Let’s Talk Bookish: Picking My Blog Name

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits, and it’s where we get to discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each other’s posts! Check out the May 2024 Topics if you want to join in the bookish discussion fun.

This week’s topic is actually a Freebie so I’m doing the topic from two weeks ago:

How did you pick your blog’s name?

[Suggested by: Alli @ Alli the Book Giraffe]
Prompts: How did you pick your book blog’s name? Have you ever changed it? Have you ever thought about changing it? What are some of your favourite book blog names?

I’ve been trying to get back into the habit of writing these discussion posts but it’s been a struggle since I fell out of it a few months ago. So this is my baby-step attempt at writing something, lol.

How did you pick your book blog’s name?

I wrote about this in the “About Me” section of my blog and it’s still valid. For me, one of the first parts of starting something new is coming up with a good name for it—whether it’s projects, blogs, account names, whatever. I’m just not very creative and I second-guess myself all the time. I wish I had more brainpower 😂 So when it came to naming this blog, despite wanting something real flash and original, I ended up taking my IRL name + my favourite/spirit animal + reads (because duh) and that boring little story is how dinipandareads came to life! 🤭

Have you ever changed it? Have you ever thought about changing it?

I’ve never changed my blog name but I have thought about it and initially, quite a bit! This was still in the “baby stages” of my blog’s life and I was so tempted to follow through but again, we go back to me being horrible at coming up with cool bookish names, so I never ended up doing it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Would I still do it now? I don’t know. I think while dinipandareads might not be the most memorable or fun blog name, it’s me in every sense and since I’ve “established” myself with that title over the last 5-ish years, I think I’m happy to stick with it. Maybe one day if I end up doing a total blog revamp/overhaul, I’d try to come up with something new but I think that’s still light years away!

What are some of your favourite book blog names?

Ooh, tough question. There have been a few that made me go “ooh” when I first came across them and this list is in no particular order nor is it exhaustive (honestly, I just went to my WordPress reader feed and scrolled through the blogs I’ve subscribed to, but I do love these names). But I do love how bookish they are and how some also twist titles/names/lines they love into something uniquely bookish!

How did you pick your blog name? Do you find it easy to come up with names or do you struggle like I do? Would you ever change your blog name?

  1. When I started my blog I was thinking about how practically every book I read had someone die in it, even the so-called fun ones! I do sometimes wish I’d gone with something else because I think I get mistaken for a crime fiction blog sometimes, but like you said, after a while it becomes your online identity, and it makes it hard to change.

  2. What a fun topic! Sometimes simple is best, and like you said your identity is clearly woven into the name. It’s most likely not something another person might randomly come up with and that alone makes it stand out. Also it’s hella cute and makes me smile so there’s that 😊

If you’re having trouble with discussion posts, maybe you can try dictating some aloud instead of typing! I love doing that when I’m trying to get a more conversational tone with something, and then it’s easy to just talk and talk and talk like you might with a friend and edit it down so you have more a concise final post if that’s what you need. Fun fact, I am also voice dictating this message which is why it is so long! ❤️

  3. I really like the name of your blog! It seems to fit you and your style. I enjoy reading your posts everyday! I changed my name once, very early on, but now I don’t think I would change it. Very interesting post.

  4. Ohh, this is such a fun topic!! Blog names are so fun. I struggled for sooo long with mine. I was actually REALLY into Orange is the New Black when I started up my blog. I randomly thought… why don’t I just change Orange to Books?! hahaha. Idk how original that is. I’ve thought about changing it sooo many times. I just have everything so entrenched that it would be more work than it’s worth!! I’m so honored that I made your list thought. ❤ Also, I absolutely adore your blog name! It’s so you and very memorable. Don’t ever change it!

  5. This is such an interesting topic and thank you for mentioning me! I think your blog name is super cute and memorable- I feel it’s easy to remember your name AND the blog name because of the panda xD For me the name was never a question lol I made this blog when I was deeply obsessed with Supernatural and PJO (book 3 specifically), hence the “huntress” part xD

  6. That’s such a good topic! I wanted my blog to be a cozy space. I wanted it to be a virtual living room where we talk bookish, haha. So I came up with my name + literary + lobby which then became Linda’s Literary Lobby. I like that it’s an alliteration. 😀

  7. I think I went through 5 blog names in the past 12ish years of blogging. 😂 I’m definitely not creative with these kinds of things. For my blog rebirth this year, I contemplated SO LONG on whether I wanted a generic-sounding name but with my first name on it (for branding purposes lol) or if I wanted something sophisticated and fancy (where I would be unique), but sophisticated is far from what I am IRL, so I went with the former. 😂 I love your blog name though! It’s fun and youthful and has an air of softness to it. 😊

  8. I love your blog name, Dini! I agree it feels very you and adds such great personality to an already wonderful blog. As long as you love it, that’s what matters most! (And thank you so much for sharing my blog and it’s title, I’m glad you love it ((it took me ages to settle on 😅)).

  9. I don’t know. I like your blog name and like you say, it is very much so you. And I think that is also important. While I do like mine also, it is a bit more removed from me as a person. I’m certainly not a dancer haha.
