Hello friends! As it’s the second-to-last day of 2024, I thought I would do the Spotify Wrapped Book Tag, which I did for the first time last year! I remember having a lot of fun doing this last year, so let’s see if it’ll be just as fun now. I also hope it’s easy to find good book matches for my favourite 2024 songs! 🎶 Let’s get to it 🎶
The idea of this challenge is to put your 2024 Spotify Wrapped playlist on shuffle, and for the first five songs, you need to pick a book you read in 2024 that fits that song. It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit. You just have to explain why you chose that book for that song.
Before we kick it off I thought I’d also share my full Spotify Wrapped playlist here. Do we have similar tastes? 👀
I had a really tough time with this pick! I landed on Addie for the specific lyrics I’ve chosen below. It reminds me of how Addie felt at the start when she was stuck in her small town and aching to see the wider world. But it’s also how Henry sees Addie in their present. 💜
Lyrics:
“i’m not trying to exaggerate / but i think i might die if it happened / […] / no one in my small town / thought i’d see the lights of manhattan”
“this town is fake, but you’re the real thing / breath of fresh air through smoke rings / take the glory, give everything / promise to be dazzling”
This was another one I struggled with but considering this song is a big diss, I thought it was fitting that the first book I thought of was one that I should’ve DNF. I hated this romance and this couple and these lyrics felt so applicable to both the love interest and MC. 🤭
Lyrics:
“you’re so dumb and poetic / it’s just what i fall for, i like the aesthetic / every self-help book, you’ve already read it / cherry-pick lines like they’re words you invented / gold star for highbrow manipulation”
“don’t think you understand / just ’cause you talk like one doesn’t make you a man”
“and i promise the mushrooms aren’t changing your life / well, you crashed the car and abandoned the wreckage / f-ck with my head like it’s some kind of fetish”
This song! Fits SO PERFECTLY!! With this duology!!! 🥰💜✨ The swoons, the love, the magic! Literally, this whole song makes me think of the love between Iris & Roman. I love them so much 😭
Lyrics:
“do you think i’d give up / that this might’ve shook the love from me / or that i was on the brink? / how could you think, darling, i’d scare so easily?”
“if someone asked me at the end // i’ll tell them put me back in it / darling, i would do it again, ah, ah / if i could hold you for a minute / darling, i’d go through it again, ah, ah”
“for all that was said / of where we’d end up at the end of it / when the heart would cease / ours never knew peace / what good would it be on the far side of things?”
we can’t be friends (wait for your love) – ariana grande
For this pairing, I’m linking it more to the concept behind the music—Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind—rather than the lyrics. But the lyrics still apply! The same concept of erasing someone from your memory is also in More Happy Than Not. Both the song and book are equally heartbreaking! ❤️🩹
Lyrics:
“i don’t wanna tiptoe, but i don’t wanna hide / but i don’t wanna feed this monstrous fire / just wanna let this story die / and i’ll be alright”
“we can’t be friends / but i’d like to just pretend / you cling to your papers and pens / wait until you like me again”
Okay, ngl, it feels a bit ick to pair these (only because of how serious and sad this book is) but I think it’s most fitting! This book is about a young woman who is in a toxic abusive relationship and a lot of these lyrics fit the dynamic between Amelie and Reese.
Lyrics:
“i told my friends you were the one after i’d known you like a month / and then you kissed some girl from high school.”
“and now it don’t mean a thing god, love’s f-ing embarrassing just watch as i crucify myself.”
“and i consoled you while you cried / over your ex girlfriend’s new guy / my god, how could i be so stupid.”
That’s it for the 2024 Spotify Wrapped book tag, friends! I’m not tagging anyone but if this sounds like something you’d enjoy doing I’d love to see your answers (especially what songs you’re listening to)! Do we have similar reading and music taste at all?
This was my first book by Bourne and I’d be curious to see what her other books are like although I’m slowly growing out of the YA contemporary phase. Finding it a bit too angsty these days, haha.
I love the idea of this though sadly, I am not familiar with either the song, the book, or both (though I saw Hozier years ago when they opened for Imagine Dragons).
This is a fun tag! Sadly I do not know the songs you featured because I do not listen to those artists, if not I would have appreciated them more, but it was still fun to see why you chose the books, and it was very nice of you to include the lyrics, that way we can connect it better with the books.
I do have Divine Rivals, so I am intrigued about Hozier’s song.
Hozier is amazing and I would highly recommend checking out the album but of course, I am very biased haha. If you check any of them out though, I hope you enjoy! Happy listening 🙂
This is a fun tag! I didn’t know that Hozier song, but I LOVED Divine Rivals so now I need to check out this song 🙂 (Also, my Spotify wrapped definitely also included Taylor, Ariana and Sabrina 🙂 )
Hozier’s whole album is fanfreakingtastic and if you like his songs, I would defo recommend checking it out! We gotta love the pop girlies 😍 It was a fantastic year for them all around!

We don’t have similar tastes but I love that you included the lyrics! Thanks for doing the tag

My taste in music is so different, but I really enjoyed reading this! Haven’t read a Holly Bourne book in ages, might add this one to my tbr!
