We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is: Authors (or books by authors) Who Live In My State/Country (submitted by Jennifer @ Funk-N-Fiction) but I’m going rogue!

I decided to go rogue today because the topic would be just a little bit harder for me to do. My Indonesian is still not up to the level of being able to easily read literature in the language, and although it might help me to try, I don’t want it to feel like a chore, you know? As there aren’t many Indonesian authors that I read/follow this list would be… less than 5 authors long. That’s why I decided to just continue with the alphabet challenge instead and we’ve now come to the letter F. I rated all of these 4 stars and up!

    • It’s been *years* since I’ve read Fall of Giants but I still remember how utterly absorbed I was in the book and I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did! It’s so good 😍 I hope you love it if you check it out!

  5. Fugitive Telemetry, just like the rest of the Murderbot series is amazing! 🤖🖤 The Flatshare is super adorable 😍 Fable is on my TBR, but I haven’t heard of the others 🤔

    When thinking of “F” titles, I’d definitely recommend Famous in a Small Town! Ohhh or Four Dead Queens 👑

    • I love the Murderbot series so much! It’s always such a good time and I’m surprisingly excited about the adaptation for it as well. The trailer at least looks great and seemed to capture Murderbot’s humour quite well, lol. 🤭

      I read Four Dead Queens a couple of months ago but I’m sad to say that it didn’t work out for me. I haven’t heard of Famous in A Small Town though but it sounds cute. I’ll have to go see what it’s about! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂

    • Ken Follett’s books really are chonky AF and I got the small mass market of this one so it’s EXTRA chonky! 😂 When I was reading it, my IRL non-reading friends who saw me with it thought I’d lost the plot, haha. But I loved this whole trilogy, although the first book was my favourite of the three books!

    • Oh, thanks for the interest, Deb! Here’s a short list of authors and their most popular book translated into English:
      – This Earth of Mankind (Buru Quartet #1) by Pramoedya Ananta Toer
      – Beauty is a Wound by Eka Kurniawan
      – Home by Leila S. Chudori
      – The Rainbow Troops by Andrea Hirata
      – Sergius Seeks Bacchus by Norman Erikson Pasaribu

      And actually, a rather popular ‘mainstream’ author who is Indonesian is Jess Q. Sutanto! I’m not sure of her other books, but the one I’ve read by her that’s set in Indonesia is “Well, That Was Unexpected” (YA Contemporary Romance)!

      • I should also add that while these are the titles that have been recommended to me by others and that I’ve heard the most about by these authors, I haven’t actually read any of them yet. I hope to change that soon though! 🫣

    • I’ve been meaning to pick up more Follett books ever since I read this trilogy of his. I loved it so much and so I’m hopeful that I’ll love his other works too. I hope you enjoy whichever book of his you read this year! 😃 I just responded to Deb’s comment and shared a few authors and titles although I should add the disclaimer that all of them are still on my TBR (and I hope to change that soon 🤞🏽). Thanks for your interest in Indonesian authors! 😊

  17. I love these alphabet style lists, they’re so much fun. And honestly I’m terrible at keeping track of where authors are from 🙈 its hard enough keeping track of my TBR as it is 😂

    Once again I’ve read none but I do intend to start the Murderbot series this year and really want to try Fable soonish too. Is Ths Flatshare a good first book to try by Beth O’Leary? I’m not sure if I’ve heard of Fall Of Giants, although I think Pillars Of The Earth is on my TBR.

    • Haha, I loved the topic but wow, I was pretty amazed by everyone who knows which authors live or are from their state, especially! Just like you, I can hardly keep track of my TBR let alone where the authors are from, haha. That’s pretty awesome though! The Murderbot series is so super fun and I’ve been tempted to re-read them via Audiobook this year. Leslie told me about how amazing the full-cast audios are and I immediately felt the FOMO and wanted to give them a try too 😂 I hope you love them if you give them a try! And there’s the TV adaptation to look forward to as well 😍 Pillars of the Earth is still on my TBR too. Well, I actually started it years ago after I finished the only trilogy of his that I read (and absolutely loved). But the pace was too off for me and I guess I just paused it and never unpaused, lol. 🫣 I do want to finish it though!

      Also, YES! I think The Flatshare is a great place to start for O’Leary. That was my first book by her and I fell in love with it. It’s still my favourite of hers to date 🙂 I hope you love it (and all the others on your TBR) if you give the book(s) a try!

      • It’s definitely one that I’d have to research to do a list on 😂 I could probably come up with ten British authors without doing so but I don’t have a clue if any are from my county 😅 aww well I hope you get to try them in that format soon then 🥰 I know how much you love an audiobook. The full cast ones do always sound fun too. Yes that’s why I really need to get on and read the books 😅 from now I’m determined not to watch sequels without reading the books first (except with Dune, if the next part of that comes out and I haven’t read the books I’m seeing it 😂😂)

        I think I’m more aware of that one from seeing an adaptation 🙈 although I only really remember the opening of it. And I’m sorry to hear that the pacing felt off to you when you tried. I hope it works for you whenever your return to it.
