Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

Since last week, I’ve finished 3 books and DNF one. I’m thinking the DNF is just for now and I’ll pick it back up again eventually but let’s see! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Such Charming Liars, Dust Storm, Downpour

Such Charming Liars by Karen M. McManus ★★★½
This was another enjoyable Karen McManus YA mystery. Kat and Liam made such a great team and the fast-paced action had me eagerly turning the pages and some of those twists really surprised me! Check out my review.

Dust Storm (The Griffith Brothers #1) by Maggie Gates ★★★½
I can see why readers could love/hate this book but I fell just on the upper side of the middle on this. Cass was a really interesting FMC because she’s incredibly unlikeable and yet at the same time, I admired how she’s unapologetically herself throughout the story. And that the Christian and his family accept and love her sardonic self as she is. Lots to enjoy in this but also elements that I wish had given more emotional depth. I might be in my cowboy romance era now… 👀

Downpour (The Griffith Brothers #2) by Maggie Gates
I love a good grumpy sunshine dynamic but these two felt a little too forced and their characters too one-dimensional. I liked that this had disability rep as our MMC is paraplegic and I don’t think I’ve read a steamy adult romance with this representation before. I can’t speak to the accuracy or sensitivity and haven’t seen mentions in reviews either.

I’ve been in a bit of a funky reading mood lately. The only reads that seem to stick are easy-to-devour romances that require little thought and not much else. I’m usually easily distractable but my insomnia has been kicking my ass lately and it’s made it even worse… It hasn’t been great (I also really want to sleep, lol)! 🤣

The Girl With No Reflection ⇢ 18%

I gotta be honest here… I already don’t feel like picking this up again. 🫣 I’m disappointed to say it hasn’t been a great first impression but perhaps I need to pick it up on a quiet day so I’ll probably give this another go at the weekend.

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn ⇢ 11%

I picked this up on a whim on the train to work this morning and it seems to have my attention right now! I’ve wanted to read this for a while so I’m hoping it sticks.

When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain ⇢ 76%

My brain keeps telling me I want to read this in one sitting but I haven’t had the time so I’ve made zero progress. At the weekend maybe?

My mood has been funky lately so other than the ARCs, let’s see!

  1. I dnfed The Girl with No Reflection. I couldn’t get into it and it felt like there was just too much going on! I hope you enjoy your other reads!

    • Ooh, did you!? 😂 I’m… Lowkey kind of tempted to do the same… I’m gonna give it one more chance this weekend and I’ll start it from the beginning again. I’m so sad that these books with amazing premises keeping falling short this year! 😭 I hope you enjoy your other reads too though, Joanna!

  3. I’m so sorry you’re not enjoying The Girl With No Reflection! I haven’t read it but I was definitely curious about it. What about it isn’t working for you?

    Curious about This Place is Still Beautiful — it’s my first time seeing it but I loveee the cover. They Hate Each Other sounds so cute too. Happy reading! ❤

    • This is something I’ve been trying to pinpoint myself and I still can’t figure it out 100%. The writing reads very young end YA (which is not what I was expecting), the romance is giving insta-vibes and the FMC’s naivete and incredibly poor decision-making is starting to get to me, lol. Girl is not using her head! 😂

    • Yeah… I was really disappointed! I’m soft DNFing it for now because I don’t know if it’s just my headspace that’s making me overly critical and nitpicky but I’m gonna give it one more try maybe later and see if I feel differently. The premise is just so good but the writing is not matching up (imho). I’ve still seen a lot of people enjoy it though so I hope that if you pick it up, you will be one of them, hehe! 😃
