#WWWWednesday: 16 April 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve read 3 books and found another 5-star and favourite of the year!

The Duke Identity (Game of Dukes #1) by Grace Callaway ★★½
This started strong but ended up falling flat. I know that’s a pretty low rating but I was honestly bored out of my gourd and couldn’t even care about the romance. Even the steamy was not for me! It’s my least favourite Callaway so far.

The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet (Wayfarers #1) by Becky Chambers ★★★★★
This was a great buddy read with Leslie and yep, I ended up loving it just as much as everyone said I would. I can’t wait to check out the rest of the series! I wrote a very gushing and long review HERE if you want to read my full thoughts!

Regarding the Duke (Game of Dukes #3) by Grace Callaway ★★★★☆
I’m not usually big on amnesia plots because it makes me too anxious but wow, was it a blast here! The way his amnesia breathed new and incredibly sexy life into their marriage was amazing and I genuinely enjoyed their romance. Gabby was so relatable and I loved reading about a plus-sized historical girlie. This was a wildly fun romp and (thankfully) oodles better than the first book!

I’ve continued to kinda struggle with sticking to a read. Since I finished my last book, I’ve picked up (and put down) plenty including One Dark Window, The Song Book of Benny Lament, Fourteen Days, and Saint Death’s Daughter to name a few, but below are the ones I’m pursuing for now:

  • One by One25% ⇢ I haven’t picked this back up since last week. I don’t know what I’m waiting for!
  • Eight Hundred Grapes42% ⇢ I picked this up on Monday morning and by the evening I had read this much. I could’ve finished it that day but the part where I stopped meant that drama and angst was incoming and my anxiety wasn’t prepped, lol. The people in this book are so messy but I guess that’s people IRL too. I’m here for it! 😂
  • Project Hail Mary5% ⇢ This was one my top priorities for 2025 so I’m glad I picked it up. It’s starting off a bit… Slow? I forgot I had the audiobook and so I just put that on coming home from work but I’m not sure I’m enjoying the narrator. 🤔 I think I just need to keep going with it!

I have to read Saint Catherine by Anna Meyer for a blog tour in the coming weeks and I think a graphic novel could be a refreshing move!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

    • I feel you. I started playing new games this week and I have done so little engaging. It’s not just past midnight on Saturday and I’m only just responding to some comments. I have no sense of good timing, haha. Do you want to start the next book on Monday btw? I forget what we said on IG!

      • I am just now catching up on posts from 5 days ago. haha. I’m so behind. I’m almost caught up! I need to read a bunch in my current buddy reads tonight. I messaged you back about our book! ❤

  2. I really need to pick up the Chambers series again, after a much needed re-read of the first book lol. I remember loving it, so I’m not sure why I didn’t pick up the rest of the series. I loved Project Hail Mary, though I didn’t read the audio-book so can’t speak to the narrator. As much as a lot of the science goes over my head, I love Weir’s characters enough to ignore my lack of knowledge lol. I hope you enjoy all your reads 🙂

    • Okay, why did I think you’d already read the Wayfarers series!? It was so good and I totally get why everyone told me I’d love it cos facts. 😂 I hope you enjoy it upon re-read and if you get to the rest of the series too! The audio for PHM has since grown on me since writing this post and I’m enjoying it. I just need to stick with it and not get distracted (which I very much am at the moment, lol)! The science really does go over my head and I’m so glad that you mentioned that cos I was like I’m feeling like such a dunce haha

  3. Wow that’s a major difference between those two duke books. How odd that the one dealing with a theme you don’t usually enjoy was the better of them for you. I’m thrilled you loved the Becky Chambers one. I’ve heard such incredible things. I’m kind of torn over checking your review out now or waiting until I’ve read it. Given what I’ve heard before is there a lot of character gushing? Because if so maybe I’m best off saving it for later so we can compare notes 😂

I’m sorry to hear you’ve struggled with several books. I hope Project Hail Mary picks up for you soon too. I hope you enjoy the graphic novel too and have a wonderful week.

    • Yeah, ngl, I was pretty disappointed by how much I didn’t enjoy that Callaway book. I feel like despite the third book having the trope I don’t normally enjoy, Callaway wrote it so enjoyably that I didn’t mind at all. It was delightfully low angst!

And I totally getcha. I would wait to read the review until you read the book, I guess? Haha, I tried not to give spoilers but yes, I did gush a lot about the characters. It was so well written 😍 I hope you love it whenever you check it out!

PHM has picked up for me. I’ve been in quite a weird reading mood this year thanks to my brain feeling like its on overstimulation mode all the time. 🫣 But at least I’m finding more books I enjoy. I hope you’ve had a good week and are reading lots of things you enjoy, Charlotte!

      • It’s definitely a shame about the other one. It’s wonderful when a trope that you’re usually not fond of surprises you like that though.

I always feel odd that I do that sometimes but if I know I want to read something there are some cases where I’d rather wait and compare notes after 😂 I’ve saved the email notification though and can’t wait to meet this cast of characters. Thank you 🥰 oh BTW that’s why I haven’t gotten to your Quicksilver one yet either. I decided maybe I was best comparing notes after as I didn’t want anything to sway my opinions in the end. I’ll probably order it into the library soon (although I guess when I get to it depends on the waitlist given its popularity right now)

I’m glad to hear it picked up. Oh I’ve been like that before, I hope it improves soon. So frustrating when you can’t focus. Thank you 🥰 I’m loving Priory Of The Orange Tree atm. I’m hoping I’ll start getting through some of my 25 to read in 25 soon too. Although the library is also calling to me 😂🙈

  4. A year ago, when I was seeing all sorts of fun chatter about Regarding the Duke, I gave The Duke Identity a try. (I have a hard time reading a series out of order even when it’s not necessary to do so.) I DNF’d that book so thought maybe this was an author for me. Now, seeing that you liked the one so much better than the other I wonder if I should give this author another try and skip ahead in the series to Regarding the Duke.

    • Oh, I’m glad that I’m not the only who didn’t enjoy The Duke Identity. I was very surprised by how much I didn’t enjoy it because most of Callaway’s books for me (so far) have been at least 4 stars. The first in this series was just not it 🫣 I know what you mean about reading out of order cos I’m also the same, but I would recommend still checking out Regarding the Duke because it was just as good as everyone said!
