🎄 Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!!! 🎄

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I feel like I’ve been reading a lot but I’ve started more books than I’ve finished. Since last week I’ve managed to finish 4 books.

Big Nick Energy (Season of Revenge #4) by Elizabeth Morgan ★★★★☆
I think I expected this to be much smuttier considering its popularity but I was so pleasantly surprised by the emotional depth. This was an incredibly heartwarming, feel-good festive romance that did get a little kinky but stayed predominantly sweet. Nick defo brought the best energy! 😍

Only Santas in the Building (Under the Mistletoe Collection #5) by Alexis Daria ★★★☆☆
This was a fun holiday romance but it didn’t particularly stand out. I do like a simp MMC though and Theo fit that bill—the man was gone over our FMC and we loved to see it! I could’ve done with more emotional depth but it wasn’t bad for a short story/novella!

Black Water Sister by Zen Cho ★★★★½
This was a step outside of my comfort zone but I enjoyed it so much! I thought Jess was a complex yet likeable MC and her experiences were so relatable. Penang really came to life through Cho’s writing and so did the gods and ghosts!

Angel in A Devil’s Arms (The Palace of Rogues #2) by Julie Anne Long ★★★★☆
Lucien and Angelique were a great couple and had awesome chemistry. The found family is still my favourite aspect of this historical romance though! I love everyone in The Grand Palace on the Thames. 😍

I still kind of have multiple reads “on hold” in the background that I keep going back and forth to but I’m mostly reading these two at the minute!

Only Mostly Devastated ⇢ 50%

I think I could’ve finished this in one sitting if it wasn’t my morning commute read. That said, I’m enjoying it more than I expected since I’ve struggled a bit with YA contemporary this year. Ollie is a good egg who only deserves the best!

How My Neighbour Stole Christmas ⇢ 6%

I’m feeling very conflicted. I know what MQ’s stories are like—her characters, their interactions, and the shenanigans tend to be OTT and fall on the immature side. That said, I’m finding it particularly hard to like the FMC, Storee. She’s immature, selfish, insufferable. I’ve read more mature 18yos than she is at close to 30 and it’s just not working for me. I might try reading on a bit more but I think I might DNF this for now. ☹️

I’m starting to feel more of the festive mood so I’m keen to read more books set around the holiday season! ❄️

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. I often struggle with Meghan Quinn books. Some I cannot get through and some are great. As for your other current read, I really enjoyed Only Mostly Devastated when I read that one. I hope you continue to like it, too.

    Happy Holidays!

    • Y’know, MQ’s books usually work for me but I always know to expect slightly ridiculous things when I pick them up. Maybe it’s been too long since I’ve read anything by her (or maybe I’m growing out of her books or it was just *this* one in particular) but I’m a bit bummed this didn’t work for me cos I was looking forward to reading a holiday romance. I’m happy to say I’m still enjoying Only Mostly Devastated—it’s great! Hope you had a Merry Christmas yesterday and are enjoying the holidays 🙂

  2. Glad to hear you are enjoying Only Mostly Devastated. With YA, there came this point where the authors all seemed to be trying to lecture me. I still enjoy older YA but not so much the newer stuff. Yeah for taking a chance outside your comfort zone and it paying off.

    • I haven’t put much thought into what hasn’t been working for me with YA contemporary lately but maybe that’s part of it? I’m not feeling that with this book though and I quite like the characters, not to mention the teenage angst isn’t too much, lol. 😆
