The Literary Tag

Hello, friends. It’s time for another tag Thursday and this week I’ve got The Literary Tag! I first saw this tag on Leyre @ Read You Leyre‘s page where it’s mentioned that this is a translated tag from Spanish booktok. It looked like a fun simple tag to do, so here I am doing it!

Leyre was unable to find the original creator for this tag but if you know who it is, please let me know down in the comments and I’ll credit them in the post!

What was your first read of the year?

My first read of the year was A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson. This was an interesting read, especially with my mainly negative feelings towards the MC, but I still ended up liking it a lot! Check out my full thoughts.

What are you currently reading?

I’ve got several reads on at the minute because truthfully, I’ve spent more time gaming than reading over the past week. My focus reads at the moment are Project Hail Mary and A Closed and Common Orbit, but I’m still planning to finish One by One soon(ish). I guess you can say that I’ve been in more of a sci-fi mood lately? I’m taking my time with these reads but I’m hoping to get all of them read by the end of April!

A book you’re dying to read?

Oh gosh, must I really only choose one? There are so many option to choose from!

After a five-second pause to think, the first book that came to mind is: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett. I’ve heard so many good things about this book (and series) and I can’t wait to give it a go!

An author you have not read yet but want to

Emily Henry. I feel like I’m the last person on earth who has yet to read an Emily Henry book, but here we are! 😂 I remember my initial excitement about Beach Read when it was first about to come out on my birthday years ago. I got the book and have all of Henry’s subsequent releases and yet… I still don’t know why I haven’t picked any of them up!

A series you want to start

There are so many to choose from but I think The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin is not only at the top of the list, but it’s also one of the oldest unread series on my shelves too.

A series you want to finish

I hope 2025 will finally be the year that I finish The Burning Kingdoms Series by Tasha Suri. I buddy read the first in the series maybe four years ago now and we were going to continue the series last year, but then completely forgot our plans, lol. 😂 Jess and I are planning to do a re-read of book one this June followed by the rest of the series after. Let’s hope we don’t forget this time! 🤞🏽

And that’s it for The Literary Tag! I won’t be tagging anyone to do this but if you fancy it, feel free to link back so I can see your answers!

    • Yes! It feels like everyone has been reading it lately but maybe that’s because the sequel just came out (and then I started seeing that everywhere). It looks amazing 😍 I hope we both enjoy it whenever we get around to reading it!

    • I’ve heard so many amazing things about the trilogy—especially about the world building—so I’m very much looking forward to checking it out! 🙂 I’m glad to hear that the writing hooks you in from the beginning. It’s been a weird (and tough!) reading year for me, so I need something that will pull me in from the first and not let go, lol.

    • It really does feel like we’re the last people on earth who hasn’t read her but it’s nice to know that I’m not on that boat alone, Anoushka! 😂 The Broken Earth Trilogy really does sound amazing. I hope we both love it whenever we get around to reading it 🙂

  4. If it makes you feel any better you’re not the last person on earth to read something by Emily Henry, I haven’t yet either. I have so many books by her jotted down on my TBR too. The Fifth Season is another on my TBR. It’s one of my top ten unowned series to get too (actually that author is why it’s actually an 11 not a 10 as I couldn’t choose between two series by her 😂😂) Jasmine Throne is one of my must reads, owned this time, too. Plus I’m planning to get A Language Of Dragons out of the library later this year so we have a lot of crossover. Also what games have you been playing?

I’ll have to try this sometime it looks fun. Although I should probably share my backlist tags first (and I haven’t forgotten that I said I’d tag you in some either 😅)

  5. I think I’ve read one book by Emily Henry? But I can’t really remember anything about it 😂. I’ve also been eyeing up The Tainted Cup recently, I have a copy on my kindle and hopefully will be able to pick it up soon… although possibly a future buddy read choice? I hope you love The Burning Kingdom trilogy when you get around to reading. It’s an all time favourite of mine and I thought it got better with each book!
