Let’s Talk Bookish: Do You Ever Dream About Books?

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits, and it’s where we get to discuss certain topics, share our opinions, and spread the love by visiting each other’s posts! This week’s topic is actually a Freebie so I’m doing last week’s topic and answering:

Do you ever dream about books?

Prompts: Do you ever dream about books? Which fictional characters have appeared in your dreams? Have you ever had book-related nightmares? Or do you have happier bookish dreams?

Do you ever dream about books? Which fictional characters have appeared in your dreams?

What a fun topic! Sadly, my answer is gonna be pretty boring and short because as far as I can recall, I’ve never dreamt about books or had a dream about being in a book. It’s kind of ironic considering how big a role books play in my life but maybe it’s also because of that that I don’t dream about them?

No fictional characters have also appeared in my dreams, although that would be quite a treat depending on the book and character, I think! But as my sleeping habits have gotten increasingly poorer over the past five years, I’ve found that I remember having fewer dreams and what dreams I do have, I can only recall in small patches.

So perhaps I have dreamt about books or about being in a book, I simply can’t remember them by the time I wake up struggling and disoriented! 🙃

Have you ever had book-related nightmares? Or do you have happier bookish dreams?

I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’ve had a book-related nightmare or happy book dreams. Generally speaking, the dreams I remember are always of the not-so-happy variety and involve a lot of running, falling, and seeking but always struggling to reach what’s just beyond my grasp, lol. But I digress!

I have occasionally noticed that when I’m reading something that evokes strong feelings or is very atmospheric or is described in vivid detail, I will sometimes find my dreams being influenced by it. For example, if I’m reading a book with a gothic atmosphere that evokes a sense of unease, my dreams will have that same vibe and I’ll wake up the next morning feeling disquieted and restless. I might not remember what exactly I dreamed about but I will remember the feeling it leaves and sometimes it does match whatever I’m reading.

As an emotional reader, I feel like this makes sense because I easily carry those feelings with me. Plus, I mostly read before bed so even if what I felt while reading the book isn’t at the forefront of my consciousness, it could just be lurking beneath the surface. Ooh, that sounds creepy, doesn’t it? 😂

Do you ever dream about books and have any characters visited you in your dreams? Do you tend to have happier or scarier dreams?

  1. I also never seem to remember my dreams. I only know that maybe I had one because I’ve woken up more disorientated than normal. So, I really relate to a lot of what you’ve said.

  2. I don’t dream, or I don’t remember any dreams. I think I have had those moments while reading where I wished I could be in a place with the characters, but no dreams per se. It’s interesting that your dreams have been influenced.

    • I know some people who never remember their dreams and I’m remembering less of them now, too. I also have those moments when reading a book I love that I wish I could be there with them that moment. How cool would it be to think it and then dream it 😍

  3. I dream a lot and when I wake up, I remember some of my dreams for about five minutes, then forget. I remember how I felt though. I think my answer is similar to yours, Dini. I don’t think I have dreamt about a book per se, but I have dreamt about settings and plots. So for example, I read a book set on a ship, and I might dream about being on a cruise. My dreams are usually mashups, so I might start on a cruise as an adult, then I’m at school, then doing something weird, but as I say, I forget them by the end of the day when I try to tell someone about them.

    • It’s interesting how brains and dreams work, isn’t it? The dreams I remember are usually mashups too but it’s so rare these days! It’s always nice to remember them, only if they don’t leave me feeling unsettled though that happens more often than not now, lol 😂
