Masquerade ⇢ 58% ⇢ This is heavy on historical fiction and less on the fantasy aspect. The socio-cultural descriptions have been vivid and fascinating, and I’ve learned a lot about Yoruban/West African culture! I’m guessing I’ve just passed what will be the “turning point” in the story and I’m curious to see where this will go. I have a feeling it’s going to be incredibly angsty and infuriating, but as this is a standalone, I’m curious as to which direction Sangoyomi will take it!
I’ve still got some tour reads lined up and I should probably get onto the overdue ARCs that I’ve got on my list but I’m gonna be real—it’s really where the mood takes me so let’s see where we go!

It looks like you’ve had a great week. I liked where Masquerade ended up, and I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed the story. I picked it up because of a readathon, and I’m glad I did. I hope you like the ending, too. 🙂

I’m kind of surprised by how much I’m really enjoying it! This is very not heavy on fantasy but I love the historical aspect and how much I’m learning about Yoruba/West African culture!

Yay, I’m glad you pushed through with PROJECT HAIL MARY to end up enjoying it! It was a pretty solid read for me. Not 5 stars, but an interesting story & unique to me as someone who doesn’t read a ton of sci-fi.

YES! I’m glad that I pushed through and went back to the audiobook. I thought it was a pretty solid read too—despite the science slowing me down considerably—but it’s 100% a unique read! I really loved the characters and how it ended 😊

I’m currently reading Time Loops and Meet Cutes by Jackie Lau. The previous week has been a continuation of the In Death books by JD Robb. It’s over 20 years since I read them last and it’s interesting how much I forgot!

Authors always slag my religion. Seriously, one author included it as a trigger warning, so I tend to avoid books with religion as a central focus. Glad it was thought provoking for you.

I live in a country where religion plays such a large role in people’s identity (both by choice and otherwise—we’re mandated to state our religion in our national ID), but I have such a complex relationship with my religion. It’s always comforting (in a way) to have that complexity be shown on paper. But totally fair that you avoid books with religion as a central focus! I don’t read a lot of books where religion is the main theme but it can be interesting sometimes!

Project Hail Mary looks really interesting—glad you ended up enjoying it despite all of the science parts! I’ve heard a lot of great things about that book and look forward to reading it sometime in the future!

Project Hail Mary was an interesting and very unique read for me! I don’t read a lot of sci-fi so the whole science aspect really bogged me down but I liked the characters a lot! I would highly recommend the audiobook for this because the narrator does a fantastic job capturing the humour and bringing the main character’s voice to life 🙂

Ooh ok I’ll consider the audiobook, but I doubt I will listen the whole thing cause listening to an entire book usually doesn’t work for me 😞

I liked Lesson in Vengeance. I have to admit that the ride was more enjoyable to me than the ending—which kind of made me question the whole book 🫣 Honestly, it was a bit of a bummer but it wasn’t a bad read!

Curious about Saint Catherine, I’m gonna go read your full thoughts! Oh, you’re reading Masquerade that was a really interesting read and I look forward to see what you think at the end! Omg yay you might read One Dark Window! I loved that duology, it’s such a fun and atmospheric read!

Saint Catherine was interesting and I think I enjoyed it more because it made it easy for me to reflect on my own experiences and thoughts on religion, lol. I ended up liking Masquerade a lot more than I thought I would before starting it! The MC was quite unique and made for a good reading journey. I’ve heard a lot of great things about One Dark Window so I’m keen to check it out 🙂 Hopefully I’ll love it as much as everyone else does!

I’m glad you enjoyed it and that makes sense, I love when a book makes you think about your own relationship to something in life.
I feel the same way about Masquerade, I was pleasantly surprised by it. The MC was an engaging character for sure. & hopefully you love ODW too but if you don’t that’s ok 🖤

I have Masquerade on my shelf to read and/or listen to. Interesting that it is not as much fantasy as you were expecting. I still have not picked up Project Hail Mary, but good to know that the audiobook is a good way to go. I hope you are enjoying those upcoming books, Dini.
