#WWWWednesday: 9 April 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

The last time I did a Wednesday post was about 3 weeks ago. Since then, I’ve only read 4 books, so not very much at all! 😂 I had a feeling this Japan trip was going to be too busy for reading, and while I’m sad that I didn’t read anything much during the two weeks I was away, I’m also not surprised.

The Dragon’s Apprentice by James Riley ★★★½
This was a fun MG fantasy full of adventure, humour, mayhem and magic! I’m curious to see where the author will take the story next 🙂 [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW]

One by One by Freida McFadden ★★★☆☆
This author is so hyped in the thriller/mystery reader community (especially on bookstagram), and while I’m glad I finally read one of her books, I’m not sure if this was the right one, lol. I was mildly bored, even with the twists right up to the end, and I wasn’t particularly “wowed”. It was a quick and easy read, though—perfect-ish for getting back into a reading mood!

A Whisper of Death (Raven & Wren #1) by Darcy Burke ★★★☆☆
Unfortunately, while this started off interestingly, I found myself bored by how repetitive it was and how slowly the plot moved. This was almost 400 pages, and for how little actually happened, it really could’ve been half that! It wasn’t all bad but I don’t know if I’ll continue with the series.

Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson ★★★★½
This was the third Owlcrate book I read with Ali, Julie, and Leslie. I’m happy to say that this was my favourite of the bunch so far! I was hooked from the beginning and really enjoyed Rogerson’s writing. It’s simple and engaging, and I loved the characters the most in this!

I’ve got a few books on at the minute!

  • The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet39% ⇢ Leslie & I have finally started our buddy read for this series that we’ve both had on our TBRs for… Way too long! 😂 I’m excited for this immersive reading experience (listening along to the audiobook with my physical copy), but I’m also a bit nervous. I hope we both love it as much as everyone else does!
  • One by One25% ⇢ If you’re thinking, “didn’t you just finish a book with this same title?” You’d be right! This is one of the 2025 Popsugar prompts, and I’m excited to finally be reading something by Ruth Ware!
  • The Duke Identity53% ⇢ I mean, naturally, we have to balance all the reads out, right? Its been a minute since I picked up anything by Callaway but she’s always great with the angst and steam! This one is fun but there have been some moments with the MMC that have made me pause.

My mood has been all over the place, so I have no idea what I’ll pick up next. I have my Spring Equinox semester books to tackle, so maybe it’ll be one of those for the prompt!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. Hey, totally ok you didn’t read a lot while on your trip! Gotta live in the moment! I’m definitely behind on Margaret Rogerson’s books, but it seems everyone likes her books. The only one I’ve read is The Enchantment of Ravens, I think it’s called.

  3. I hope you had a fantastic time in Japan 🥰 I’m curious about Freida McFadden too although I haven’t heard of that one. I read the premise of her June (I think 🤔) release The Tenant and instantly latched onto the idea of making that my first book by her 😂

I’m sorry to see that some of your reads were somewhat average but I’m thrilled that you found an Owlcrate hit. Vespertine sounds so good and I’m glad you loved it 🥰 I adored An Enchantment Of Ravens by the author but somehow haven’t gotten to either of her other books 🙈

It looks like you have a great mixture of books on the go. I have two on atm for the first time ever 😂 I really hope you and Leslie love the Becky Chambers book. I’ll be watching out for both of your thoughts. I hope you enjoy your other two reads too though. I’ve read one Ruth Ware book but it was so long ago that I can’t really remember it 🙈 yay for matching tittles 😂

  5. I’m so glad we finally had a good Book box read!! I am loving our BR and I have a good feeling we will end up happy, since we are more than half way. I’m so hopeful. haha. I think we should just keep rolling into the next 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful week of reading and life. ❤

  6. It’s understandable you haven’t read as much as you usually do due to your trip, but I am sure that will change soon!

I am so curious about Freida McFadden, I see those books everywhere, I want to try them but I am not sure whether they’re for me or not. I have not seen that one before, I wonder if it was about the book or the author.

Excited to see what you read next!

  7. I find that McFadden is hit or miss for me. Even in the same series my ratings go from 5 to 3 stars. I hope you enjoy your upcoming reads, Dini.
