We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books I Had VERY Strong Emotions About (Any emotion! Did a book make you super happy or sad? Angry? Terrified? Surprised?)
I’m quite an emotional reader and so it usually doesn’t take much to get a reaction out of me. The most easy to trigger emotional reaction for me is sadness and I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I cry pretty easily when I feel connected to a book—whether that’s because of the characters, plot, etc. What can I say? I’m an emotional panda. 🐼 And honestly, I love it when a book can make me cry cos that means I was really invested!
So today, I’m sharing ten reads that made me ugly cry, starting from the most recent!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot
Kindling
Open Water
Delicates

Letters of Enchantment Series
More Happy Than Not
The Poppy War Series
The Dead Romantics
Seven Percent of Ro Devereux

Do you easily get emotional while reading? What books have elicited the ugly cry emotion from you (if any)?

I cry easily too. I try not to read sad books as if I cry too much I get a headache 😂 ridiculous I know!
Have a great week!

Haha, fair enough! I also don’t seek out sad books too much but when I do, it feels so good to let the emotions out. It’s a very cathartic experience 😂

I don’t get that feeling. It’s a nightmare for me 😂 maybe because I cry at the drop of a hat so there isn’t enough water left 😂

More Happy Than Not and The Dragon Republic left me DEVASTATED. So, I’m glad to see them pop up on your list, too. lol. I almost included Addie LaRue in mine, but it didn’t quite make the cut because I tried to have at least some books that didn’t totally ruin me so that there’d be a range of emotions represented.

DEVASTATED!!! Absolutely WRECKED me! TORE ME UP! 😂😭 Gosh, I love a book that can do that to me but also, haha, good to have the balance. I liked your list! 😃

I haven’t read an ugly cry book in a long time, but they can be so cathartic!

I didn’t think it could get more sad than Sheets but I was wrong. I loved it more though!

I think I found myslf getting more emotional in Divine Rivals than Ruthless Vows but that doesn’t mean I didn’t absolutely BAWL at certain parts of the second book. SO heartbreaking!

I think it’s nice that good books can easily make you cry. I cry a lot at the tv or movies but hardly ever at books (I don’t know why). Delicates looks interesting is that the second in a series? & I’m curious about the Seven Percent of Ro Devereaux, don’t know anything about it but the cover is intriguing! I loved Addie LaRue as well 😀

I cry a lot at everything, even shows and movies when I watch them, so I guess it tracks that I also get super emo about books! 😂 Delicates is the second in a graphic novel series and while it technically *can* be read first, I would recommend checking out Sheets (book 1). It’s a heartbreaking but also healing story that’s wonderfully written. Ro Devereaux was a YA contemporary debut last year and it was SO good! One of my few 5-star reads in 2023. Would highly rec 🙂

It’s super cute! It’s not as cutesy as the covers make them out to be but they’re such wonderful stories 💜

Lenni and Margot is a book I always recommend when people are looking for a book to make them ugly cry. I also warn them to have a box of issues nearby.

I think it’s one that I will start recommending too since I only read it this year. But it was so good 😍 Wonderfully emotional!

Lenni and Margot was such an interesting experience. I was sad because, you know, terminally ill people, but I was so happy that they had that friendship and that Margot got her second chance at love. It was a beautiful story.

Yeah, I do agree with you. It made me bawl because it was so sad but there was also hope and again, that second chance at love which was so wonderful. Despite the sadness, there was enough that felt like a soothing balm that I think balanced out the story wonderfully 🙂

I’m an emotional reader too. I don’t see it as a bad thing either; definitely better to feel things about a book than to not have that connection.

I also don’t think it’s bad to be an emotional reader. I totally agree it’s better to feel things for a book. I feel like it allows me to connect to so many more stories too! 😍
