#WWWWednesday: 5 February 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve finished 3 books.

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera ★★★★½
This was my last read of January and my favourite of the month. There’s not necessarily an “urgency” to the mystery but as more gets revealed and you realise how messed up these people are, the more compelling the story becomes. It was just so good and I get the hype! I would also recommend the audiobook.

In A Rush by Kate Canterbary ★★★★½
I know I’m always in good hands with KC’s romances and I wasn’t disappointed! This was a fun, steamy, and swoontastic friends-to-lovers romance featuring two grumps with so much love to give! If you like a romance Wife Guy (I sure do) you may just fall head over feet for Ryan cos this man… I loved how much he loved his wife! [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW!]

The Forest King’s Daughter (Thirstwood #1) by Elly Blake
I’m not quite sure what to rate this but I will say that I was a bit disappointed by it. I read this with Julie and I feel like we had the same thoughts about it for the most part. While there were a lot of fun elements to the story, a lot of it felt rushed and very surface-level. I enjoyed it enough to want to continue the series though and I’m curious to see where the story goes from here. My full thoughts will be out next week for the blog tour!

Sorcery and Small Magics ⇢ 53%
I started this before Forest King but put it aside since that ARC was a priority. I’ve come back to it now and I am enjoying it but I don’t feel the need to compulsively read it, if that makes sense? I’m in the story while I’m reading but I feel like I’m still waiting for that big hook that’ll take this from “I like it” to being “unputdownable”.

I’ve got quite a few ARCs to read for February and since I completed all my January ARCs, I hope to keep on track for February! 🤞🏽

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  2. I am so glad you enjoyed Listen for the Lie!! I actually love that cover way more than the one sitting on my bookshelf. I can’t wait for our Bone Season BR!! I hope you have a wonderful week. Dini! ❤

    • That’s so funny because every time I see this bright yellow cover I wish I had the red cover 😂 There’s just something about that red cover that I feel fits the story more? Haha, the grass is always greener but it’s so funny to see how they went in such opposite directions with these covers, lol. I’m a bit nervous for it (for some reason) but I’m also very keen to start our Bone Season read. I hope we all love it 🙂 I hope you’re feeling better, Leslie!

    • It’s honestly hard to top In A Jam cos that was peak perfection (alongside KC’s The Worst Guy) but In A Rush was a really good time! I’m a huge fan of KC’s books though so I know I’ll always have fun reading them. I hope you enjoy it if you do check it out! 🙂

  3. I’m sorry to hear that the Forest King’s Daughter disappointed you somewhat. Hopefully the sequel will go into more depth and be closer to what you were hoping for 🤞 I’m curious about Sorcery & Small Magics too. Good luck keeping up with your arcs, it looks like you have some fantastic ones to get to. And I’m really hoping to reread The Bone Season one day. I read the first few books but it was years ago so I remember less than I’d like plus they’ve been rewritten since. Catching up on the series is a must for 2025.

    • I think it was more disappointing because I saw how amazing it could’ve been (for me!) if everything had been given more depth! 🫣 I know a lot of readers will love it and I still enjoyed it well enough to continue the series. I hope the sequel will give more as well! I just finished Sorcery & Small Magics last night and it was good. Very much a cosy slow burn type of read and not just in the romance because that was VERY slow burn and still slowly burning at the end (loL) but also in the overall plot/pacing. It’s pitched as a mix of A Marvellous Light and Emily Wilde and that could not have been more accurate!

Ooh, did you enjoy The Bone Season books when you read them? It’s such a hyped series and I’m looking forward to finally checking it out although I only just realised that it’s not even finished yet! I don’t know why I thought the final book came out last year, lol. I hope you enjoy the re-read whenever you get around to it! Happy reading 🙂

      • Aww I completely understand. I’ve had books where I’ve longed for more depth in the past too. It’s so frustrating when that happens, especially when it could have been a favourite with that extra effort. Slow burn can work wonders for me so hopefully I’ll find that good then. I haven’t read This Marvellous Light but any comparison to Emily Wilde is bound to intrigue me 😂

I loved them but it’s one of those ones where I now can remember very little of what went on. Bits have stayed with me but I’m definitely looking forward to my reread. Oh lol, no I imagine it’ll be a few years before it’s finished. I think the author generally has one book release a year (there’s two this year but I think that’s just because ones a novella) but they’re not always part of The Bone Season. Thank you 🥰 I hope you get on wonderfully with your first try with the world too.

        • Yeees, it could’ve honestly been a 4+ star read because the enemies-to-lovers romance was truly giving the enemies and tension, and the world-building was interesting there just needed to be more of all of it. Let’s hope book two delivers!

Ooh, if you like a slow burn then I think there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy Sorcery. Hopefully you do if you check it out 🙂 I had a feeling that The Bone Season would be a book/series that requires concentration. I was meant to start a buddy read of it at the start of the month but I was like hold on, I don’t think this would be good cos I’m likely to forget everything almost immediately?! Good to know that it’ll be a few years until the work is finished thought, at least then there’s no rush to speed through them (unless we end up loving it so much we can’t stop, lol).

          • Here’s hoping 🤞 that combination of elements would generally really work for me too.

Thank you 🥰 I hope it goes well whenever you get to them. From what I remember yes there are details you’ll need to keep track of. It’ll be good if you end up hooked enough to speed through. I hope you all love it whenever you get to it. Although if you do that wait is going to feel frustrating 😅
