#WWWWednesday: 13 November 2024

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

It has been a low and slow week for reading and since last Wednesday I only managed to read two books and thankfully, both were very enjoyable!

Rookie Mistake (Orleans University #3.5) by Maren Moore → ★★★½

Moore describes this as “high spice, low plot, and lots of fun”, which is spot on for this college romance novella. Zara and Davis had great chemistry and I enjoyed their banter and moments of getting to know each other. This was a fun and sexy time and a great addition to her college sports romance series!

Starling House by Alix E. Harrow → ★★★★★

Did I just find another 5-star read? YES! I buddy read this with Leslie and Julie and all of us ended up being totally creeped out by it but also loving it. Read this if you love gorgeous writing, nuanced characters, and delightfully chilling Southern Gothic vibes.

I’ve started a couple of reads over the last week that I enjoyed while reading but for some reason have not finished reading. My mood has just been too all over the place and I don’t know what it needs to be satisfied, lol. I’m “currently reading” How to Become the Dark Lord and I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. I’m not sure if I love it but I don’t hate it, but also, a lot of it makes me cringe because it’s so OTT! 🤣

It’s whatever the mood brings!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever you’re currently reading, friends!

    • Haha, I do appreciate the honesty and that the book isn’t trying to be anything that it’s not 🤣 I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Whisky Business. Is the follow up out already? The family seem like a fun bunch and I’m keen to keep going with it (not really sure why I stopped, dang mood! Lol). I also thought that The Situationship was kind of like a prequel to an already existing couple’s romance but did I get that wrong?

      • The follow up is not out yet. I know the ARC is on NG (I am downloading for sure). I liked the family and want to get to know them all better. The couple in the Situationship were in Jimenez’s last book. It’s that book bestie and a character from Part of Your World.

        • Ooh, so much Jimenez backstory that I’m missing. This is where I ask myself WHY I still haven’t read any of her full-length novels 🫣 I really gotta remedy that so I guess I’ll take The Situationship off my immediate possibility pile and save it for when I finally pick up a Jimenez romance! Soon… Soon…

  1. Yay, I’m so glad we loved our buddy read!! It was so good and I’m glad it didn’t creep me out too much. It’s what I was most scared of because I’m such a chicken. haha. I hope you have a wonderful week, my friend! ❤

  2. I’m so happy you loved Starling House, and glad it didn’t end up getting too creepy for you lol. I’ve heard good things about How to Become the Dark Lord, so I hope you love it ( and you reminded me yet again that I need to pick it up.) I hope you have a great reading week 🙂

    • It *did* get creepy and I made it a day time only read for much of the book but ah, once things really started kicking off I couldn’t stop myself from reading well into the evenings! How to Become the Dark Lord is definitely interesting. It’s very OTT and I guess if you like those silly, doesn’t take itself too seriously fantasies with heavy doses of humour and an abundance of pop references, you’re more likely to enjoy this! 😂 I feel like impending death is always just around the corner for our protagonist and it’s making me super anxious, haha. I hope you have a great reading week too!

    • Totally get that feeling! It’s well worth the prioritization but ah, always so many books and so little time! It is great that it’s a standalone though so it’s a one and done commitment 😂 I hope you enjoy it whenever you get around to it and have a great week as well!

  3. I’m definitely adding The Letters We Keep and The Woods to my TBR! 😄

Currently, I’m in the middle of Six Wakes, but I’m not that into it so my mood might make me change things up and pick up something else…we’ll see 😂

    • Ooh, I hope you enjoy them if you pick them up! And I totally relate to mood changes and mood reading (as is probably obvious from this post where I’ve got five ongoing reads, haha) 🤣 Whatever you do end up reading, I hope you enjoy them and have a great week!

    • Maren Moore’s books are super fun but I would say that if you’re not into spice, these might not be the books for you. 🤣 She tends to do high spice and while there’s some depth in the character arcs and their relationships, I do find her books to just mostly be good fun time breezy reads and that’s why I would recommend them, lol. She does have a great series of holiday novellas which are good for getting a small taste of her writing and I would also recommend those!

      • I am not the biggest spice fan. I can take a bit of it, but I am more into the characters and their interactions. I didn’t know that. I like fun breezy reads but if there’s a lot of spice, it might not be for me. Thanks for letting me know!

  4. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on How To Become the Darklord and Die Trying. I ended up DNFing both the physical and audiobook after 2 chapters 🙈
