#WWWWednesday: 22 January 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I’ve finished three books.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow ★★★★½
Harrow has officially become an auto-buy author for me. This was stunning and of course, I only had to wait a million years before I finally picked it up! 😂 Harrow’s prose is evocative and achingly romantic. I loved this story within a story full of thousands of stories! This is the kind of book that makes me so happy to be a reader. 🥰

Midnight by Beverly Jenkins ★★★★☆
At this point, Bev Jenkins’ historical romances can do no wrong for me! Not only are her romances so comforting, her characters sharp and witty, their chemistry incendiary and their connection incredibly sensual, but I learn so much about Black and Native American history from a different perspective. I grow from reading her books and I love that so much!

Night Song by Beverly Jenkins ★★★½
I liked this but it felt a bit long-winded. There was so much packed into this book! We go from a forbidden romance to accidental pregnancy to marriage in crisis to a murder mystery… It was a lot! 🤣 But I loved their romance and the tension? 5 stars, A+, no notes, it was superb! ✨ This might be the horniest Bev Jenkins histrom I’ve read so far, lol.

I’ve got three books on at the minute. One is my commute read, one is my nighttime read, and one I am saving to binge at the weekend! 🤣

  • Sweet & Bitter Magic47% ⇛ This is the first Owlcreate group read I’m doing with Leslie, Julie & Ali. I’m not a huge fan of one of the MCs but I’m hooked into the story!
  • Church Girl4% ⇛ I started this last night and I barely made a dent before I passed out but I’m keen to get back to it! It’s off to a good start 😃
  • I Am Not Jessica Chen42% ⇛ I’m saving this for Saturday and I can’t wait. I’m about halfway through but I know this is one of those books I need to binge in one sitting to properly absorb, lol.

It’s wherever my mood takes me but these are a couple of hopefuls!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. I am probably going to be doing a reread of Ten Thousand Doors next month for a challenge I’m participating in. I’ve been wanting to reread it anyway ever since I figured out how the whole story fit together. Glad you enjoyed it!!

  3. Ohh, I can’t wait to see what you think of I’m Not Jessica Chen. Sounds like you are enjoying it and I hope it finishes that way. Seven Year Slip sounds like the type of read I need soon. Something that’s not a fantasy! haha. Murderbot really was a lot this week. lol

I am enjoying our buddy read too!! Was this one a trilogy? I couldn’t remember. I am just so proud of us all reading our backlist books!! woot woot!! Have a wonderful week, Dini!! ❤

    • I just saw your comment but nope, this is a standalone that we’re reading right now! I actually think all of our upcoming Owlcrate reads are going to be standalone… But we’ve got a long series coming up ahead with Julie for Samantha Shannon’s book! 😂 You did read a lot of Murderbot this week but it sounds like it was worth diving into the audiobooks. Definitely going to prioritise getting them as I get more audiobook credits!

  4. I think I’m definitely going to need to pick up Ten Thousand Doors soon after such a ringing endorsement. I’ve had my eye on it for forever, and I really loved Starling House. I’ll have to check to see if my library has it.

    • I’m so mad that I put off reading January for so long but I’m so happy to have finally read it! 😍 Reading Jessica Chen, I can see why Ann Liang is such a popular YA author. Her stories have a high relatability factor that I think many will be able to connect with.
