#TopTenTuesday: Books That Provide a Much-Needed Escape

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books That Provide a Much-Needed Escape (bonus points if you tell us why!)

I’m sure many of you can relate but reading is my escape from reality. Whether it’s because I’m stressed out, feeling anxious or depressed, need a distraction or simply want an escapist romp, 90% of the time I turn to books to take me away! Not gonna lie, most of the time it’s because I’m stressed and depressed, but the following 10 books provided the welcome escape I badly needed at the time of reading.

A Rival Most Vial
The Exception to the Rule
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries
A Festive Feud
Truly Devious

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea
The Six Deaths of the Saint
The Devil You Know
Malice
A Psalm for the Wild-Built

Do you read to escape? Are there specific types of books you read that work best for that escapism?

  1. I totally feel you on using reading as an escape! I tend to turn to lighter reading when I’m upset about something and need a reading escape. Recent ones I enjoyed are DUNGEONS AND DRAMA by Kristy Boyce and NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG by Julie Soto.

  2. What a varied list! Escapism is 100% my favourite thing about reading, so love this as a concept. I’ve only read Malice from the above list (which is fantastic – nothing like a great fantasy series to lose yourself in) but some of the others look brilliant too, thanks for sharing!

  3. Yes to so many of these! Emily Wilde and the Girl who Fell Beneath the Sea are both brilliant and I adored The Six Deaths of the Saint, but then I’m a sucker for anything Harrow writes… great picks, Dini 🙂
