#WWWWednesday: 12 February 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve finished 2 books.

Sorcery and Small Magics (The Wildersongs Trilogy #1) by Maiga Doocy ★★★★☆
This is marketed as A Marvellous Light meets Emily Wilde and the author also calls it a “quietly whimsical stubborn slow burn of a book” and both descriptions couldn’t be more apt! I expected to love this a lot more but it was a quiet cosy book that was good company and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next!

Unhallowed Halls by Lili Wilkinson ★★★★☆
I read this with Chris (check out his review!) and despite it being outside of my comfort zone, I really enjoyed it! Wilkinson knows how to create a perfectly eerie atmosphere and I liked the dark academia side too. The second half goes a lottle batty and I wanted a bit more character depth, but overall, I found it very entertaining. Perfect for fans who like mythology + demonology mixed in with their dark academia!

Long Bright River ⇢ 57%
This was a very popular literary mystery from 2020 that was one of those “everyone and their mum is reading it” books on bookstagram. It was everywhere! Despite moving at a very slow pace, I’m enjoying my immersive reading (ebook + audio). Things are getting intense and my ‘bad feelings’ radar is pinging hard. I’m fully engaged!

I need to pick up Rebel Witch asap because I’m on a blog tour for it next week and I can’t wait to read it but also, I’m so nervous about reading it that I’m also pushing off picking it up. Does that happen with anyone else too or am I the only weirdo who does that? 😂

Book cover of Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli. The book cover is red and yellow gold. There is an intricate old school key in the middle of the page with a moth on top of it.

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

    • YES! It’s a duology and gurrrll, I don’t know why I assumed you had read the first book already but DO IT! It was SO GOOD!!!! I’m so excited and scared to read the finale but fingers crossed it all goes well haha. I hope you have an awesome week as well, my friend! 💜

  2. You’re not alone in the putting books off despite being excited to get to them. I spent years doing that with my preorders as I was terrified of them letting me down 🙈 and someone else mentioned struggling with it on Instagram lately.

I think we already mentioned Sorcery but I am intrigued by Unhallowed Hall too. I don’t think I’ll get to that one as soon – especially as the bonkers comment has me nervous- but I do want to give it a try sometime. I hope you enjoy the rest of Long Bright River & good luck getting the blogging tour book read on time. I hope you end up loving it 🥰

I finished The Raven Scholar and utterly adored it. We may only be in February but when it comes to books of the year that ones going to be tough to top.

    • Haha, omg, YAY! It’s so comforting to know that these “bad habits” aren’t mine alone. 🤣 The nerves just get to me and I end up psyching myself out most of the time and then feeling irritated with myself when I finally do read the book and it ends up being amazing, lol.

I think Unhallowed is one of those books that I would recommend going into without expectations? I went in just expecting it to be scary but I think if you just roll with the vibes and don’t think too much about the logic behind demonology and such (haha) then I think you could have a fun time! If you do end up giving it a go, I’d be curious to see your thoughts on it! And I did end up loving Long Bright River. It was a pretty harrowing and depressing read but the author explores the subjects very well and I was hooked on the mystery! I can see why it was so popular back then.

Omg, you’ve got me so intrigued by The Raven Scholar with that comment! I’ve just quickly gone to see what it’s about and it sounds fantastic so I’m chucking that on the TBR now so thanks for putting that on my radar! 😍

      • Lol I totally understand and I find it a relief to know others end up doing the same thing too. Yes you’re right, I could kick myself when I end up adoring them and they’ve sat on my shelf for years. I hope you enjoy any like it whenever you get to them.

Ah that makes sense. And sometimes you do kind of crave a book like that. I’ll let you know how I find it, but I honestly don’t think it’ll be any time soon because my TBR is kind of crazy 😂 I’m glad to hear it. Sometimes those kind of books really stick with you when they’re well done and I’m glad the mystery hooked you too.

Yay I’m glad to hear it intrigued you. I can’t wait for more people to read it. The character & worlds were so good. And I truly don’t know when I last read such a twisty read 😂 I hope you enjoy it too 🥰
