Prompts: Do you collect bookish accessories? What are some bookish accessories that you can’t get enough of? Is there any type of bookish accessory that you feel is “overdone” (i.e. book mugs)? Where do you usually get your bookish accessories and do you have recommended stores to get them from?

Do you collect bookish accessories?

I don’t really collect bookish accessories, I just receive them from book boxes and most of the time, I find use for the items I receive. There have been plenty that have accumulated over the years, especially bookish mugs, book pins/magnets, book tins, ceramic book pots, bookmarks, and plenty of other accessories and knickknacks that I’ve lost count of over the years, lol. There have also been some clothing items in the boxes such as scarves, beanies, mitts, and for a while, quite a few socks too.

I also receive at least 1-2 generic bookmarks with each book I purchase at the local English bookstore, which means that over the years, I’ve amassed so large a number that I now thank and return them on the spot when I get my books. 😂

What are bookish accessories you can’t get enough of?

I adore bookish clothing although I can’t get my hands on much here without either making it myself or paying ridiculous import taxes! I love seeing bookish shirts, jumpers, beanies, etc., especially with designs or references from my favourite reads. It does give me FOMO! 😂

Of the items that I’ve received over the years, I’ve loved book pots and book tins! Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but they make for great places to store little bits and bobs that accumulate (like bookmarks, pins, magnets, etc.

Is there any type of bookish accessory you feel is “overdone”?

I’m ngl, this might be because I’ve received so many over the years, but I’m pretty over book pins and bookish mugs*. 😂 I say the latter with a caveat though because I do love them and the only reason I feel they’re “overdone” is because I have no space to store them any longer. 🤭

Where do you usually get your bookish accessories and do you have recommended stores to get them from?

As I’ve already mentioned, most if not all of my bookish accessories come from book boxes, specifically Owlcrate and Illumicrate. I’ve never actually bought bookish goods outside of these two websites, mostly for import tax reasons, but I know that there are some great items that can be found on Etsy. I’m sure there are tons of other places to buy from but I just don’t keep up with them!

  1. Ah the book pots and tins are indeed lovely! Glad you enjoy them and find them useful! I had a subscription box when I lived in the UK had it for a few months then opted out due to the amount of stuff they sent lol I had no space or Intrest in collecting 😅 book will do fine! Haha

    • Haha, yeah, I think a lot of people feel that way about stuff in book boxes to be honest. I found it quite nice initially because it’s so rare to see bookish things here that to me it was a bit of a novelty. It’s also easy to get rid of things I don’t want here and people will be happy to just take it, lol. It’s come to be quite a lot though over the years! The book will defo do fine! 😂

      • Same! It was a novelty for me too at the time but I find also the items repetitive especially when it comes to mugs and candles lol I don’t mind but damn who needs that many candles! Still nothing wrong with people enjoying it though yep I’ll stick with the books only 😄

        • Haha, I didn’t even think about it but I guess the boxes got the hint after people really started complaining about all the candles they receive. I have a whole box full from these book boxes that are sitting unused (although it did kickstart my obsession with beautiful candles, haha)! I’m glad that I’ve given myself a moment to catch up with the books from book boxes. I can’t lie that I miss the monthly “surprise gift box” to myself 😂

          • I mean, the candles are great and smell awesome, but yeah, unless you are planning to make a Madame Tussauds wax figure, I don’t know what you will need all of those candles for lol! I do miss that feeling too here we have something similar but i never tried it maybe they have other goodies that can be put to better use such as tea, soaps, chocolate haha

  2. I book mug and a pair of socks is about it. I have tons of bookmarks, but being as I read mostly ebooks and listen to audiobooks, I don’t have much use for them anymore. I have never been one for knick knacks and don’t get boxes or crates, so I’m good. I do like those book tins and pots though.

    • That’s the same problem I’m having these days with my bookmarks. Although I still have a vast physical collection, I mostly read ebooks these days. I guess maybe it’s more motivation to read my physical books 😂 But there are really only so many bookmarks one needs, lol. The tins and pots are so aesthetically pleasing and fit a surprising amount (of bookmarks)!

  3. I may have a bookish mug full of the bookmarks I’ve collected over the years sitting on my bookshelf. My laptop is also covered with bookish stickers. But one of my favorite bookish items is a hat I have that says Fight Evil, Read Books. I’ve had a lot of compliments about it. I was sad, because I lost my original hat on vacation last year. My husband bought me a replacement that I wear proudly!

    • Hehe, I can relate. The bookish tins and pots that I have all hold the many many bookmarks that’ve piled up over the years… 🤭 Also, that hat sounds amazing and it’s awesome that your husband was able to get you a new one after you lost the original one (that must’ve been devastating when it happened)!

  4. Those pots are adorable! I feel like I am not a real reader, but I just don’t like clutter. I used to have a ton of stuff from when we went to various book conventions, but that stuff just sat around collecting dust. It’s now gone.

    • Thanks, I’m quite happy that I was able to get my hands on them. If it weren’t for these book boxes, I would’ve never found something as cute (and useful) here! I totally get what you mean with not liking clutter (and it doesn’t make you any less of a reader! 😉) and even though I don’t personally count the majority of books lying around my room as clutter, it’s more the little things that get to me cos I can’t organize them in neat ways, haha. At least with book stacks, I can stack them nicely 😂 I think I need to do a proper spring clean before the month is up!

  5. I have those book tins from Owlcrate and they are my favorite thing!! I am over it too because of the room. It’s why I have only switched to “book only” because I don’t have the room for all the extra stuff anymore!
