#TopTenTuesday: Holding Myself Accountable—The 2024 Edition!

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is 2024 Releases I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To (will you be prioritizing these this year?)

Well, I know I’m not the only one who said that they’d read many exciting 2024 releases and just… Never got around to them, right? While I could stretch this far beyond just new releases but rather books that I told myself I’d prioritize over the year, I’m going to stick to the 2024 releases that I was really hyped about but didn’t end up reading! Will I prioritise them this year? I do have one or two on my list for reading challenges I’m participating in and I hope that means I will get to them this time but only time (and mostly my mood) will tell!

The Undermining of Twyla & Frank
Someone You Can Build A Nest In
The Friendship Study
Asking for a Friend
So Let Them Burn

A Novel Love Story
Bride
Sex, Lies and Sensibility
Otherworldly
A Love Song for Ricki Wilde

Were any of these 2024 releases on your TBR and did you read them or did they also fall by the wayside? Do you think you’ll prioritise them this year? If you’ve read any of these, which one do you think I should try reading first?

  1. The only one of these that I have read is The Undermining of Twyla and Frank which I loved. I never though I would love a book about zombies so it just shows that books can always surprise you.

  2. I really need to get to So Let Them Burn sometime too. It sounds so good! I really want to try that Ashley Poston book sometimes and the Megan Bannen series too but I own other books by both and am going to TRY and be sensible and pick those up first. Hopefully this year 🤞

I hope you manage to get to some of these this year and enjoy them whenever you do 🥰

    • I’ve only read one book by both Poston (Dead Romantics) and Bannen (Hart & Mercy) and both have a very special place in my heart. Those books made me feel all the things and I’m not at all embarrassed to admit that I cried my heart out reading them, haha. To be fair, it doesn’t take much to do that as I’m a pretty emotional reader. 😂 I hope you enjoy both of them if you do try them this year though! Happy reading 😍

      • I really want to read those two but I’m trying to be sensible and own my owned ones first (Among The Beasts & Briars and Bird & Blade) 😂 I’m glad they’re so special go you though 🥰 oh wow they certainly sound powerful then. I’ll definitely have to hurry up and read my two so that I can justify getting their newer ones from the library 😂 thank you 🥰 happy reading to you too.

        • Ooh, I’ve read that one by Poston and I thought it was cute but I was (wonderfully) surprised by how much more I loved her adult romances with a touch of magical realism (and that’s not even usually my jam, haha). I hope you love those books—happy reading! 😍

          • Ooh I swear you’re trying to tempt me to go for her other first 😂 I’m definitely giving both a chance whatever at some point and am now extremely intrigued by the adult romances. The hype for those is so hard to resist. Thank you 🥰

    • I feel like Bride is one of those books you either really love or really don’t, lol. I hope I’m the latter but I have only read one book by Hazelwood to date so even though I loved it, I don’t know if all her romances will work for me. Hopefully I’ll find out this year though (and same goes for Twyla & Frank)! 😍

Glad to see you back around the blogosphere btw!

  3. I too have WAY too many that I did plan to read or would have liked to but never did. A couple on your list I recognize as favorites of many readers (based on book lists) and some are unfamiliar but make me want to look into them. Hope you enjoy these all. 🙂

    • Yes, a few of these did make it onto many favourites lists and I hope I end up loving them as much as everyone else does, lol. 😂 I hope you get around to reading the books you wanted to as well. Happy reading!

    • I haven’t read The Seven Year Slip yet either and that’s actually higher up on my TBR than A Novel Love Story because I want to read her books by pub year. Let’s see if I can do it! 🤣 I hope you enjoy Seven Year Slip if you get to it!

    • Ooh, the first book in Bannen’s book has a super special place in my heart. I loved it so much and I do think you should read it first if only because it does a great job of introducing us to this fantasy world. It’s very fun too (and emotional)! I hope you love it whenever you get to it 🙂

  4. I have read Bride and Twyla and Frank! I loved both of them! I do hope you get to some of these this year. A lot of your other books sound really good actually. haha. I need to check those out, as if I need more books on my TBR. hehe!!

    • I’m so excited for Twyla and Frank but I think I’ve been hesitant to pick it up because my expectations after Hart and Mercy are through the roof. 😍 Happy to hear that you still liked it though and that it made you excited for the next one—aah! I’m also excited to get to Bride—I’ve seen very mixed reviews and although I’ve read only one of Hazelwood’s books before, I really enjoyed it and I hope I feel the same way about her foray into the paranormal!

    • Ah, I’m so excited for Twyla & Frank but I know my expectations for it are also through the roof so I think I need to calm down before picking it up cos I’m scared to be disappointed, haha. I’m so glad to hear you loved it though because that means it’s more likely I will too. I hope we both enjoy Bride & Otherworldly whenever we get to them!

  5. It’s a good thing that keeping accountable with our reading is only up to us and if we don’t do what we say we will it isn’t the end of the world, or I would be responsible for global destruction. I have read A Novel Love Story and it was an enjoyable read. The only other one on my TBR (at least for now) is The Undermining of Twyla & Frank. I hope you enjoy these if and when you finally get a chance to read them, Dini.

  6. You are definetely not the only one!

I am a bit hesitant about A Novel Love Story because of its mixed reviews. Bride is also one that is a bit dividing, but I still haven’t read anything by the author.

Hope you can get to the ones you’re most excited about during this year!

    • I actually haven’t seen any reviews for A Novel Love Story but I remember hearing the same about Poston’s debut adult romance (Dead Romantics) and that one ended up on my favourite romances list. It was so emotional and beautiful and good! But I have seen a lot of mixed reviews for Bride so I think I’ll pick that one up when I’m looking for a low plot, low stakes, just for funsies read 🙂 I hope you enjoy both whenever you get around to them!

  7. Oh wow, that cover of Someone You Can Build A Nest in is so much nicer and more welcoming than the harsh red-and-black tones I saw before. This one got me to actually look at a plot summary.

Have not read any of these but have a goal of trying SOMETHING by Ashley Poston this year. Honestly considering starting with this one, just because so many people have felt middling about it compared to her earlier work, and I already feel like I’ll like it, so either I do in fact find my favorite immediately, or it only gets better.

    • I love this cover for Nest as well! The red one is so creepy and this one definitely gives more whimsical magical vibes and I’m here for that. So glad it’s the Kindle UK version, haha 😂 And ooh, I would personally recommend The Dead Romantics because I loved it so much but I hope you enjoy whichever of Poston’s books you try this year. 😊 Happy reading!

  8. I’ve only read Bride form this list. Overall I enjoyed it well enough, but I just wasn’t enamoured by this particular depiction of vampires and werewolves. Will have to check some of these other books out though 🙂 xo

    • I’ve heard a lot of mixed things about Bride and I’ve decided to go in with the lowest expectations and I’ll search it out when I’m looking for a low-brain energy type of read that’s more fun vibes than anything else—I always love a read like that, haha. 😂
